The movie The Wolverine was supposed to have started filming in the fall of 2011. Hugh talked about it in San Francisco. But more delays occurred ( the film project was initially affected by several delays starting with the dropping out by Darren Aronofsky, the tsunami problem in Japan, the search for a new director, the inputs worked into the project by new director James Mangold, etc) ...by that time, Hugh had already been committed to Les Miserables ( which also hoped to make the Oscar season the same year they completed filming).
I guess a rearrangement of his schedule was worked out between Universal/Working Title and Fox for the early 2012 filming start of Les Miserables. In the meantime, for the rest of 2011, Hugh was able to secure a Shubert theatre for his one-man show - and unexpectedly returned to Broadway way ahead than planned ( fall and early winter of 2011). He started Les Miserables rehearsals a few weeks after the one-man show closed -- and rehearsed for about 8-9 weeks. Filming in southern France started around March 8...and continued until the third week of June ( Remember when he completed the last day of filming and he flew right back to NYC to host Tropfest - June 22/23 ?). After losing weight for the early scenes in Les Miserables, he had to regain bulk not only for the scenes as M le Maire/Madeleine but also for the forthcoming The Wolverine filming.
After a break ( I think that was their Bali vacation, maybe around July), they started filming The Wolverine, first in Sydney, then followed by a few weeks in Japan, and a return to Sydney afterwards. He completed filming by around late November, just in time for the heavy promotion and London premiere of Les Miserables, followed by advance screenings for the awards community.
If my above recollections are right -- he did have a very hectic time since Back on Broadway opened in NYC in late 2011! Back to back filming for two major movies after a hectic one-man show! The Wolverine must have taken around 4 months or so to film ( maybe August to November 2012?) and is now ready for release in July of this year.
PS: He didn't stop there -- simultaneously with the heavy awards promotion for Les Miserables, he started filming Prisoners in mid-winter of 2013. That one is ready for release in September of this year, too.

A few tender moments from Logan -- I wonder what happened to the mutton chops . Looks great without them I think it's the lighting and the angle. Sue

I was at the movies Saturday to see Monster's University and they had The Wolverine poster up and they were playing the trailer in the lobby. I know it comes out next month but it didn't hit me until then how close that really is! - Alicia Just around the corner!! > Seems like forever since he finished Les Miserables and started working on this but it's actually been just under a year!! That's a pretty fast turn around for a movie like this I think. PS: How did you like Monster's U? It won the weekend box office over World War Z and Man of Steel. I saw MoS with my son & grandson and I hated it...they loved it of course. It was things blowing up non-stop. Sue If you liked Monster's Inc, you'll like it. It's very cute. And G rated which is almost unheard of these days. I wish Hugh would do a Disney cartoon. He's great in animation and with Disney he'd get to sing. But as Jo mapped out; he's one busy man. Maybe one day, though. - Alicia

The movie The Wolverine was supposed to have started filming in the fall of 2011. Hugh talked about it in San Francisco... Thanks, Jo. Obviously I don't keep track of Hugh's comings/goings as well as some around here. I thought he'd filmed Wolverine then Les Mis, and I was trying to reconcile why Les Mis has come and gone while we're still waiting for the Wolvie film to open. I think I've got it straight now. He's a busy, BUSY guy. All the better for us. Can't get enough. Moah! :-/ Moah!!!

It looks like they have now started the marketing of THE WOLVERINE in full gear -- *They have released more of the distintive artwork via posters of all the major characters - maybe 8-9, including one that is more of a sentimental nod to Jean Grey. *The MOST revealing is the release of NOTES made by filmsites invited to an EDIT BAY site visits at FOX in April! There must have been an embargo on this release by filmsites until now ( which seems to coincide now that the marketing hooplah for Man of Steel is starting to phase out). One of the most informative is the report from JoBlo, one of the most prominent among film sites reporting on superhero movies. The article also includes what James Mangold gensrously shared about his cinematic concept for the movie and its execution -- ( SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED) www.joblo.com/movie-news/into-the-editing-room-of-the-wolverine* * * * * * * SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATED********SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS BUT CAN BE TOLERATEDAren't you all excited now ( to quote Eponine) ??!! > Jo

