I remember Keala saying that she would most like to impress Meryl Streep ( or words to that effect) -- and she did! One of the first to stand up after Keala and company performed was that lady in red in the middle of the front row!

Not an immigrant, not a Mexican, not gay, not black, not a Me-Too advocate ( as those qualifications seemed to have been tagged to many of the key wins) ... no offense meant, but why has the Oscars forgotten its original reason for being -- to recognize filmmaking excellence and artistry regardless of where they came from or what they represent! It's alright to see more diverse acknowledgement of talent and achievement ... but it should not be because there is a feeling of self-entitlement for certain sectors who feel that they are under-represented.

Immigrant - in the sense of minority immigrants who feel marginalized.


This post says it all -- that Hollywood was wearing its political agenda on its sleeve, to the extent that it honors what is meant to be filmmaking artistry with factors that support its political views.

Did Guillermo del Toro and Shape of Water win presumably because of the ancestry of the film auteur ( he comes from Guadalajara, Mexico) ... and not because it was the Best Picture ( based on a whimsical remake of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, as many lampoon it).

Early indications are that this telecast lost some 17% of its ratings compared to the previous year ( with the same host).

Alex Lacamoire is the Exec Music Producer for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. If his name sounds familiar, he is also the multi-awarded music man ( orchestrations/arrangements/etc) behind HAMILTON, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, and other Broadway projects. He has been called LMMiranda's closest music collaborator and has also worked closely with Pasek and Paul.

He's part of the reason why we got the superb soundtrack from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN!
