Maybe I should repost this as a new topic ( originally posted on the Oklahoma! thread) -- as it has more to do with a forthcoming Broadway spectacle, although not necessarily a Broadway show in the strictest sense. Fan2 on BWW uploaded the photo --

Also, this one -- It looks like this is going to be part of the tourist/theatre fan attractions in the Times Square area -- www.playbill.com/news/article/160959-Broadways-Times-Square-Theater-Will-Be-Renovated-for-Broadway-Sensation-Film-ShowIt looks like this has been a somewhat long-gestating project ( article posted here was in April 2012) and the Playbill feature focuses more on what is happening to the Times Square Street theatre -- but there are hints about the project. We'll keep watching developments. But maybe the tweet from Hugh indicates that the project is now moving in terms of the film experience project ( although I am surprised that Bryan Singer is working on it at this point -- given that he is sill in post-production for DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) I hope Hugh is part of the team spearheading the project, not just be part of it as just a performer. This was an interesting exchange on twitter today Note: Nigel Wright twitter page profile says "Music Producer. Music supervisor. Music Director. On all things film/record and TV. First class moaning guaranteed" nigelwright @nigeliswright “@realhughjackman: This is the day I recorded the track for Broadway 4D. http://instagram.com/p/lDw7UKChP9 ” it's finally ok to say what we are doing!
Betty Buckley @bettybuckley @nigeliswright @realhughjackman Is it? Are we allowed to talk about it now? Emphasis is mine! Sue

I also looked at Betty's feed and spotted this tweet with a photo which looks to be taken in the same room as Hugh's tweet: Jason Robert Brown @mrjasonrbrown 5h It All Fades Away! pic.twitter.com/TuA80MAqBrAck, can't get link to work but here it is:

That's Steve Pasquale recording "It All Fades Away," a song his character, Robert, sings near the end of the musical THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. The 2-disk album was just recorded and should be released in a couple of months or so. That must be a popular recording studio.

According to the Playbill article --
It looks like the multimedia show will showcase the best in Broadway, aimed at domestic and international visitors or even theatre fans who are feeling nostalgic.
Since OKLAHOMA! is considered "the American landmark musical", it is really a singular honor for Hugh to be presenting its most memorable song in the multi-media show. I wonder if he is recording just the new track or will he be in full costume? He never got to Broadway for the role (it was Patrick Wilson who reprised the RNT revival interpretation) but Hugh is now a big part of Broadway.
As to why the set is featured in the recording studio -- maybe the presentation will showcase the recording process together with the set design process? Ironically, the set design for the RNT revival was not from a Broadway talent, but from the West End. It was such a bare set design that when I saw the show in London ( back in 1999), I thought it wasn't spectacular enough - LOL!

Yes, those glasses and plaid shirt ( which he now seems to favor) remind one of Bryan.
But I am not sure if he does have the time to handle the project right now - given that DOFP is only about two months from release...and they still have to release the second trailer ( although there is some buzz that it might happen on March 5).

Maybe at first glance--but I don't see Bryan Singer's features when I look closely at his face. He's probably someone working on recording the OCR for BRIDGES.

I must have missed something, because I have no idea what this Broadway thing is about. Can someone explain? Is it part of the Tony's? A new show? Sorry for being so out of it.

Don't know if you got a chance to read the whole thread yet, there are a couple of links to older articles. It seems to be some kind of tourist attraction to showcase the best of Broadway & has something to do with renovating the old Times Square theater. It became interesting because of a couple of recent tweets, especially the one from Hugh! Clear as mud now right? Sue

It looks like Hugh will sing the opener for the multimedia show ("Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'") -- makes sense because OKLAHOMA! is considered the landmark American musical, having redefined the genre ( integrating the book and the music into a tight knit, plus using dance to evolve the story as well)! I wonder if the multi-media show will be sold as a souvenir video at the theatre? Jo

