He and the winner of the first prize actually sang a couple of bars of "New York, New York" at the very end.
Spent way too long in the sun, but it was worth it. We got to greet Hugh - he actually was headed in the opposite direction after the media blitz, but turned around especially to acknowledge us. Very sweet.
We had a really good view way up front. Hugh was bursting with his usual abundant charm and energy, amazing considering that Deb said they'd only just arrived home today and had only about four hours' sleep!
Deb looked perky, too. How do they do that?
They're leaving next week for six months away. Don't worry about Dali. His vet is nuts about him and is taking him in.
Aw.
What a truly likable couple they are. (Dali was there, not the kids.)
Added plus: they showed past Tropfest films, too, including UNCLE JONNY.
My favorite film didn't win, but they were all very interesting.

it was a great night. Hugh looked sooooo handsome. Deb was pretty and graciously came over to say hello and chat for a hot minute. The whole family is headed down under very soon for 5-6 months! Maybe we will get some Bondi Beach photos.

Thanks, Ellen and Annette I was hoping you guys would be there and would share some sidelights! Six months -- I guess that includes their supposed holiday in Thailand and the shoot of The Wolverine. Hopefully, he might be back in NYC/LA to start the promotion of Les Miserables, maybe in late November or early December?? It seems they will be in Australia for the holidays, including the Sydney premiere of Les Miserables? Any chance of unofficial clips of "New York, New York" PS: Glad they showed Uncle Jonny - the crowd must have been surprised when the host showed up on the film onstage ;D Jo

Yes, I think the six months includes their family vacation in Thailand first. And the crowd applauded and "whoo-hoo'd" when Hugh appeared in that brief swimming pool in scene in UNCLE JONNY. (After the film, Hugh made a funny remark about how strange it was to be in a movie without a shirt on.)
The "NY, NY" bit was very brief--the maker of the winning film knew only a few lyrics--and only came about because he said he Googled Hugh and learned that he sings, too, and that his B'way show "made the most money." Not surprisingly,he was not as well informed about Hugh as we are. Imagine that! But his acceptance speech was sweet. He had his mother on speaker phone ("Mom, yes, I WON!" Hugh said it was the best acceptance speech he'd ever heard. Nice moment.
I'm hoping for some nice beach pics, too. Does Thailand have paps? If not, maybe a few in Australia.

I may get myself in trouble here, but I do feel uneasy about pap photos when Hugh is on vacation with the family. If he's working or at a public event, pap pictures are a fact of life. However, when with family, he should be left alone...unless it's a public event.
Paps are leeches and becoming way too aggressive. Some innocent bystander is going to get knocked down and hurt one of these days just so they can get a photo. What if that someone is Oscar or Ava? What if Dali gets stepped on? As long as we keep going to their source websites, they'll continue their rude and dangerous behavior.
Here in California, it is now illegal for them to follow anyone in a car or to go to anyone's home.
I'm not judging anyone here. I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I enjoy pictures too. I just think the paps that take them are evil, and we need to be careful about too many hits on their websites.

When the sole Aussie to win a prize at Saturday's TropFest NY spoke, Hugh said he could tell she was from Melbourne, and he and Deb were trying to pinpoint which block, LOL. Shades of Henry Higgins!

Yes, too bad they didn't continue past the first couple of bars. The prizewinner didn't know the lyrics. Hugh probably didn't continue as a solo because, wisely, he knew this was the filmmaker's moment to shine, and, ever classy, he let him radiate in his win. Or maybe Hugh didn't know them, either. That would not surprise me. Ellen

Not really an advocacy, but I didn't know where else to put it. Just saw on TV that Hugh has been named as the third most trusted Aussie in an annual Readers' Digest survey. The first two were eminent surgeons, one of whom is a former Australian of the Year. There'll probably be more about it in google alerts later. www.readersdigest.com.au/

Hugh lends his support and presence to the Actors Centre in Sydney, at a special book launching and inauguration of online acting programme. I am not too sure, but didn't he go to the Actors Centre for a year, before he went to WAAPA? www.actorscentre.com.au/VIP%20EVENT%20HUGH%20JACKMAN

". . . Hugh and Deb planted two coffee trees at the back of Ducale’s hut and named them after their kids, Oscar and Eva. They promised to bring them to Ducale’s farm in a few years. Two families separated by global extremes, so different and yet all part of the one humanity, celebrating joy and family. Hope always springs to mind whenever I smell coffee. . ." Short article by someone who apparently went on this trip -- www.probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2012/07/hope-can-be-found-unexpected-places#

Yes, and in his Gucci boots. But we ALL know what a giving person Hugh is. That's what makes him, him, and his acting is not the only thing that make us love him. It's that REAL person inside of him, that truly makes him a wonderful grateful human being. He gives back so much!!
