In this ad he had to put the watch on the other wrist (as he normally wears it on his right wrist since he's left-handed) Nancy

Re Behind the Scenes on the making of the TOKYO Hotel dancing Lipton commercial, from a few years ago -- I remember seeing something similar but not this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoBvC9FzHKAHugh has excellent dancing ( and acrobatic - the benefits of being an action star ) skills! smiley-happy036 JO

Whoa! When did this happen? Too bad it's not a full version; hope one pops up. (I still prefer his pre-Joan Lader-coached voice, but this will do nicely for now.) Ellen

You're right, Ellen and Alma. The current voice technique may be designed to prevent vocal damage during long term use, but is does have more of a nasal quality than his baritone "Curly" voice. I too prefer the baritone quality, and I'm curious about Joan's reasons for changing it.

If you're referring to how he sang in Les Miserables, maybe the change was due to the fact that the Valjean vocal score was transposed to a tenor range, which happened when Colm Wilkinson opened the English version of the stage musical. Prior to that, it was written for a baritone ( Paris, Palais de Sports, 1980) and was transposed to a tenor range when Colm came on board for the first English version staging. Colm also introduced Bring Him Home as part of the Valjean songbook ( not found in the original Paris version). Maybe they did not want to transpose the Valjean score back to baritone when Hugh portrayed the role and simply had him coached to be able to sing at the higher end of his high-baritone voice range?
How did he sound at the TONYs? Or earlier, how did he sing at his birthday concert of the one-man show in L.A. in 2013 ( a year after he sang in Les Miserables) - did he also change his version of Carousel?

Jo, Ever since TBFO, he seems to produce more of a nasal tenor sound, even when doing "Soliloquy". It's O.K., if he's more comfortable with that. I just wish he would take a few lessons with Paolo Szot and find a balance between the two registers. Just my preference, of course.

He did take lessons with another opera tenor when he was filming Van Helsing, to prepare for The Boy From Oz. Could that have been the start of the departure from his baritonal Curly?
Occasionally, I have also found Hugh's voice to be somewhat nasally - even with his normal speaking voice. And sometimes a reedy/thin quality seems to creep in his singing voice. I have absolutely no knowledge of judging voice quality -- those are just observations from how he sounds occasionally.

From other fansites -- video interview re the TOYOTA commercials: www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=926936537332958&set=vb.903056096387669&type=2&theaterHugh is an ad man's dream model - he is known worldwide, he can sing, dance, and act...and has a very pleasant personality to work with. Other actors also have international commercials, but the work is basically talking in endorsing the product ( maybe some action scenes - which Hugh can also do), unlike Hugh who is very versatile. He can also look very elegant, like in the Montblanc ads. Jo

I was passing by the plushiest store around here ( like a Bergdorf Goodman), which is located on the main avenue of the prime commercial and financial district here in the Philippines -- and I was dumbstruck to see five separate huge store windows carrying the whole array of MONTBLANC products with Hugh and his name prominently featured on the store window displays! It is the same series of Montblanc ads seen here. Maybe the reason for the prominent display is because Montblanc products would appeal a lot to upscale financial and business execs...and because the commercial district is located on the other side of the main artery where the plushiest homes are located on the other side?
The last time I saw a celebrity featured prominently on an ad in this store was Eddie Redmayne for Burberry...but it was just in the Burberry boutique inside the store. No comparison to how Hugh is featured on the outside store windows, with Hugh's name in big letters. Eddie's image was part of the ad, but no mention of who he was.

It looks like he was having breakfast at The Peninsula in Hongkong. Given that he also mentions a day brief ( see the paper across him), I wonder if he is there for another commercial ad project? Could it also going to be filmed at the venerable Peninsula Hotel Jo
