In the series of photos - on the right, you can see a bald-headed guy in a dark blue jacket putting his arm and hand on top of the media man's chest. On the third photo, he seemed to have put his arm around the media man and seemed to be trying to veer him away from Hugh. But it seems the media man was able to get few words from Hugh and a nice smile ( he thanked Hugh for the interview). Maybe the guy in the dark blue jacket is local security provided by the show organizers?

Hugh Jackman was a young actor and a newlywed on a budget when he first visited Istanbul 19 years ago.


"My wife and I came here shortly after we were married," he said, remembering the $25 a night hotel they stayed in and the 18-hour bus ride to the southern coast.

This week, the Oscar-nominated actor will perform his one-man stage show, An Evening with Hugh Jackman, for four nights at Istanbul's tony Zorlu Center, with ticket prices as high as $500 per seat.


He easily charmed the reporters gathered ahead of the shows by describing his Turkish "connection."


"My great-grandfather lived here," Jackman said. "He spent his life here working at a bank in Istanbul. My father … he always says you're sort of part Turkish somewhere. Maybe that's why I love the coffee so much."


Jackman gave a brief a cappella rendition of Fever and hinted at his set list saying, "There'll be some Broadway numbers … also other songs that I love. Some more about my life, and I'll be sharing stories throughout the night of some of the things people don't know about my journey … and having some fun."

The performances come just ahead of the Gallipoli campaign's centenary, which will recall the bloody 1915 battle between Ottoman and the allied forces, including Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

Jackman says the timing of his visit is a coincidence, but he added: "I think what I"m loving about what I'm hearing about this centenary is the spirit of reconciliation and the spirit of togetherness … it was a 100 years ago but very much in Australia seen as a coming of age … a very difficult time but a poignant time for Australians. So I'm very, very happy to be here at this time."

Glad to know that he was offered to come to Turkey! And he is doing it in such a fantastic performing venue. Even the press conference makes the meet-and-greet media meetings on Broadway seem low-key

Hugh has a worldwide audience in his movie career. This first overseas reprise of his one-man show is a great opportunity to further endear him (and to charm them) to that film-oriented fanbase. Not only that, he can also test how a non-English speaking ( in general) audience will respond to his talent and stage presence. Maybe this will make him think that there is a world-wide audience for his personal show after all. Dare I hope


It seems the surprise guest will be a male Turkish personality!


On a personal basis -- this must be a wonderful opportunity for Hugh and Deb ( and Ava included) to come back to a country that they were delighted to visit a very long time ago!
