It looks like I am not the only with some wishful thinking about the album  www.lemonwade.com/2016/05/16/who-will-sing-with-streisand-2/I'd love Barbra and Hugh to sing THE PERFECT YEAR from SUNSET BOULEVARD. Or even better, TOO MUCH IN LOVE TO CARE from the same musical. Barbra was the very first one to release two of the iconic songs from SUNSET ("With One Look" and "As If We Never Said Goodbye"). Jo |

Jo, I saw your BWW post on this. I apprecaite your wish list! But not Brad/Angie or Denzel (not singers). And I'd substitute Scarlett Johansson, who has released an album, for Jennifer Lawrence. Agreed, it would be perfect if Hugh would revisit SUNSET, if only for a one-off with Barb, who was supposedly attached to a SUNSET film years ago that never came to be. But I doubt that will happen. I get the feeling he'd rather forget about the Oz production of SUNSET; and their schedules probably would not easily align anyway. She might choose someone like Seth McFarlane, who does well-received concert tours.

LOL -- my only wish list is Hugh Jackman! Those other choices are the blogger's I do remember that time ( circa 2003) at the defunct Broadway.com message board ( the forerunner of BWW forum) that there was some discussion about a film adaptation of Sunset Boulevard. Barbra was supposed to be in talks with Andrew Lloyd Webber ( and it was said that it was the reason why ALW allowed Babs to be the first to release two songs from the show, even before the musical opened in London)...but contentious issues about artistic control ( Babs wanted to direct it) caused the talks to bog down. However, someone did post that Babs wanted only one leading man for the project - Hugh Jackman! I think that was before that party at her house where Hugh and Deb were invited together with Oprah, etc. I wonder what caused Hugh to supposedly say ( he never confirmed this in public), as supposedly related by Debra Byrne through a friend, that he would not be interested in a film adaptation of Sunset Boulevard? That is strange -- I know that the stage musical had a rough time in Australia but did something happen personally to Hugh there? Sunset Boulevard itself is a film noir classic by Billy Wilder and yielded a Best Picture and 4 acting Oscar nods ( plus others )for the movie. The musical, while controversial, had the largest advance history on Broadway then. It won the TONY for Best Musical, among others. It was one of ALWebber's most admired musical scores ( he actually said it was the most complete musical that he has ever written). And the two duets from the show which I mentioned would be practically perfect for Barbra and Hugh! Sigh! Btw, the one who has tweeted about a past singing occurrence with Barbra was an actress from Star Wars ( Daisy-something). But definitely Scarlett Johansson, if that can be arranged. Yay! A track with Hugh. I was about to get apoplectic at the sight of Alec Baldwin's name---what, Baldwin and no Hugh??? Then it popped up. Oh, yeah!

Jerome Kern wrote a song called ANY MOMENT NOW and it was sung by Deanna Durbin. Could that be the one? Ellen? Whatever it is -- and Barbra can make an obscure song really memorable -- I am excited because she is going to do the duet with Hugh  Jo |

I'm glad it's a different "Any Moment Now." The one from the Deanna Durbin film is a bit sappy. I've seen a concert performance of SMILE, but as the story above indicates, this particular "Any Moment Now" is from an unproduced version of the show. So for all intents and purposes, it's a new song. I have high hopes.
I wonder whether the co-stars had any say in the song selections. We know HJ has sung "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" in a school production of MY FAIR LADY, but Chris Pine got that one.
I hope Hugh's recording segment was captured on video, too, as was Ridley's.

Some theatre purists want Barbra to sing the songs " with real Broadway stars"! And they also want a different set of songs.

