I was horrified by the Boston explosions. Sue and Natalie, I'm glad you and your loved ones are all right. What a heartbreaking, senseless tragedy. My heart goes out to everyone.

As to the stalker incident, as much as I'd love to see Hugh continue taking things easy like a "regular bloke", according to one story the stalker had recently approached Deb outside Ava's schoo telling her "l'm going to marry your husband". Maybe that part was made up, but I shudder to think of any lunatic trying to "get Deb out of the way". Copycats can turn out even worse. I really hope Hugh and Deb take serious measures for better protection of ALL the family. There's just too many cuckoos out on the loose...

Sorry; feeling really down with all these events. I am totally amazed by Hugh's nerves of steel, going about his life as usual. Admirable, but scary to me.

My heart and prayers go out to all of the people this tragedy affectected. I just got back from Australia, and I thought the world lived like the US considering all we do for airports for safety. I was shcoked that for a flight there, you only have to answer with your last name. You don't show any ID. No monitor, shoes off, bags checked etc. This gave me a strange feeling. Am I too paranoid, or what is happening to this country?
Is it just us?

Really? No bag check, even? Do you mean for flights within Australia or your flight home? Re my flight back to the US after traveling to Oz in '06 for Hugh's arena concerts, my bag was so thoroughly checked that they even confiscated the Sharpie junior pen Hugh used to sign my Brisbane program, which really bummed me out! ("The pen has liquid," was the cited reason.) I guess they've gotten more lax, but what you described may be taking it too far.

Sorry. All of the flights within Australia are not checked. Nothing... Now coming back in the U.S. was a different story. I got a pat down like I've never had. This time we did the luggage switch with the bottles and bags and made it through. Yes, going in, we had to clear customs, but that was a joke. But coming back was your normal horrible check and then running through 3 terminals. How can Oz feel so safe, especially with everything happening in this world? But I will say one thing. I would really love to live in Oz. I really hated to leave :'(

Yup, unfortunately, that sounds more "normal" for the world we live in today. I spent only two weeks in Australia but felt so comfortable, and the people were so nice, that I felt very much at home, too. A train conductor spotted us as tired tourists and offered us M&Ms! --just one example.

Should her bail really only be $7,500 if she's crossed state lines to stalk? Isn't that considered a flight risk? Also, if she was on probation for stalking and left, that's breaking probation and she should be held for that without bail. Or maybe I'm being overly sensitive about it.

Talk about misrepresenting what Hugh said and trying to elicit some controversy --

Then there are the paps and fans in New York.

Jackman says he’s fine with the paparazzi who camp outside of his apartment, but it does bother him a lot about the focus on his kids. He said, “I made the decision as an adult to become an actor and on some level you’re stupid if you don’t realize that this comes with it…but my kids didn’t ask for it.”

But he doesn’t mind the fans at all. Especially his fellow New Yorkers. He says that his fellow citizens in the “Big Apple” are pretty cool. He explained, “The classic New York comment is, ‘Hey man, how are you? I liked your work in that film.’ And then they walk on, it’s cool.”

But Jackman says that the “out-of-towners” are a bit of a problem, though. He says, “I have a funny feeling that to get a photo with a celebrity is even greater than climbing the Empire State Building. I see people just behave appallingly. Even if I say, ‘I’m with my family,’ there are tourists who are like, ‘Uh huh, I don’t care.’”

So tourists, get your act together, okay?

MACOMB, IL — Voting for Western Illinois University's 2014 Homecoming king and queen will end at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at purplepost.wiu.edu. The winners will be announced at the annual Yell Like Hell event, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 in Western Hall.

New this year will be the announcements of a male and female runner-up. All of the members of the royal court will be in the Homecoming parade at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.

Based on this year's homecoming theme, "A Hero's Homecoming - Who's Your Hero," candidates were asked who their hero is and why. This year's candidates for king and queen, by hometown, are:




MOLINE-Alex Parker is a junior majoring in exercise science and minoring in psychology. His hero is Hugh Jackman. "He is my hero because to me a hero represents a role model. He is a well-rounded person who has a great aesthetic build, is involved in many movies, is active at giving to charities and is a survivor of skin cancer. My sister Karen and her husband Eric spent the last few weeks traveling around Ireland and England and were coming home via the Toronto airport when this happened:

Coincidentally, I'd watched a bit of “Les Miserables” on HBO this week, partly because I'd become a fan of the music (original Broadway cast album) since seeing the movie, and partly in anticipation of the Bloomington Civic Theater's production of “Les Miz,” which will star my nephew, my sister's son, Jordan, as Gavroche. And that's what I wanted to know. Did Karen tell Hugh Jackman about her own Gavroche? She did, and he wished Jordy well. She added:


He's even more lovely in person. He shook all the security people's hands and smiled through the wait to get through and didn't even bother to put his shoes on before taking this picture with me.

Hugh Jackman is good to his fans

Hugh Jackman always feels guilty if he is short with his fans.

The actor has been called the nicest man in Hollywood, and has admitted that it is easier to greet autograph seekers with a smile because if he is rude instead, he will spend the rest of his day worrying about it.

He said: ”I suppose there have been times where I’ve been a bit short with people. And I find that the minute after, my mind is like, ‘Why did you do that? That poor person, they just wanted a photo,’ or whatever. It stays in my head. It’s actually harder work for me. It’s easier for me to be polite and look people in the eye and shake their hand than to do it any other way. Maybe it’s just the way I was brought up.”



Hugh, currently starring in Pan, always buys lottery tickets for the cast and crew of his movies on Fridays, explaining that his attempts to treat everyone equally on set are because he didn’t find fame until relatively late in his career, and he was often treated badly up until that time.

He explained to The Guardian: ”I didn’t have any power in this industry until I was maybe 30, and I’ve had many, many jobs where I was way down the other end of the food chain, and so I always respected the people who were at the top who seemed to care about what you did and appreciate you. So I’ve tried to never forget that.”

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, there are plenty of beauty myths that are widespread and probably handed down through the generations.The advent of the internet certainly hasn't helped, and some of these myths may even have been shared thousands of times across social media. I am not sure how some of these came to be, but here are a few beauty myths that people should really stop following.

#1 Shaving makes the hair grow back faster and coarser.

My bff (best friend forever) Herman has a teeny sprinkling of hair adorning his chest. To him, the ideal chest of hair would resemble that of Hugh Jackman. To some ladies, petting the Wolverine's chest is a sure way to increase joy and reduce stress.

Thus, Herman shaves his chest regularly, in the false belief that by doing so, the hair would grow back longer and coarser, making him more of a man.Of course, after years of doing so, his chest hair is still as patchy and spotty as ever.The myth came about because shaving body or facial hair gives the shaven hair a blunt tip. This tip might feel coarser and more stubbly as it grows out. Thus, the hair appears more noticeable, darker and thicker, but it's not.

So ladies, it is okay to shave if threading, waxing and permanent laser hair removal is not your thing.
