In his column today, Michael Riedel predicts Hugh will host this year's Tonys (hope so!). Since they're friends, I'm wondering if this is more than a prediction.

Oh, I hope your hunch about "more than a prediction" is right, Ellen! Alma

That would be great news!! I hope you're right, Ellen. Have you seen or heard anything about Houdini? Maybe it's farther along. ;D

No, nothing more on HOUDINI yet. It's more usual for one to host when he or she is not involved in the current season, anyway. I think it won't materialize until at least towards the end of the 2013-2014 season.

Ellen, I was really hoping for it at the end of the 2013, but my impression is that it's nowhere near ready Am I correct? Also, didn't know where to put this, but I will be coming to Australia in March and I was wondering if anyone on the board was from there? If you are, could you PM me? Thanks > >

Yes, my understanding is that only the first act is in decent shape; they still are working on the second act.
Hope you have a great time in Australia, Jackie.

I wonder if Hugh has already been asked and his reply is "Maybe?"
It's been a while since he hosted -- June 2005! My first and only TONYs ;D
Maybe he is laying the groundwork for some goodwill for the forthcoming Houdini ... or Hugh is just too gracious to say NO ;D

Someone at the Broadwayworld.com message board says it's an "open secret" that Hugh will indeed host this year. I don't know that poster's source--and it would be wonderful if it were true--but I'm doubtful.

The Daily News reports today that the aging man-child Neil Patrick Harris is back again. I'm rather tired of him. If Hugh can't do it because of film commitments or whatever, let Nathan Lane return; or even Tom Hanks, who's this year's King of Broadway.

Sorry, but I have never been a fan of NPH -- too self-indulgent for my taste. It looks like getting awards events hosts is becoming more and more difficult ( and not just for the TONYs).

It's official on Broadway World and Tony twitter sites. NPH is going for # 4, first @ RCMH So disappointing

Yes, it irks me, too, that he's breaking Hugh's record of three Tonys solo-hosting gigs. I do wonder, though, if Hugh was asked and turned it down, as he has done in past years for various reasons, whether a film commitment or whatever.

Got home in time to see that segment. Yep, Harris must have known for a while because he did mention the Tonys hosting. Ellen DeG certainly made her preferences known. She told him he's "the best at it." I hope she never saw Hugh's turns as host, then. She also said Harris was making his "11th or 12th" appearance on her show. Hugh's been on, what--two or maybe three times at mist? Naughty Ellen. Ellen (the non-naughty one)

Wow Ellen, sad to hear the naughty Ellen is so biased and playing favorites! So... smiley-taunt002 to her! I think Annette is right that Hugh was most likely asked to do it but couldn't. Wonder what EdeG would think of her pet being second choice...probably every time he hosted too!!! Fortunately, I think Hugh knows that he's the number one choice for many, many people! :-/ Actually, he probably doesn't give it much thought since he's so much more grounded than the rest of us mortals! Apparently NPH is not only hosting the Tony Awards but, according to Playbill today he's also now going to host the Emmy's: www.playbill.com/news/article/178483-Neil-Patrick-Harris-Will-Host-2013-Primetime-Emmy-AwardsI guess he's now Mr Host! I don't really watch the Emmy's anymore but I don't see him as the next Bob Hope or Johnny Carson and definitely NOT Hugh Jackman so I don't get why he gets all these gigs. Actually, I think it's more appropriate for him to host the Emmy's than the Tony's since he's spent most of his career on TV! Sue

It's not coincidental that since both the Tonys and the Emmys are on CBS, that network wants one of its stars front and center. The Emmys will take place right around the time HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER begins its much-publicized final season. I think that's a major factor in his selection.

I have just found out that we are going to get a LIVE airing of the TONYs ( early Monday morning here - we are 12 hours ahead of ET) -- if Hugh is presenting, I might watch it in full.
