X-Men: Days Of Future Past promises to be a mammoth film for its bulging cast list alone. Given that it skips between time periods, sees the mutants fighting for their lives in a dark alternate future and features Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine working with the younger versions of his colleagues, it’s no small undertaking for Fox, either. Now the younger Charles Xavier – James McAvoy – is talking up the scope of the film and his experience making it.

He certainly seems bullish about it. “Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they’ve ever had,” McAvoy tells IGN. “I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they’re definitely going for it.”

With Bryan Singer back calling the shots for this one, McAvoy felt safe. “Bryan’s very protective of the series. He did create it. He did help form that environment that allowed subsequent superhero movies to exist and thrive like they have done for the last however many years. Not to say that there weren’t other superhero movies out at the time, but of that ilk, where it was OK to take it really seriously. He does take it really seriously. There’s a kind or reverence about it, which I like. You want people to take it seriously. That’s what he brings to it I think. And a safe pair of hands – you know you’re in good hands.”

McAvoy also seemed to enjoy working with Hugh Jackman… “Getting to work with Hugh – who I christened Hugo Boss – was great. What he’s like on camera when he’s getting interviewed and you think he’s the nicest man in show business – he is. He’s amazing. The guy’s got grace coming out of every single pore. If we could all be a bit more like Hugh it would be a very happy planet.” There are plenty of people who would agree with that. Here are 2 scree caps I did followed by a question for the class:




As we can see, Wolvie clearly has graying beard & temple hair...my question is: The Professor and Magneto were already old and now Wolvie looks older but they still look just as old. Will that make for continuity issues do you think? It seems all of the X-Men movies have one thing or another that make one go...hmmmm! I'm really looking forward to this one but have to admit this one thing did make me go...hmmmm! Won't ruin the movie for me though, just curious if anyone else thought about it!

He's actually in another frame too! If you look closely there is a hint of a shirtless fight scene. I didn't screen cap it because it was so quick & I have zero patience. smiley-rolleyes010 Maybe I'll try again tomorrow...got to watch the world series in a few minutes.

Harder to see in the first one but the temple hair is gray there too.
Those are the future Wovie, based on the fancy suit, and I suspect that he's going through the time travel process in the screamy looking one. I just wonder how/why they transformed him into a young Wolvie with Elvis hair during the process? The only thought I had was maybe they put his consciousness into his younger self's body. I think they did something similar to that in the comics.

LOL - Wolverine and Jackman fans will be happy

I counted at least 12 (or maybe more) flashes of his character in the 2'18" trailer

The speaking parts were only for Patrick, Ian, and Hugh...and McAvoy, I think <cheer>


And the biggest surprise -- Guess who gets billed in what seems to be above the title???

There is a page which says XMEN : DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

But then the following page says --

You see the FOX and Marvel's names, the producer companies...then, A Bryan Singer Film...then, Hugh Jackman

Before the film title "XMEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST"



As for the trailer -- it is exciting and awesome and something that should whet the appetite of every fanboy/fangirl... and moi, aussi

It is more character-driven and showed minimal fab action scenes ( but that's because the movie is still in post production).

I'm not knowledgeable enough about the XMEN canon to speculate on the details of the trailer -- but here is someone giving a good picture of how the movie is shaping up, based on the trailer:

My observations about the trailer...

To a certain extent, I was disappointed that it was the same as the Comic-Con trailer, but it was nice to see it for real nonetheless (rather than just reading descriptions). Here are some of the major observations I've made after watching it thrice-


Future Xavier is still in a wheelchair: I actually didn't expect this, considering that Xavier apparently survived after X3 by transferring his mind into a new (twin) body...so its possible there's a new explanation for his survival now. Also, his chair looks to be some very advanced futuristic tech, which makes sense given that the future segment is set in 2023 according to Singer.

The time travel involves a temple of some sort: This is a new element which I'm pretty sure wasn't in the comic-book story. So the Future X-men go to this temple place and that's where Logan's mind is sent into the past (by Xavier?). So I assume most of the future segment is about the various X-men defending the temple (and Wolverine's unconscious body) from the Sentinels...since apparently, its necessary for Wolverine to return to his present body in order for the timeline to change (based on a recent explanation by Singer of the film's time travel theory).

X-Mansion and Cerebro in 1973: So, in 1973, we see that the X-Mansion already has the steely hallways it had in the trilogy, and that Cerebro is also the full-fledged 'big round room' from the trilogy. I suppose this means that Xavier had the new Cerebro built in the years between First Class and this film (or its possible that Eric helped him build the new Cerebro behind the scenes during First Class, which would tally with the statements made in X1 and X2 about Magneto helping build Cerebro).

Blink, Sunspot and Warpath are in the future: Along with Bishop. This raises the question of who are the X-men of the past (apart from Beast, the time-travelling Wolverine and Havok)? I suppose Quicksilver and Ink (another character Singer has just revealed is in the movie) might fill that gap. Or maybe Havok and Beast ARE the only X-men in the past, considering that the school has apparently been shut down since 1963 in the past.

Rogue's in some kind of mutant internment camp: Its a blink and you miss it moment, but we see Iceman and possibly Colossus carrying a somewhat weak and exhausted looking Rogue out of a building, which IMO looks to be some kind of mutant internment camp.

Magneto vs. Mystique?: In the past, we see Magneto attacking Mystique. Which actually makes sense given Singer's recent revelation in an interview that Mystique assassinated a 'key figure' in 1973 that caused the horrifying future. Maybe Xavier convinces Magneto that the actions of his partner won't bode well for mutant-kind and so the two work together to stop Raven. It also ties in well with recent comics, where Magneto is pretty much an anti-hero working with the X-men, whereas Mystique is more of a super-villain/terrorist.

Wolverine's got adamantium claws...in 1973?!!: Another blink and you miss it moment, but we see Logan stabbing someone with his claws in what is most likely 1973 (since he isn't wearing his costume and it doesn't appear to be the post-apocalyptic future), and the claws are...adamantium! This raises serious questions about the chronology and continuity of the X-men films. Are we to assume now that Logan went through the adamantium-bonding before 1973? And what does this do to the timeline established in X-men Origins Wolverine?

You are on point. Except rogue is being carried by iceman and that is magneto who is tagged along with them. I like your theory of this temple place. It looks somewhere distant. I wonder if they use the x-jet to get there. However, you can tell that the other x-men are there to defend it because in the trailer storm is looking back at something and you also see the destruction of it with man attacking what I assume is a sentinel. We were promised an avenger like action sequence with the sentinels so I hope that all the x-men kick ass.

About half of the trailer is from footage shown at the comic con sneak peek. Someone in attendance had made a very poor video of that but I recognize the scenes. Some interesting scenes I hadn't viewed previously that I'll have to watch again. I'll have to take some time to review it more carefully to compare with those observations from IMDB.

I am curious if in the next trailer, they will find the time for actors´ names....I saw Ender´s Game trailer recently and the "Academy Award Nominee" with a name attached to it surprised me at this kind of a movie (I love the books but I don´t want to see the movie version of it). I guess it would take at least a minute of the trailer to name them all but I am sure Hugh´s name, along with Jennifer Lawrence (who seems to be popular for some strange reason), Ian, Patrick and Michael Fassbender´s would attract some more attention to it.
But I am still just thrilled that Hugh will be in one movie with James McAvoy
