Report from Turkey, via Bing translation ( these are the times when an English version of the article would have been appreciated) --

From Wikipedia --
"In 1915, during the First World War, British Empire and France attempted to capture the Ottoman capital of İstanbul and secure a sea route to Russia. Known as The Gallipoli Campaign, or the Dardanelles Campaign, in Turkey it is referred to as the Battle of Çanakkale (Turkish: Çanakkale Savaşı), when during March 1915 when the Royal Navy failed to force the Dardanelles and suffered severe losses."
Historical footnotes for the people of Turkey, Great Britain, and Australia.
Perhaps Hugh's desire to visit and perform in Istanbul at this time may have been partly influenced by a desire to trace his historical roots?

Upset about this news. Thought he sounded in good voice from the clips I heard...crazy how that could happen. Hope condition doesn't impact future singing endeavors like Greatest Showman...A bit surprised to see Dr. Korovin still on the scene after her alleged involvement in Joan River's death.

Hugh mentioned her by name in his tweet. I doubt she was there, but he apparently consulted her.

Scary. Hugh's pace has been so frenetic of late that I've wondered how he can handle it all. Let's hope this forced period of rest allows him time to heal completely.

Again, via BING translation -- an account of the first night performance written by the reviewer before the news that Hugh had to cancel the rest of the engagement for health reasons --

The show was two and a half hours in Istanbul? That's about a half hour longer than it was in its previous US incarnations. Interesting. The writer made Deb slightly older: a no-no for ladies. Kind of a bumpy translation. Better software is definitely needed. Nice review, though. Ellen

It looks like he may be on complete vocal rest, prescribed or voluntary on his part ? This is his response to a government initiative for closure of aboriginal communities in Western Australia, which he chose to give via a written response rather than physically speaking out. Jo

Maybe the above photo of Hugh responding to the aboriginal communities issue may not be indicative that he has to be or opted to be on complete vocal rest? Here's another response to the issue, also similarly expressed via a written message (Please scroll down) --

Is that Anna Paquin above? New Zealand (where she was raised) has aboriginal communities, too.

(46 + 13 = 59) She will be 60 this year (me too! Ahhhh!) Nancy

Sorry carousekathy..I could only just now get online. I was referring to what suefb said that he mentions in his tweet that she was consulted. She was Joan Rivers' physician who was implicated in the botched procedure. At that time there was a lot of reference to the fact that she was "Hugh Jackman's voice doctor.". Guess she still knows his vocal chords better than anyone!

Guess she still knows his vocal chords better than anyone! I'm concerned about this vocal chord injury. It will get better if he rests his voice completely, so I hope that's the plan. If his doctor was implicated in Joan Rivers botched surgery, that's scary. Hugh may have to bow out of some projects if he hopes to begin THE GREATEST SHOWMAN in September. I just watched the 50th Anniversary special for the film THE SOUND OF MUSIC, in which Julie Andrews mentions the botched surgery that ended her singing career. This is a serious condition, not to be treated lightly. Rest your voice, Hugh.

I think Julie Andrews had a benign tumor removed, so that differs from Hugh's case. I'm thinking more of Rod McKuen, a rock singer who blew out his vocal chords and ended up permanently hoarse. His story ended happily, though--he became a poet-performer, who had hit albums with his newer, more gravely but quieter, contemplative recordings. Hugh appears to have heeded advice to go on immediate vocal rest. So I'm hopeful. We'll see.

I guess we're all anxious for Hugh. I looked up online layman-friendly medical articles on the subject of "injury to vocal folds/ cords" so as to be a bit familiar on what it means and how it is treated. This one looks like a good one for laymen. www.voicedoctorla.com/vocal-hemorrhage/I am hopeful that he went to see a specialist as soon as the problem emerged and had the beniefit of an early diagnosis ( together with his voice doctor in NYC - amazing how these things can now be done with the aid of technology, whose test results/scans are now easily sent online to the other end). If it had been fairly or really serious, maybe he would have flown back to NYC right away for more expert treatment...but he chose to stay in Istanbul until Saturday according to reports. Also, according to reports from Turkey( although the rough translation may be wrong), it seems he was advised to undergo treatment for two weeks, after which he might be able to have a normal schedule ( not sure if this includes the singing though)...His message saying he will back to Istanbul to fulfill his engagements is probably premised on his condition diagnosed as not being very serious. He may be expected to return to filming for Eddie the Eagle next week - I guess if he still needs to observe vocal rest/treatment, they will shoot around him. Or maybe do the physical action ( acting) and simply do a dubbing later on? After this month, filming will then move to the UK for another month. Hope he takes good care of himself! The art can wait.
