Yes, my guess is he encountered a Bruce Lee memorabilia exhibit whilst in Hong Kong last September. The look definitely fits.

And people are tying up the image of the four claws to Bruce Lee's ENTER THE DRAGON...it may have been the prop used by the villain in that movie. Bruce Lee died unexpectedly before the release of the 1973 movie.

It looks like Jackman is just checking out some classic movie props, and this is the claw attached to Han's hand in Enter the Dragon, when the character, played by Kien Shih, fought Bruce Lee while wearing the device.

Just where he saw the prop is an interesting question on its own, though. It was sold at auction in April 2013, at over $20,000 (eight thousand higher than they thought it would go for).

I can’t imagine anyone else ever playing Wolverine. It’s Hugh Jackman’s character, and while it will inevitably live on once he hangs up the claws, he wants to make sure he does right by the character. He genuinely loves the little mutant, and wants to make sure his final outing, Wolverine 3, sends him out on a high note (thanks to X-Men: Origins, he knows what the nadir looks like).


Steve caught up with Jackman at Sundance before the secret screening of his new film Eddie the Eagle, where he plays an Olympic skiing coach to an aspiring ski jumper played by Taron Egerton. During their conversation, Steve asked for an update on the screenplay, which we last heard was about the father/son relationship between Logan and Professor X:

HUGH JACKMAN: We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished — well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close—as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps … yeah, it’s sooner rather than later.



TARON EGERTON: Also, the pecs are expanding as well.



JACKMAN: I have had six meals today already.

So after Wolverine 3 if you’re ever hoping against hope that Jackman returns to the role, keep a weather eye on his facial hair and pectoral muscles.

Steve also asked when and where they’ll start filming, and the actor responded:


JACKMAN: I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go.

Personally, I’m curious to know how Wolverine 3 relates to the new timeline that X-Men: Apocalypse is establishing. Keep in mind that The Wolverine no longer exists because Jean Grey is still alive, and therefore Logan wouldn’t be mourning her death, etc.

Wolverine 3 is currently slated for March 3, 2017.

Also, I posted last January 21 re an IMDB notation that there has been an update on the script on January 8.

Plus, I have been speculating that the documents he has been carrying to the gym lately was possibly the script of Wolverine 3 ( encased in a faux cover - that of his Meister M.A.P)

And he has been faithfully doing his gym work lately, even in Geneva

Although James Mangold's twitter has been very discreet -- someone asked him what he was working on right now (sneaky way to find out about the progress on Wolverine 3 ) and he did not reply . James is usually very gracious when someone sends him a tweet.

Also, The Hollywood Reporter noted in its review of EDDIE THE EAGLE, that Hugh seems to be intent on keeping fit because he was writing down everything that he eats. He was seen eating Japanese food at the festival because of the Japanese chopsticks ( it seemed like sashimi and Japanese veggies).

Everyone seemed looking for clues that Wolverine is coming back to say Goodbye

The photo that made me wonder. I thought that it must have been deliberate ( letting the facial hair grow) when he usually shaves when there is an important occasion. He might have a neat scruff on, but not the start of a full beard. So...

Will this be the first XMEN movie to be filmed in the USA ( unless the scenes in XMEN-3 involving the Golden Gate Bridge actually filmed in San Francisco)? Do the locations give any clue as to what Wolverine tale(s) will inspire the film adaptation?

Btw, Gambit is listed in the same source as starting production only in May, 2016 ( it is till slated for an October 2016 release date).


Back to WOLVERINE 3 -- the project seems in actual pre-production as the list of crew and creative teams are now slowly building up, per IMDB.

Will other scenes be filmed in the FOX Studios in Hollywood ( if they need any sound stages) - I am not familiar if New Mexico and New Orleans offer that kind of facility.

It seems that FOX has used filming facilities in New Mexico for another blockbuster movie slated for released this year - INDEPENDENCE DAY : RESURGENCE (aka Independence Day 2). Is this because the area lends itself to extensive outside filming locations? Just guessing...and trying to relate it to the possible subject of WOLVERINE 3

Also, in the past, New Mexico was the filming locale for THE AVENGERS and TRANSFORMERS.

