I'm still hopeful HJ will someday star in a revival of something Sondheim--preferably SWEENEY TODD or A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. SUNDAY IN THE PARK would have been a good choice, too, but probably couldn't be soon after JG.

Not sure if I want him to do A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC as that is not really focused mainly on the male lead? SWEENEY TODD -- he has said in the past that this is the Sondheim musical he has wanted to do? I wonder if he had been considered when the film adaptation was being made? If he does this one -- to complete the triptych, could a stage musical of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS be far behind -- jk Also, there is always his preference for new material which prods him to do productions that are not considered classics. Although he came to be known via OKLAHOMA! Jo

Argh. I was right across the street on the lobby of the Marriott Marquis til about 6:25, when I left to go to a reading of a new play. Too bad I exited via 46th rather than 45th. I usually like to watch the celeb last-minute arrivals if I'm in the area on an opening night. Totally forgot about Laurie Metcalf's opening. I hear it's pretty good, by the way. Hugh seemed to like it.

Most wags are betting on the opening night Hugh attended last night: A DOLL'S HOUSE PART TWO, with its star Laurie Metcalf taking a Tony for herself. I haven't seen it yet but plan to.
SWEAT won the Pulitzer, so that's also a major contender, and OSLO got very good notices, but from what I've read DOLL'S HOUSE seems to be the front runner.

Hugh and family came to see another potential TONY nominee -- http://instagram.com/p/BTjPlkGDtdf Btw, Aussie Tim Minchin wrote the score for MATILDA... and was working on the animation musical LARRIKINS for a long time ( and about ready for filming), when the project fell through. The new owners of DREAMWORKS changed their mind about the greenlight for it and for other projects. Hmmm.... Is Hugh falling with love with the stage all over again Jo

He (Morgan Smallbone) is apparently a casting director for extras who worked on X-Men Origins and The Wolverine according to IMDB. H e appears to be visiting Hugh and Deb. The picture of him and Hugh that I posted was a repost by another Jackman fan. He seems to have been designated their official pre-gala photographer. Here is a picture he took of Deb coming down her steps. http://instagr.am/p/BTlUo4uDcrM

That's the dress Bette wears in the finale. So they must be visiting her backstage after the performance. I missed them by a couple of weeks. Of course, I doubt they did standing room. Ellen

That Distinguished Performance Award is special---you can win it only once in a lifetime. There are always dozens of nominees every year. After you win, you can no longer be nominated.