Hugh is on the cover of VANITY FAIR- Italian edition, released July 3. 2013, presumably to help promote The Wolverine. antoniogenna.com/2013/06/26/edicola-vanity-fair-262013-3-luglio-2013-hugh-jackman-ti-annoio-se-telefono-10-volte-al-giorno/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterThe cover story is in Italian - sorry - but the photo is definitely universal in its message But do check out the link further for the brief interview in Italian ( taken at a set visit in Montreal) -- use a translator to make sense of it. One thing that I fully understood is that he may call Deb at least ten times a day! He also said that he keeps three sets of wardrobe - lean, medium, and large (depending on his weight and bulk when filming or at when he is at rest-and-doing-family-things). LOL - I do remember in one account of the cover story for MEN'S FITNESS, that his publicist requested that the wardrobe that Hugh will have to wear for the photoshoot should be snug enough to fit his increased bulk ( including that of his thighs, which had further increased in girth due to training). Jo, that Vanity Fair cover looks familiar. Wasn't that one of the photos used in his People Sexiest Man Alive photo spread? Or maybe it just looks similar...?

It does look like the SMA photo series -- hey, Vanity Fair recognizes that Hugh is still THE Sexiest Man Alive But the release date of this magazine issue is July 3, 2013 according to the cover photo. Jo

They're really amping up the marketing, even here ( or maybe even more so) in Asia! More specifically, here in the Philippines ( even if our culture is more similar to the Western than the Eastern hemisphere, due to past Spanish and American influences).
Today, as I was looking for magazines - the first thing that stared me back was a cover photo of Hugh! It is definitely a new image - very chiselled features and manly, very much the Wolverine but in a very classy way. I have not seen this photo before. It was the cover story for our edition of TV Guide ( size of short bond paper).
*A lot of hoopla about The Wolverine which opens here a day earlier, on July 25!
*A write-up on Hugh
*An announcement that he is being featured on the Biography channel, fairly close to the release date of The Wolverine.
Btw, I have also seen an announcement that one foundation is sponsoring a benefit screening of the movie for its charitable purposes! And people are already buying tickets!

Another big premiere -- in London on July 16 at the Empire Theatre at Leicester Square!
If I remember correctly, the Empire Theatre was one of two Leicester cinemas which hosted the world premiere of LES MISERABLES.

Does anyone know if they made a new one? I hated the one they did in, I think, 2007. It seemed very quickly thrown together and only had a few people commenting about him. It was a rather odd assortment and mostly co-stars from TBFO, if I recall correctly. It also included Carson Kressly which I didn't get...I like him but I didn't think he belonged as the main spokesperson on Hugh! It also had a few factual errors. I hope they made a new, better one. wolverine wolverine Great picture but wasn't Mariko the main female in the original comic book story? I wonder if they'll do a nice poster featuring Logan & Mariko. I know they're trying to hype the action aspects of the story & Viper & Yukio fill that bill but I always thought there was also quite a love story in the original?? I could be wrong... Sue

I wanted to focus on a couple of quotes from the article because they really do have me "all excited now" LOL! It seems to me that James Mangold and I share the same concerns about what's happening with movies these days: "What’s beautiful about the western is that the technological limitations of the era restrict the ability for someone to go crazy with stuff like CG. So you’re then forced to actually do your job and make a story about people you care about and shoot action that seems real.” I had a similar conversation with my son after seeing Man of Steel. I worry about the future of movies when so many focus on bigger and better effects and less & less on story and character development. All these movies just depend too much on destruction, everything blowing up and someone or something destroying the world. Seriously, how many times can they destroy the world...or New York? Of course I was already excited but, as some may recall, last year I wrote at length about how much I had enjoyed re-watching Shogun...the mini series not the chopped up horrible movie version...and this next quote just reminded me of some of the elements I loved about Shogun: "He’s also a stranger in a strange land and people are talking and there aren’t subtitles. I enjoy playing it that way, that there would be a sense of OZ to it all." In Shogun the audience gets to experience the story along with Blackthorne. It was an extremely risky way to do it but incredibly compelling. I'm very much looking forward to experiencing the Japan saga along with Logan/Wolverine. My excitement has grown considerably in the last few days with the new insights coming out about The Wolverine! Can't wait! smiley-happy036 smiley-happy096 :-/ Sue

Hopefully, the station itself will upload the show on its site.
If this is part of the promotion for THE WOLVERINE, maybe there is a good chance we can see it online.