Maybe time to read up on OLD MAN LOGAN, in case the locales fit that storyline and setting of that series of Wolverine tales ?

Before Madeleine Stowe was booked as the villainess temptress on the ABC series Revenge (2011 – 2015) she was widely touted as Screenwriter for the war drama, “Unbound Captives”. On the roster to star are none other than Hugh Jackman, Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz. Rumor has it that after a long pause, production is back on the table for an early 2016 New Mexico shoot.

“Unbound Captives” is about a woman (Weisz) whose husband is killed and her children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is rescued by a frontiersman, played by Jackman.

Hopes are high that New Mexico also has a shot at sharing production duties with an international location for the latest installment of the Wolverine trilogy. The untitled Wolverine project is slated for release in the spring of 2017. Jackman has been world famous for playing the duel role of Logan/Woleverine in the X-Men franchise since 2000.

The rumor about UNBOUND CAPTIVES is probably just that - a rumor. Hugh has already started the physical preparations for his final WOLVERINE film. Also, he might still be doing some promo work for EDDIE THE EAGLE closer to the USA release date of Feb 26 and possibly for the release in the UK on April 1.

Re WOLVERINE 3, Screen Rant poses some questions --

Wolverine 3, meanwhile, will enter production in New Orleans and New Mexico on April 25th of this year, according to My Entertainment World. The project reunites Jackman with The Wolverine director James Mangold for a storyline that might take some of its cues from the “Old Man Logan” comic book written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven – with obvious exceptions of course, since Fox only has the movie rights to certain Marvel characters featured in the “Old Man Logan” comic narrative. Jackman recently confirmed that he has received a “full script” for the project; so whatever the story is for this Wolverine romp, the broader strokes are set in stone at this stage in the film’s development.

Fox originally intended for Gambit, the X-Men movie spinoff starring Channing Tatum, to begin filming in New Orleans last year, but the project is now gearing up for a March start date after having gone through a change in director – from Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) to Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow). Wolverine 3 is currently scheduled for a March 2017 theatrical release date, but it’s not clear if the delay on Gambit will lead to a change in dates for Jackman’s latest (make that last?) trip to the X-Men cinematic universe too. It’s plausible that either Wolverine 3 or Gambit will ultimately move to August of 2017, since Fox currently does not have a major film penciled in for arrival that month; there’s not a lot of wiggle room in the summertime otherwise, as Fox has Kingsman 2 and War for the Planet of the Apes lined up to hit theaters in June and July of that year.

September of 2017 is also a possibility for either Wolverine 3 or Gambit, since Fox has yet to schedule a film for release that month; seeing as that frame is generally a weak one at the box office though, it seems unlikely that the studio would select the frame for something as lucrative as an X-Men movie. Then again, with more and more big studio movies being released throughout the year now, we may yet see Tatum’s “Ragin’ Cajun” hit the big screen in September. Similarly, Fox could decide to shift Wolverine 3 back to somewhere like the latter half of April 2017 to give it extra time for production and editing – assuming the studio doesn’t mind pitting Jackman’s superhero film against Fast 8 in theaters, anyway (and not too long before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits the scene). So maybe not, given the circumstances.

Wolverine 3 – This one’s a little uncertain since Hugh Jackman just talked to Steve about the script status on this movie while at Sundance for Eddie the Eagle. He said they were “super close” on the final script, but wouldn’t start production until it was “perfect” since it’ll be his last time donning the claws. With all that in mind, Jackman’s been hitting the gym to get back in Wolverine shape, so for his sake I hope they start soon enough to sync filming up with his grueling routine.

Hugh did mention to watch the status of his facial hair

Two to three months to get it to full growth seems like a reasonable assumption.

Besides, any futher whipping up of the script into final, final shape can be done on set - as it is not just the regular screenwriter who would be there, but James Mangold is also a known screenwriter (Kate and Leopold, Walk the Line, Girl Interrupted, etc.)

UPDATE 2/4/16: It’s official, “Wolverine” will start production in Albuquerque this April. The film is expected to shoot in New Mexico and New Orleans through late June.

That seems like a short filming schedule, if filming will really be starting on April 25 ( per the production information site MY ENTERTAINMENT WORLD).