The theme chosen is about MOVIE PARTNERS SING BROADWAY -- and it is really the choice of the artist what she wishes to be the exponent of! If her artistic intention is to feature movie actors is because she says that she approaches the song from an "acting point of view, from a dramatic point of view", then it makes perfect sense whom she sings with!
Why do these musical theatre purists always insist on their "stars" to be front and center?! Let them record their own albums!
And I hope they are not including Hugh Jackman and Patrick Wilson among those they are critical of, as choices for singing partners! They are Broadway stars!
Also, they say that they dislike how Barbra changes the melodies/arrangements. But that has been her style for decades now. That is why she is a real artistic diva! With her singing style, it is take it or leave it.
Btw, she must love the TV movie EVENING PRIMROSE, with music by Stephen Sondheim. She is recording another song from it, TAKE ME TO THE WORLD with Antonio Banderas. Years ago, for her second Christmas album, she recorded my favorite Sondheim song I REMEMBER (SKY), and had even asked Sondheim to rewrite parts of the lyrics to suit the holiday mood.

Those would-be tastemakers on theater sites drive me batty. No one but their favorites can do justice to any song, hmmm? I'd have thought Patrick Wilson would be viewed more as a stage performer, but then he had that unexpected horror movie hit THE CONJURER a while ago; its sequel is about to open. So I guess he's finally become a "movie" guy.
I also love the score to EVENING PRIMROSE. As a teen I remember watching it on TV as part of the Stage 67 series on ABC-TV (I was a big fan of Tony Perkins'.) "I Remember Sky" is indeed beautiful, plaintive and full of longing. "Take Me to the World" is sweet, too--although as I recall, there was not a happy ending for Tony and the young lady who sings those two songs.
Really looking forward to hearing this album!

LOL - it looks like same factors shaped our taste when we were much younger, Ellen *Evening Primrose! I like I Remember Sky because of Sondheim's lyrics -- it gives the song such a poignant message...yet, it did sound Christmassy enough ( I guess it is the image of the snow flakes falling) to be included in Babs's holiday album. *Tony Perkins - aha! I even went to see him on Broadway in that Neil Simon play ( The Goodbye Girl, if I recall right). But one of my favorite movies of him was when he was introduced to the moviegoing public in that movie about a Quaker family. I can't remember the name now, but I also loved Pat Boone singing Friendly Persuasion. EDIT: Lol - the title is actually called Frriendly Persuasion! I saw the first movie of The Conjuring on TV ( it is actually rated R, but did over $ 300 million worldwide). ...with the second one coming up, the series is practically becoming a franchise |

Some sites are erroneously reporting that Hugh's duet is the famous one called ANY MOMENT from INTO THE WOODS - the song when Prince Charming cheats on Cinderella with The Baker's Wife, if I am not mistaken Babs sings Sondheim in the album but it is TAKE ME TO THE WORLD (Evening Primrose) and LOVING YOU ( Passion) I am surprised that there is no song from Andrew Lloyd Webber. She premiered WITH ONE LOOK and AS IF WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE in her album called "Back to Broadway". She has also sung MEMORY ( no relation to her famous song with starts with " Memories..." . called The Way We Were). She didn't hear me when I pleaded for her and Hugh to sing TOO MUCH IN LOVE TO CARE from Sunset Boulevard There's her favorite composer and collaborator Hamlisch...and Sondheim, Newley, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe. |

Hugh is supposed to wrap up filming of Wolverine 3 by August 19 -- I suppose if he is really in talks to sing with Barbra live ( Deb will never forgive him if he doesn't ) -- he is already making arrangements to take those days off ( Aug 11 is a Thursday and Aug 13 is a Saturday). Hope somebody captures any possible Hugh appearance on video! Or if Barbra-Hugh fans are lucky, she might release the concert on video! I bet if she does, she will chose her Brooklyn concerts for that special DVD/BluRay release. She already has non-singing footages with each star she sings with, so that is half of the work done. Jo |

Here's another scoop from the album -- this time, Barbra sings with the late Anthony Newley through the magic of technology and the hard work of her team.
When he was still alive, the revival of THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT - THE SMELL OF THE CROWD was a project that the late Gerry Schoenfeld was pushing Hugh to do. He would have sung this song if that had happened.
