Hmmm, does Deb chew gum? Could be a jocular reference to his stepping on a wad of gum she accidentally left behind.
Or maybe it's Hugh's way of saying they're sticking together, like gum to a shoe.
Of course that's assuming that hashtag is another pet name, sort of, for Deb. if not, maybe one of the kiddies.
Or not. Still cute, no matter who's on the receiving end of Hugh's affection.

I wonder what 'she doing wearing a tux on a Monday morning -- could he be doing some promos for the coming TONYs?

Nominations stream live today at 8:30 a.m. EST. With all the Harris hoopla, I'm so glad Hugh is NOT in the running this season.

Hugh was a surprise pop-in at the Tony noms. Lucy Liu seemed very surprised--but happy that she got a kiss. All he basically did was say hi to the CBS morning show hosts, and then say something like "Don't forget, 8 p.m., Sunday, June 8, CBS, live." Hugh is such an ardent supporter of anything he commits so. He must have been tired coming in from St. Louis last night. Good on ya, Hugh!

Yeah, a quirky bunch of picks. I love Mark Rylance on stage, but TWO noms? Did they not see how brilliant Ian McKellen was in GODOT? Or Zachary Quinto in GLASS MENAGERIE? Or Steven Pasquale in BRIDGES? No Best Musical nod for BULLETS or BRIDGES? Happy for musicals veteran Andy Karl's first nomination. Seems there was just no room to recognize every stellar performance. I hope a third snub doesn't dissuade Daniel Radcliffe from coming back to Broadway.

Michelle Williams ( Cabaret) and Rachel Craig ( Betrayal) were not also nominated. Hey, is James Franco (Of Mice and Men) livid that he was ignored - LOL!
Hmm...maybe plays in the fall and very late April suffer some disadvantages? Or is this part of the Hollywood snub which Hunter Foster used to push?
I agree that Daniel Radcliffe is really good on stage -- I have only seen him in How To Succeed in Business and he had very strong stage skills, including an excellent presence. I liked him much better than Aaron Tveit whom I saw at the same time.
Next season, Bradley Cooper is already confirmed. I saw him in Three Days of Rain and he will be appearing in The Elephant Man (which he has done elsewhere before).
And Hugh -- is he considered Hollywood or Broadway ?

I don't understand why Daniel Radcliffe has always been snubbed. I saw him in Equus and How to Succeed, and I think he should have been nominated for both. He was brilliant in Equus, which is one of my all-time favorite plays.
I was really surprised about Denzel being snubbed, especially since the show received great reviews. I was one of many who felt that he is too old for the part, but I still thought he would be nominated.

Who's writing Hugh's script and production numbers? Hmmm...

Yeah, a quirky bunch of picks . . . Seems there was just no room to recognize every stellar performance. I hope a third snub doesn't dissuade Daniel Radcliffe from coming back to Broadway. I have not (yet) seen any of these shows, so it's difficult for me to comment on the choices. I do wholeheartedly agree about Daniel. He could have easily taken his Harry Potter fortune and retired. I admire him, his talent and his choice to work on stage. I saw both Equus and How To Succeed. As I probably said before, he worked *really* hard at being a song/dance man. He did a good job, but the fact that I could "see" him working at it lessened my enjoyment. My thrill from a truly stellar performance comes when all that hard work seems totally effortless (e.g. Hugh in TBFO), and Daniel never quite mastered the impish guile and innocent narcissism Robert Morse had "in spades" in the original production. Daniel did an excellent job in Equus and I thought he should have gotten a nomination, if not a win, in the "featured" category. With such a Big Name on the marquee, some people (HP fans) did not realize that the play is more about the psychiatrist than the patient. I also hope these (obvious) snubs do not dampen his enthusiasm for Broadway. I look forward to seeing his current show - and many more. I enjoy the Tonys' award show far more than the Oscars these days. I love the fact that there are still such amazing LIVE performances (which the Oscars used to do well, but has all but eliminated). I always look forward to Tony night - and with Hugh as host (icing on the cake!) - even more so this year. I may never get to attend again (as I did for Hugh in 2005), but I clear my evening and ignore the phone to watch it on TV.

A too-late poster on AllThatChat laments that all the Tony tickets available to the general public are gone. He's right to grumble---all along, they've been advertising that the tickets would be available April 30, not April 29. But as with most events, tickets will undoubtedly materialize as the date approaches.

