Hugh has announced his new concert series in Australia: *It will be based on Back on Broadway, but with a much larger cast and a bigger production. Cast of 150!
*It will open in Melbourne on Nov 24 and followed by other cities (Brisbane,Sydney,Adelaide) and will close in Perth on Dec 15. It will only be for 8 concert dates -- so expect an early sellout. I remember that they sold 100,000 tickets during the first hour of ticket sales for the combined ticket venues in 2006!
*The show will be directed by Patrick Vacariello. Robert Fox is again producing the show. for the Dainty Group.
Sorry, I still can't provide the links but Google can take care of that.
I have a feeling that he is using this prelude to pave the way for filming of Greatest Showman supposedly happening in Oz after Wolv-3. Like a huge audition!
Also, could this be the reason for dropping out of Collateral beauty?
Hugh has the rest of Dec & Jan to prepare for Wolv3!

Hugh made the announcement in the company of Deb and Ava. He sang I Still Call Australia Home. It will include reminiscences about his Wolverine days. It will only be an 8-date concert series.

Tickets go on sale on August 31 via Ticketek.
It's going to be harrowing again trying to get excellent seats if we go by our experience of the 2006 Arena tour. I won't be able to go (sad face) -- I'm booked to go elsewhere the previous month. Is Paris for 2 weeks consolation enough -- maybe not enough, but I'll try to trace the footsteps of Jean Valjean to make up for not seeing his film representation in person! C'est LA vie!

How happy he looks when talking about the show. I hope his countrymen (and countrywomen) make it a sold-out tour despite the abrupt notice. Maybe his next show in NY should be called BROADWAY TO OZ AND BACK AGAIN. I guess this means the kids will be attending school in Australia during the fall semester. Ellen

Thanks for posting that. What a good interview. I've been wondering whether he's been asked to do TV, given that so much of TV today is full of quality material that outshines that of many features. But it seems he's not quite ready to commit, hmmm? Would love to see him do a limited series such as TRUE DETECTIVE.

I've been wondering the same thing, Ellen, especially given the increasing fluidity with which "A-listers" these days go from TV to film to stage performance. In the meantime, if all the cinematic projects he's now "attached to" or "developing" go through, I'm trying to wrap my head around his filming schedule! Need Jo to figure it out- haha Thanks for posting that. What a good interview. Anyone from here thinking of going? I think it will be fabulous. A whole different perspective, since he will be on his Home Turf - among his "peers" so to speak. I would love to see this! That said, I only thought about the show for a few minutes, and then I thought about the fact that it was much too HOT for me in Sept '06. A trip Down Under in Nov/Dec would not be enjoyable for me at all. Just saved myself a few thousand bucks. I hope some of you go. I will look forward to hearing all about it.

Just wondering -- as this will be a musical retrospective for him -- will he include numbers from Beauty and the Beast & Sunset Boulevard for this particular production? I'd love to see/hear(assuming we get some bootleg clips) him perform something from those two shows which introduced him to musical theatre. I know he is usually reluctant to film his shows, but a live cast recording will not detract from any future repeats of the show in other countries that may be interested to host Hugh!

The Melbourne show will be held at the Rod Laver Arena ( tennis, anyone *grin*) -- isn't that a 10,000 to 12,000-seater stadium? But that was where he held TBFO tour in 2006! Sounds like a grand party -- and if I know the Aussie crowds --they are going to be up for it!
I remember several incidents showing the Aussie love for Hugh -- *in one show in Sydney, an elegantly dressed woman simply walked up the stage in the middle of a number to give Hugh a hug! She was led away by security without fuss. *In one curtain call, a mature woman on the front row approached the stage (it was low) and touched his shoes *In another curtain call, a very beautiful young woman who looked like a model gave out several loud wolf whistles as Hugh came out for curtain call! *During one show, Hugh went down behind the first few rows where there was a free lane. Upon reaching the stage he was grinning when he said: "I've never been so mugged in my life."
Exuberant Aussies!

Presumably the Aussie aboriginal community will be part of the show -- will Oscar join them to play the didgeridoo if he is in school in Sydney or Melbourne? Also, hopefully, Hugh will restore the part of the TBFO segment which he deleted from the LA and Istanbul shows. After all, this is Petrer Allen country! I wish I could go!

I wish the producers would finally record the show in some form for DVD/Blu-ray. I know there are numerous costs involved, but wouldn't they be lower in Oz than in the US? And anyway, it's about time.

I have a feeling that it is Hugh himself who is reluctant to record the shows ( TBFO and Back on Broadway) because maybe he hopes to take the show to other places ( e.g., London) and a DVD/BluRay may not encourage people from seeing the show live. Even a straight play like A Steady Rain was kept strictly off-limits even for unofficial recording because there were plans for a film adaptation then.

Thanks for the link, hughmanity When he sings the song in front of the Qantas Chorus, I am reminded of that moment in Sydney when we joined in the singing of the song ( I felt "Aussie" at that moment!) and then a huge, huge flag was unfurled over our heads and passed on to the back. Joyous but poignant moment! Jo

He's always appreciative of the people who help him in his public appearances ( although I wouldn't mind applying for those jobs, if I had the skills ) -- He posted a correction --

If anyone is interested in getting tickets, there is more information on the TICKETEK site -- premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=HUGHJACK15It looks like there will be pre-sale on August 27 ( regular sale starts on August 31) for QANTAS Frequent-Flyer program members. No preferential seating, but assurance of getting tickets. Tour venues and concert dates -- Two dates each for Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane; one date each for Adelaide and Perth. It seems that the Qantas Credit Union Arena is the same Sydney Entertainment Center where the 2006 arena tour was held. www.qantascreditunionarena.com.au/Venue/Getting-Here.aspxJo

As usual, Australia's TODAY SHOW gets an exclusive interview by Richard Wilkins -- www.9jumpin.com.au/show/today/videos/4442154793001/Interesting response from Hugh as to how he views his career. Richard said there were no lows and that it keeps going up and up. Hugh says modestly that it is steady! His pragmatic assessment is probably due to his versatility and the ability to move from one type of entertainment to another. He has many platforms from which to showcase his talent! Here he was supposed to be on a long holiday break ( while waiting for the call of the PAN promotion caravan) and yet he was planning to organize the concert series behind the scenes. Also, he was in Australia partly to prepare for the filming of Wolverine 3 which is due for filming sometime in February. On the side, he was having "early conversations" about taking another superhero role ( but from the time of antiquity), that of Odysseus ( aka Ulysses) from that time of thousands of years ago and poeticized in the narrative by Homer! What versatility! Jo

I think their time together in Les Miserables cemented the friendship bond!
