Another nod to Roger from Hugh -- after Roger's speech. Another beautiful scene as Roger sat on the bench and obviously crying. Rafa Nadal ( who played with Roger in the doubles for Roger's last ever competitive match) -- who was seated next to him started crying, too. They have had such a very long rivalry ( their Wimbledon 2009 5-set finals is called the Greatest Tennis Match ever) and a strong friendship, even sharing some advocacies. On an amusing note, when Rafa won the Australian Grand Slam, Roger who had a streak of Australian titles, started crying... Rafa ended up consoling his rival Jo

Testing my Spanish - to encourage Rafa to be ready for Roland Garros ( he has been injured since the Australian Open and has not played in any tournaments)
But it is Roland Garros - so ---

For the first time since 2004, Rafa Nadal will not be playing at Roland Garros this year He has won the title 14 times there - a record that is near-impossible to beat. But he said he will take time to heal his ailing body, return to tennis at yearends's Davis Cup...and maybe to Roland Garros in 2024, which could be his last year playing tennis. He wants to do a farewell tour of the courts where he has played. Because of his achievements in this tournament, a metal statue of Rafa Nadal, stands tall with a tennis raquet in fierce motion at Roland Garros! Jo

Sounds like what Hugh said at the closing show of THE MUSIC MAN.

Anybody follow Formula 1?
The current champion looks like he will repeat the feat this year. But not many know that when he was young, Max Verstappen already knew Michael Schumacher. The 2 families (Michael & Jos used to drive in the same team) were great friends and enjoyed many vacations together as well as go-kart races.
Max is considered a generational talent... Michael's talent must have rubbed off on Mad Max.

Wimbledon has a new champion!
Carlos Alcaraz, only just turned 20, has defeated Novak Djokovic for the title.
Hugh and Deb were guests of Novak Djokovic and invited to sit in their box.

*Spanish royalty have always supported Spanish tennis players when they are in a key final. *Hugh must have been invited to the Wimbledon Club as not everyone can have access to it, maybe via Nole Djokovic? Hugh is a tennis player ( we have also seen him at the US Open) -- so this must have been a different kind of thrill compared to all the other celebs who showed up? I wonder if Hugh plays lefty? Jo

Hugh is also great friends with Roger Federer--
*They were also invited to sit once at Federer's box, also at one of the Grand Slam finals
*When Hugh was on TMTMTS tour, Roger & Mirka Federer attended the concert. The following day, the Federers hosted the entire troupe at their place in Zurich for lunch.
Hugh loves sports!

Maybe you've heard about how a generational talent is making F-1 racing boring to non-Red Bull fans because Max Verstappen is practically winning everything (Practice sesssions/Quali/Sprint/Race).

This is the most joyous interpretation of 76 TROMBONES ever - with famous violinist/orchestra leader ANDRE RIEU at the helm.
If you're wondering what is he doing on this thread --
Rieu, who is Dutch, conducted the Opening ceremony of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort!
And what a sporting day!
*It was at one of the most interesting Grand Prix - at Zandvoort in Holland -- on the sand dunes by the sea!
*It rained on and off - and some drivers had to change tires 6 times as it poured, drizzled, the sun shone behind the clouds and rained again. One car was aquaplaning ( when a car is being carried by the water and the driver is no longer in control).
*Some DNFs ( did not finish) and 2 Red Flags
*The King of the Netherlands was in attendance...
*Because on that festive day -- the most festive atmosphere you can find in any Grand Prix - a party throughout despite the pouring rain with people dancing as the rain drizzled down, orange smoke bombs. and the Orange Army of Max Verstappen to cheer for him.
*And he did not disappoint because -- he matched a 10-year old record!