Since I experience Broadway vicariously through any means possible, YouTube, blogs, soundtracks, articles etc, I never really feel like I have a "horse in the race" so to speak except when Hugh's involved...I somehow take that personally smiley-love067 This year I'm thrilled that he's hosting again but I wish it wasn't at the same time that both Ramin & Neil are nominated for best performance <boo> Also both their shows are nominated for best revival of a musical ...I know, sour grapes...but it just makes me remember all the Les Miserables negativity from the Broadway crowd and also all the people who seem to now think that Neil is Mr Tony-I think he may agree with them too~ <rant> make that a double! I was happy to see that Hugh's friend was nominated: Best Direction of a Musical Warren Carlyle, After Midnight It'll be fun to see Hugh's reaction & pleasure if he wins!! In the snubs category, I was surprised that the Sirs weren't nominated also nothing for either Shuler Hensley or Billy Crudup or for the Two Play In Rep-No Man's Land & Waiting For Godot. I was hoping for more entertaining pix from them from Tony night LOL! I'll still enjoy the show and I'll love every minute that Hugh is on. I hope they write a great opening number for him...blockbuster!!!!! I'm very happy that it won't be rap! (based on that post about rapping above) I hate rap & don't think it suits Hugh at all! Well, I think I've rambled enough! Just the other day, when I was reading a relatively 'old' book (1993) called Sing Out, Louise (150 Stars of the Musical Theatre Remember 50 Years on Broadway, by Dennis McGovern and Deborah Grace Winer), I came across a quote about the Tony Awards, which said, "You won't believe how political these things are." It continued about how someone had received rave reviews and the audiences loved his performance... but the Tonys ignored him. This was way back in the day. I guess some things never change... Alma

I really appreciate comments from ALL THAT CHAT at this time of the year. While I did not have a chance to see Broadway this year, based on reviews and year-round discussions on a board like ATC ( BWW, not so much - they tend to be more sensationalized there), criticisms or praise of how the Nominating Committee voted seem generally fair and expressed without rancor or sentiments. And I enjoy the contributions on that board of many serious theatre-goers who can dissect plays or musicals - their good and bad points, the quality of performances - in a very professional manner. Some of their opinions have sounded like how the critics would have viewed artistic merits wholly. Not the usual oh-ing and ah-ing like on BWW! If I have a chance to go to NYC, I like to be "influenced" by what I read on ATC, more than anything else. And that includes comments from one of their respected members, Mamaleh Jo

Someone who was replying to the subject of ratings suffering because of the lack of MOVIE STARS, said that "Hugh and his team will have their work cut out for them" -- that is probably going to be true. Although someone said that the TONYs are really watched only by the same subset of the TV audience -- the same people who enjoy the theatre! *Will some of the movie stars be invited as presenters...and will they come? *Someone suggested that John Travolta should be invited so he can " read" the names in his inimitable way( my favorite suggestion was "Kelia O'Hio" -LOL!) *Will Hugh help to ask people like the two Sirs ( Ian and Patrick) to present awards -- as this would be Ian's last time on Broadway ( he said so) and as they and Hugh will be coming from the opening of their latest movie together - that would be a treat! Maybe they can also ask Fassy and James and even Mystique-Jennifer *It would be nice if Denzel and Daniel ( who seem to like being onstage fairly often) would be asked to present -- their shows are still on Broadway. Not so much James Franco - just kidding *I hope that DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will have shown uber-fantastic worldwide figures by that time ( the movie is released on May 23 in the USA and China and one or two days before elsewhere) and would give the name recall of Jackman, McKellen, and Stewart as an incentive to watch them live on TV. *Hugh should consider doing at least three fantastic numbers ( Opening, Mid-show, and Closing)!! "You never know who's going to show" -- he has been teasing with these lines for a few times now? Hmmm...maybe he will show up as Wolverine with the whole Days of Future Past gang with him...and thank the fans for supporting the blockbuster Haha - wishful thinking -- but why not?? Sir Ian and Sir Patrick are "legit" personas who are currently on Broadway! Hmm...Jennifer-Mystique, James, and Fassy -- hey, who knows when they will eventually grace the Broadway stage ... They are all Oscar winners/nominees, save for Sir Patrick Or...his Les Mis film adaptation co-stars?? Nah - too much wishful thinking even if together they sang a Les Mis number at the Oscars! Annie has appeared on the NYC stage ( Shakespeare in the Park, City Center Encores?), Eddie R has won a featured actor TONY, Aaron has been a Broadway leading man, and Samantha has legit chops from the West End...plus Colm W was a TONY nominee as Valjean in 1988! Okay, I give up, Mr. Jackman! I just hope that the telecast will be covered by our regional cable service, just as the Oscars, the Emmys and the Grammys, even the SAGs and occasionally the Baftas... and even Miss Universe are shown here at our related time zone Jo

Hmmmm...I actually had read that he was taking 3 days off elsewhere but here he announces he's back in his own humble (choke) way: Neil Patrick Harris @actuallynph Just touched down from my 3-day, restful getaway with @davidburtka. Back on the grid. Get this: I got nominated for a Tony Award! #Gaaah! What's with these performers lately having to take rest time from their shows?? Hugh never took 3 days to rest...he got to take a day off here & there to go do promo for a movie or host some gala or a special performance somewhere...hardly restful! Wimps! smiley-taunt002 Sue
