The image of Hugh with tears in his eyes ( The Fountain, A Steady Rain, Les Miserables, etc) is always moving and poignant!

There's a scene on the dock in Australia when he first sees "Mrs Boss" and grabs her and sobs with "You're Alive" and his face just breaks that has that same quality. He is such a fine actor that it is wonderful everyone finally seems to be catching up to just how good he is.

A little OT - but not really

The past Sunday was the German Grand Prix. The race was won by a German racer who is also the current three-time world champion, second place was by a Finn racer who has won a championship with Ferrari ( and is arguably the fan favorite for sometime now) and podium third was for a French racer. A post-racing press conference was held, as usual. This is the last question posed --

Q: (Jan Kotulla – Mannheimer Morgen) And to all of you, have you see the movie Rush and what's your opinion about the movie?

SV: I haven't seen it. I went to bed, so sorry Niki (Jo's note: Niki is Niki Lauda who is portrayed in the movie as one of the co-leads whose racing accident became legendary), he was very kind and invited me. I thought it was smarter to go to bed. So I have to wait.

RG: I needed to sleep too so I went to bed as well.

KR: No.

Well, not even the top racers were keen to see the special advance screening ...LOL-ed at Kimi Raikkonen's ( the Finn racing favorite) categorical and abrupt NO! Kimi is quite a character and that kind of a reply was not unexpected

Maybe they would have preferred watching "Prisoners" - LOL!

Well, somebody must have blinked -- because the RUSH release has been moved back another week ( to September 27)!! PRISONERS stays in its original release schedule of Friday, September 20, 2013!

The movie RUSH has been finished - I reported on the post before this that a special screening for the Formula One key community has been arranged by Niki Lauda ( portrayed in the movie by Daniel Bruhl as one of the two leads) in the last Grand Prix ( the other Sunday). I wonder what the reception of the screening was - although it seems the drivers may have put priority to resting for the following afternoon race than watching the movie?

I hope PRISONERS gets solid marketing support from film distributor WARNER BROS.

Hugh ( and his co-stars) will be busy on the promotion trail most likely in early September?

The movie will have its USA/World Premiere in Toronto. No screening schedule yet, but will Hugh and Jake and the rest of its powerful cast be there ?

Warner Bros is zipping from Venice opening night film to Toronto with the George Clooney/ Sandra Bullock Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuaron, and also have Hugh Jackman’s thriller Prisoners from Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, the latter probably being the reason it’s included.

The TIFF showing of PRISONERS will help launch the publicity campaign for the movie ( due in the USA on September 20).

I am curious if Hugh will be there. He should be done with DOFP and will start his Prisoners promotion in September so this is as a good place as any. An early good word from respected festivals is good

And how great timing it was for Hugh to get the Oscar nomination...what a cast (I love Maria Bello!)

Will the Toronto selection go to Telluride?

I've been trying to figure out how Warner Bros. may or may not handle Telluride in 2013. Last year they took "Argo" there as a sneak preview and it blew the roof off the Chuck Jones Cinema. Then, as we all know, it went on to be a dominant force in the awards season and pick up the Oscar for Best Picture. The year before, however, they dodged it, taking "Contagion" to Venice, "J. Edgar" to AFI Fest and banking on latter-year release "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." So you never can tell.

This year the studio has already set Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" as the Venice opening night selection. The film is then going on to Toronto alongside Denis Villeneuve's "Prisoners" (which could end up being an unexpected awards play), so there's a small chance one or the other could go to Telluride. There's no word yet on the roll-out for Spike Jonze's "Her, though the recently wrapped "The Good Lie" from "Monsieur Lazhar" director Philippe Falardeau and starring Reese Witherspoon and Corey Stoll (with shades of "The Blind Side") could go to Telluride and end up figuring into the race.

We'll know all the answers soon enough, but in the meantime, I must say I'm very intrigued by Villeneuve's film. I've been hearing stellar things for a while now and the trailer sold me on it potentially being a touch more than merely commercial. A new poster was released today. Check it out below.

Hope this really pans out as an awards candidate, including another nod for Hugh!

Btw, Telluride happens before TIFF ( Aug 29 to Sept 2 this year)! Hope PRISONERS is the one that makes it there, instead of GRAVITY. Telluride is a famous film festival up on a mountain town in Colorado. If PRISONERS can draw unexpected attention at Telluride, it can make an ever bigger splash at Toronto as a serious awards contender!

The premiere here is on 10th October which is an improvement from the original December date (I was decided to go to Germany to see it). I hope it will do well because our distribution companies have a bad habit to cancel premieres when the movie does not do well financially (so it, sadly, removed from here The World´s End for which I have been waiting for since last year but didn´t stop Twilight and similar crap to get here...)

I love how is Hugh in many of my Top 5 actors and actresses in movies lately (Maria Bello has been my favourite since I was 15 ).

There is some hard hitting drama heading our way this autumn and one of the films to watch out for is Prisoners.

The movie sees Hugh Jackman return to a gritty role after his block buster exploits of the summer as he teams up with Jake Gyllenhaal for the first time.

Jackman takes on the role of a father whose young daughter has been kidnapped while Gyllanhaal plays the detective on the case.

Denis Villeneuve is in the director's chair for the first time since Incendies back in 2011.

As if Jackman and Gyllenhaal are not enough to get excited about there is a fantastic cast that has been assembled around them.

Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano are all also on board.

We are huge fans of Hugh Jackman here at FemaleFirst and it is great to see him back with a role that he can really get his teeth into.

Prisoners looks set to be one of the dramas not to miss this autumn... could it be an awards contender? We will have to wait and see.

Prisoners is released 4th October.
