According to Jeff Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere --
If true --
A bit comedic ... I am not entirely sure that this is the right time for it. The Best Picture award is the main award of the Oscars and the film which wins it deserves serious attention and not just be a part of a laughable moment. Just my own thoughts.

How did the cast get to sing at the Oscars ( they don't usually allow musical interludes other than for Best Original Song or the Host's Opening and mid-program musical numbers)? They took the slot for SUDDENLY ( which was nominated for Best Original Song) and blended in ONE DAY MORE, which was able to feature the major cast. Can they do that with THIS IS ME this time? Hmmm... that might be very difficult but we can always hope Jo

Interesting detailed comments from a lady member ( no age given) of the 1218-member of the Actors Branch of the AMPAS ( total voting members of 7258) on what and why she would or has voted for each category -- www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/brutally-honest-oscar-ballot-get-filmmakers-played-race-card-just-sick-meryl-streep-1090440/item/best-production-design-2018-brutally-honest-oscar-ballot-2-1090490Re the films involving Hugh Jackman -- Lol - she seems to have misunderstood what the genre can stand for. Maybe she never even saw the first XMen movie - which re-established the moribund comic-book movie genre -- there was not much comedic or fun about it, maybe except for witty one-liners esp from Wolverine. Maybe with her mindset of what the genre stands for, it will never advance to award-quality recognition? Her vote reflects public sentiment, compared to how the movie press has been trying to lionize Remember Me ( no offense meant, but from just what I have observed). I wonder if FOX submitted the movie for awards consideration, if it would have its fair share of AMPAS fans? Jo

*Giggle* That is for Pasek and Paul to decide, as Keala herself is not nominated for an Oscar

I didn't know that the Production Designer of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, Nathan Crowley, was nominated for Production Design for another movie (Dunkirk). He also designed and received nominations for many Nolan films like THE PRESTIGE, Dark Knight and Interstellar.
SHOWMAN did have a first-class creative team!

Bravo to Roger Deakins! First win for cinematography after 14 nominations!
He shared his talent in cinematography in PRISONERS!

Did anybody else cry ... like I did ... when Keala and company sang THIS IS ME It was not just the song and its message -- it was what this film project meant to so many From Hugh to Michael to Benj and Justin to Keala... to Zac, Michelle, Rebecca, and Zendaya ... and everybody else involved in all these years of commitment and dedication! Standing ovation!

I second your grrrr.
COCO was a very popular and well-reviewed movie. Every voter received a screener. That’s what clinched it, I think.

But look at the audience reactions to the song presentations!
Maybe some members who voted for the winner now feel sorry.
Have you seen many people singing REMEMBER ME ( covers, concerts, house talent, toddlers, teeners, mature people)?

I second your grrrr. COCO was a very popular and well-reviewed movie. Every voter received a screener. That’s what clinched it, I think. Ellen Robert Lopez is of Filipino ancestry ( that is why his surname is Lopez) but his and his wife's work on REMEMBER ME is not a song that ticks the boxes along with other previous winners, no matter that the film itself is a fan favorite! And... yes, THIS IS ME should have been seen in the context of the movie. FOX did not send out screeners -- so they must be kicking themselves if the voters never saw the movie. Some may not have had the opportunity to go to a cinema to view the film. Jo

At least the Best Actor win went to Gary Oldman!
Not an immigrant, not a Mexican, not gay, not black, not a Me-Too advocate ( as those qualifications seemed to have been tagged to many of the key wins) ... no offense meant, but why has the Oscars forgotten its original reason for being -- to recognize filmmaking excellence and artistry regardless of where they came from or what they represent! It's alright to see more diverse acknowledgement of talent and achievement ... but it should not be because there is a feeling of self-entitlement for certain sectors who feel that they are under-represented.

Frances McDormand won for her extraordinary performance ( second one since FARGO)... even if her acceptance speech exhorted the feminist theme. This is how it should be done! Not during the campaigning.
