I've seen a lot of Neil over the years and while I like him and I own the Dr Horrible DVD, I don't think he has the talent to sustain a show like TBFO and he's not a dancer. Sure people can be taught steps, but I don't think he has natural talent in that area and to me he always looks awkward when he dances. I also don't think he's very versatile as a singer and I'm not sure how much vocal training he's had. I think he's made the most of the talent he has and he's got the charm and charisma and I know he has done some theater so maybe he'd be better than I think. If anyone has seen him in a full musical role on stage they may have a different view and I'd love to hear another opinion. Music Man might work, I'd don't think it's as demanding a role as TBFO. He has the right look and the cheekiness for Peter, but I can't see him in that show except maybe as a TV special. Sue
I saw NPH portray the dual role of "The Balladeer" and "Lee Harvey Oswald" in Stephen Sondheim's incredible show " ASSASSINS" back in 2004, and I thought NPH was very good... youtu.be/a5QjBrcjUJEWhen NPH >changed< from being "The Balladeer" into "Lee Harvey Oswald," I found it rather spooky/eerie to see how much NPH resembled Lee Harvey... youtu.be/z8p82NQuPXYI admit that I am not a reviewer like a lot of you here. I do not think that of out of ALL of the shows I have seen, I have never given a truly "BAD" review... I think the "harshest" review I ever gave a show was the Elvis Presley jukebox musical " All Shook Up" was that "'It was a fun show, but would I see it again? Probably not.'" I wanted to see this show " ASSASSINS" because I LOVE reading about Presidential assassinations and/or attempts... I found it rather sad that I learned MORE about American History during this 90-minute, non-stop musical than I did in 5 years of American history while in school...

There was also the touch of irony in the very funny number later about Broadway stars being "cancelled" . The same people taking shots at the film would be among the most devastated if their TV series or movie were shot out from under them.

That number was supposed to have been written by John LaChiusa , the same composer who put together the Hugh Jackman medley which he sang at:
*In Time - at WynnLasVegas *2005 Tonys *Back on Broadway.

Jo The number itself was very good, and choreographing all those performers from all those shows was spectacular. If the Les Mis movie dig had been removed it would have been one of my favorite Tony opening numbers... Sue

I have listened to a few of his performances as preserved by YouTube. He does bear a striking resemblance to LHO...creepy. As I said, I think the Music Man would be a good role for him and the Assassins clips verify that for me. I just question his stamina and dancing for something like TBFO. I don't know how physical the role in Assassins was. From everything I've read it seems that he's only done short 3-4 month stints in musicals thus far. I guess I think of him as a TV personality who does some theater and movies, not as a Broadway star or a movie star. Sue

Not really meaning to belabor the point, but I came across this earlier article while looking for something about him and Aaron Tveit ( there is a new thread on BWW which is not very positive about Aaron's acting talent and someone even speculates that it must have been Hooper who was dissatisfied with his performance - something belied by another poster because the reference was to a show, not to a movie)...instead I found this article where Tom explains further how he conceived and utilized the live singing concept. I didn't know that he even consulted Baz Luhrmann ( who is conceded to have given movie musicals a new life, with his Moulin Rouge) re the format that he wanted to use in Les Miserables. www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/9796056/Tom-Hooper-on-Les-Miserables-some-songs-took-21-takes.html

As for Baz...I certainly never equate him to reviving movie musicals. I've never been able to get through ML, and I've tried several times. Just don't like it. After the butcher job Baz did with editing Australia, when I first read in an article that Tom talked to him I cringed that he might take advice from him that would make Les Miserable a disaster. Thankfully it wasn't. Sue

Off the top of my head (I'm at work; can't check and I may even have deleted those parts of the ceremony from my DVR already): "Magic to Do," Steven Pasquale, my guess: Sardi's?(can't remember, but it's right across street from the Broadhurst); Jon Cryer, True Colors, have crazy women in them, Empire State of Mind, alligator shoes, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Audra McDonald/Zachary Quinto.
Good luck.
