Here's Act Two - "Peter" really knows how to make an entrance! smiley-happy036 Just FYI - Act Two has "gone missing" - hope this means the audio sync problems are being fixed and it will reappear soon.

A much clearer clip of THIS IS ME -- except for the first part which misses Hugh's initial lyrics and his presence on stage, otherwise this is an excellent clip. The song and staging ( choreography, costumes, set) evoke a Broadway showstopper -- although we know that it is meant for the big screen! I love this number, unabashedly Everytime he raises his right arm and right leg rhythmically together, I feel like doing the same thing -- it is so engaging -- LOL! Jo

Hooray! And thanks for posting the new clip of "This is Me" . I lIke to revisit it. I find it rousing, anthemic, and Hugh's performance is spot on.

I have watched and rewatched the Jason Hill Brisbane video a number of times. What struck me in particular is the coincidence that my three most favorite numbers were performed in sequence by Hugh -- probably keeping the mood of the genre in particular. For they are songs that strengthen characterizations and help advance the story! Yes, it is musical theater heaven ( and I do think the inspirational song meant for a film adaptation is really musical theatre-inspired!) smiley-love067
At around the 30-minute mark --
*The SOLILOQUY of Billy Bigelow from CAROUSEL
*THIS IS ME from the forthcoming movie GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH
*The SOLILOQUY of Jean Valjean from LES MISERABLES
Hugh performs Billy's musical monologue ( aka SOLILOQUY) in this version with even stronger acting moments! He seemed to have become more a like a storyteller emphasizing elements as they resonate in real life. It is certainly different from various vocal interpretations of musical ( film and stage) artists where the glory of certain notes is more celebrated than the realism of Billy's lot! A father expecting a child for the first time, after a life that is more self-indulgent compared to a parent's self-sacrificing outlook. It is a song full of self-discovery about the wonders of parenthood and the implications on his own selflessness! Great musical theater aria, but made more spectacular by the voyage of discovery by a prospective Papa Billy! But it is also a poignant foreshadowing of what will happen to Billy as he approaches fatherhood and what he needs to do to be worthy of it! That is why Hugh's portrayal which emphasizes the acting is rendered more poignant!
THIS IS ME, as the song implies, is meant to be sung by people " who are different" and who should " be proud of it", rather than " be ashamed of it"! That contemporary theme completely resonates with the world's perspective now ( compared to the past). But it is a universal theme now finding more popular appeal -- and the lyrics are very resonant! Hopefully, when the film is made, that Hugh will be able to sing it, too, even if it is just a reprise! Unless the staging can be re-interpreted. Hugh must have loved the new song because he chose to introduce it in his concert series! Looking forward to that moment in the movie ( even if it is going to be a long wait!).
Finally, Hugh has elevated a hitherto "hidden" song from the original stage production of LES MISERABLES to one that has one SAG ( Screen Actors Guild) member proclaiming that the SOLILOQUY of Jean Valjean as interpreted by Hugh Jackman was his Oscar-moment! Definitely! In previous live productions, the song was either rushed, sung unintelligibly, or even dismissively by many stage Valjeans! I think that was a flaw in the staging originally conceived by Trevor Nunn ( sorry, no offense meant!)... What Tom Hooper and Hugh did was to go back to the Victor Hugo passages and give that moment in Valjean's life the greatest importance. For that is the second epiphany that V. Hugo writes of in Valjean's life! In Cosette he found love, in his self-discovery ( made possible because of the Bishop's kindness) he found virtue! We already had the most wonderful film interpretation by Hugh ... but it could also evoke those film moments when he sings it on stage!
I really wish we could get a professionally-filmed version of the concert, if only for those three wonderful vocal intepretations and portrayals by Hugh! The close-ups of Hugh's face and body language can further enrich what has been heard from his powerful and tender vocals ( in the Hill video). I knew I felt that way when I saw his Back on Broadway rendition up close a number of times -- it made the portrayal even more heartfelt and impressive!

MACK THE KNIFE in Perth!
Re the handshaking -- I do remember he also did that with the front row at the Broadhurst for this penultimate number. In my last performance to see the show, I was seated on the edge of the second row center section, but it was practically front row since there was no seat in front of me. When he started shaking the hands from the front row, I also rose and extended my hand for a fleeting touch of his hand. When I came back to my seat, the man seated next to my companion squealed in delight and insisted that I also shake his hand because mine had touched Hugh's -LOL! The man was obviously a big fan and had the loudest laugh everytime Hugh said or did something funny! Hugh had once looked at him for his great show of appreciation!

Another Perth video clip -- view from underneath the flag!
It's obviously the most emotional song for the audience! Ironically, it is a song for Aussies ( or anyone who has left home) who have left to live in other places!

I never came across this article from NYPost during the run of BACK ON BROADWAY, but it features members of the aboriginal community who make SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW special. nypost.com/2011/11/29/hughs-didgeri-dudes/They also share some impressions about their experience while performing onstage --

What's up with Warren Carlyle ? He is doing the choreography of the much anticipated revival of HELLO DOLLY, with Bette Midler, due to arrive on Broadway in the spring of 2017 -- www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-suskin/aisle-view-hello-bette_b_9017266.htmlThat is going to be a fabulous job for Warren! I saw HELLO DOLLLY in its last months on Broadway a very long time ago...but what is more vivid in my mind was the film adaptation with Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau. Those are fabulous choreography numbers, especially the famous title song number! Jo

Let's hope "The Waiters' Gallop" doesn't become The Waiters' Bounce. (Sorry, couldn't resist--and I actually got a kick out of that homage to Bobby Van.)

Warren's name is also listed as CHOREOGRAPHER in DECEPTION -- www.imdb.com/title/tt0800240/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_smI guess I do not know much of filmmaking, as I have no idea what a choreographer does for a completely dramatic film. I can understand the use of a choreographer in an action movie ( fight choreography) but I cannot recall much of that happening in DECEPTION. Jo

Perhaps he choreographed the movements of the dancing women in the strip club scene? It's been a while since I've seen it so I can't quite remember what they did.
