Maybe be a little OT --
But I wonder if Hugh has heard that Jude Law is doing HENRY V, with noted director Michael Grandage, in London?
If Hugh ever did Shakespeare, I thought he might be interested to do this vehicle, supposedly his favorite play. But if Jude Law has a successful London run, it could transfer to Broadway?

I saw that show a while back. It's a very emotional musical based on a woman's graphic novel/comic book about her family's living in a funeral home, her coming out as a lesbian while in college and the tragic fate awaiting her father.
If Hugh saw it last night, I wonder if he skipped his now usual Wednesday matinee, or if he did a doubleheader.

Someone tweeted this --
If true, which one were they watching?
If I ever get that chance to watch a play with Hugh in the next seat - I will probably ask for a refund from the theatre because there was too much distraction giggle

It looks like it was GLASS MENAGERIE!
Is he concentrating now on watching straight plays. I wonder if he is seriously considering doing one ( I remember a recent interview where he said he was looking at one, although he couldn't say which one yet). Hmmm... Tennessee Williams?? I could see him as Brick ( Cat on a) or could he do Stanley K ( Streetcar) although maybe he may be looking for slightly older male roles??
Or is he thinking of doing something later, in the fall? Unless a major film project comes along.
PS: I saw an earlier revival of Glass Menagerie with Jessica Lange and Christian Slater, the first TWilliams I have seen on a live stage. I have only seen his plays in film adaptations.

To this day I consider Jonquils as "my flower" both for the birth month and the role.

Hugh's seeing some good productions. I hope he gets to see, if he hasn't seen it already, A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER--a zany, English musical hall approach to an oddly light-hearted tale of a likable down-and-outer determined to eliminate the eight goofy/nasty relatives who stand between him and the title of Earl. It's a tour de force for Jefferson Mays as the various victims. Jamie, I was also Amanda in a high school in-class performance of key scenes from GLASS MENAGERIE during the semester I took Play Production. I have fond memories of happily hamming it up. Ellen

I thought it was just a regular performance of LEAR at BAM, too, until I read that he escorted her to a gala held not at BAM but at Skylight One Hanson, also in Brooklyn. Hmmm, not too dressed up for a gala, is he?
So nice that he's kept up his association with the Schoenfeld family. Jerry Schoenfeld and his wife thought of him like a son. No wonder Hugh was asked to write the foreword to the former's theatrical memoir--and did such a beautiful job on it, too.

The cocktails were at Skylight Hanson, but the performance was at BAM's Harvey Theater, then followed by a dessert reception at the lobby.

Ellen, Hugh is usually appropriately dressed esp for formal occasions. But could he have been tied up that day ( please see the instagram image posted by a certain Sam Hollander a day ago) showing Hugh wearing the same outfit ( leather jacket, white round-collar tee, brownish pants) -- maybe the recording session lasted longer than expected and he went directly to the BAM gala? Maybe he had to rush to Brooklyn for the reception? http://instagram.com/p/kF4raqRBdf # Of course, I am just speculating - LOL! Jo

Despite his super busy schedule in Londontown, it seems that Hugh took the time to catch up on what was playing at the West End -- It is the stage adaptation of the film FATAL ATTRACTION. That sounds like an interesting subject on stage! Maybe Hugh had also caught up with Trevor Nunn who directed the play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Also, was Hugh perhaps imbibing more of the vibes of straight dramas, in anticipation of his turn onstage next year? www.theatreroyalhaymarket.co.uk/Fatal-Attraction.htmlThe play itself, based on reviews by Mark Shenton and Michael Billington, did not get strong reviews. I wonder if it will have a chance to transfer to Broadway because the movie itself was quite a dramatic hit! The London production also marks the stage debut of Kristin Davis ( Sex and the City?). Jo

Hugh is catching up on seeing the shows before he hosts the TONYs. He has already done pretty good in the past few months. This one is to watch frontrunner Bryan Cranston in ALL THE WAY --

Yesterday's matinee, which Hugh attended, also played to invited class presidents and student council officials from more than 50 New York public high schools. I wonder if Hugh stayed for the talkback at which members of the cast, including Bryan Cranston, took questions from the kids. It must have been an exciting day for them--not only "Waler White" (although I still think of him as lecherous dentist Tim Whatley on SEINFELD), but "Wolverine," too.

I wonder if he is squeezing in as many shows as he can, not only to feel truly knowledgeable when he annotates them during the TONYs, but is he working with a writing team now to put together his own special numbers for the awards show? Something similar to what he did for the Oscars with a great team ( they won an EMMY for the job!) in 2009? Will he have a break-the-fourth-wall contest with Hedwig (spit! spit!) or lift weights with Ramin to show off the brawnier Valjean, or dance like how Warren C of After Midnight taught him in Back on Broadway... or be more than a trifecta character like Jefferson Mays ( who won a TONY for a play, also with multiple personalities, when Hugh won his TBFO Tony)...or sing with Idina, Sutton, Kelli. He can't sing with old friend Audra as she is not nominated for a musical - but who cares if Audra's nomination is not for a musical role - they sounded romantic together in the Carousel concert. A long time ago, when Hugh was signed up for TONY hosting in 2004 (year of TBFO competing at the TONYs) -- we speculated on the old TBFO forum that it would be a great idea if he danced with the Rockettes, using the Bicoastal number. He did dance with the Rockettes, but used "Not The Boy Next Door" for the Bicoastal number Ahhh...the possibilities smiley-cool13 Jo

Ten years ago, they were co-TONY nominees. Hugh won for The Boy from Oz and Idina won for WICKED.

Yeah, he went Friday evening. I'm hoping his gushing was due to his being a good sport and showing professional courtesy.