Heh. For years I've been thinking, Los Angeles has movie-related museums and showcases, so why doesn't NYC offer something on arguably its main attraction, live theater? That is, besides the Library of the Performing Arts, located way north of where most tourists tread. And even that is usually just one or two exhibits. Well, it's about time. Even if they stole "my" idea. Which is very likely the identical idea gazillions of others have had over the years, too. Ellen

Ellen I'm really surprised that there isn't already a "Broadway museum" of some sort. The confusing part to me is the whole description of it as an "immersive experience" (complete with smell??? what?). But I assume that's all part of trying to drum up interest. After all, this will have to compete for the attention of musical theater tourists who are there to see actual musicals. Although maybe they are gunning for the more general NY tourists as well. Really hope they come up with something truly worth visiting. Also, I think they are leery about labeling it as a "museum", as the name implies musty, silent displays of artifacts and such.

Yeah, I think that's why they're calling it Broadway 4D. It purports to allow the visitor to "experience" Broadway's iconic moments. Smart labeling.

Glad to oblige Kathy! smiley-hug006 PS: I agree, Ellen, it's about time that NYC had an attraction celebrating one of its best known tourist activities. And it might even attract non theater types who go out of curiosity and they may even get interested in seeing a show afterwards! If the finished theater looks as good as the rendering it should attract attention: Sue

I wonder if Hugh will sing not only OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNIN' but also perform (with others) snatches from the two big musical numbers ( The Farmer and the Cowman...and the Dream Ballet with Laurey)? OKLAHOMA! did not just do a revelatory integration of book, music, and lyrics but it also used dance to advance the story. The Farmer and the Cowman illustrated the rift between the farmers and the cowboys and hopefully gets the cultural divide resolved. The Dream Ballet evolves from Laurey's dream fantasy to a nightmare.
Of course West Side Story will likely be used to illustrate the power of dance in musical theatre but Oklahoma! laid part of the groundwork in its evolution as a vehicle to advance the plot.

It sure did. OK! is what started the device of the "dream ballet," which lots of shows later employed, imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. Ellen

My theory is that they may have new taped performances by stars like Hugh as intros for each show that represents a bit of Broadway history. I think the rest of the interactive bits would most likely be audio/video presentations of the important aspects of certain shows. That would include innovations like the creation of Dream Ballet sequences beginning with Oklahoma! So they might include the ballet scene from the DVD for instance, or any other stagings that might have been filmed, along with historical photos from the original etc. Just a theory mind you... smiley-signs002 Sue

Ironic that the best revival of the landmark American musical ( OK!) came from across the pond! Even the reinterpretation of the Dream Ballet was a first with the Nunn-helmed version. For the first time, the principal leads did their own dancing in that famous number, unlike previous stage versions and even the movie version where professional dancers replaced the leads for the dance sequence.
Will they use footage from the RNT OKLAHOMA! or will we see Patrick Wilson dancing instead?

"The Farmer and the Cowman" choreography has the subplot of range war. Dancing was subsequently used to advanced the plots of musicals instead of just entertaining breaks in the story. Examples: The Louise Ballet in CAROUSEL, "Small House of Uncle Thomas" in THE KING AND I, the chase scene after the wedding in BRIGADOON, and most of ALLEGRO (which didn't work as well). Kudos to R&H and Agnes DeMille for creating musical plays.

They are also featuring pop icons to increase attention level to this forthcoming tourism attraction -- in this case, Christina Aguilera will be performing the iconic song from Andrew Lloyd Webber's EVITA called DON'T CRY FOR ME, ARGENTINA ( which crossed over to popular music appeal during its heyday). www.broadwayworld.com/article/Dont-Cry-For-Her-Christina-Aguilera-To-Sing-EVITA-In-Upcoming-BROADWAY-4D-Movie-20140418#.U1HuY9FZrOUI wonder if this is going to be released as a movie, as suggested in above article? Or will it simply be available for viewing in this theatre? But will they allow DVD/BluRay copies for sale? Will Hugh be involved in musicals other than OKLAHOMA? Maybe CAROUSEL? Others? Jo
