While waiting for the second trailer -- this is an interesting YouTube blog on the reaction to the first trailer. The reactions to the trailer are contextualized in terms of Barnum's actual life story -- but the emphasis is on the drive and hard work that the entrepreneur in him went through on the road to success. There are many historical glimpses on who Barnum was and relating how Hollywood has used that to create the musical biopic. They did their homework and appreciate the themes that this movie is focused on!





I like their comment about Hugh Jackman being such a force in front of a film camera!

Let's revisit Hugh's version where he introduced the new song to the public, but in the context of the forthcoming movie musical --





The audio is not great (and it can take a while to get to the song which starts at a little past 42'40") but it is worthwhile listening to another musical interpretation of this potential Oscar nominee for Best Song.

The Tony nominee appears in the upcoming movie musical, starring Hugh Jackman and featuring songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Additional artists have been announced for Darren Criss' third annual Elsie Fest. The music festival, featuring stars of stage and screen, will be held October 8 at Central Park’s Summer Stage.


As previously reported, Criss will headline along with Glee co-star Lea Michele (Spring Awakening) and Tony winner Alan Cumming (Cabaret). Ingrid Michaelson, Norm Lewis, Jeremy Jordan, and Moana's Auli’i Cravalho will also perform.
Newly announced for the annual event are Tony nominee Keala Settle (soon to be seen on screen in The Greatest Showman), cast members of Broadway's Miss Saigon (including Tony nominee Eva Noblezada and Alistair Brammer), and Drama Desk nominee Ari’el Stachel and Etai Benson of The Band’s Visit.

Settle will perform the original song “This Is Me” from the upcoming film, which features an original score by Oscar and Tony Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Stachel and Benson will perform “Haled’s Song About Love” and “Papi Hears the Ocean” from the new musical The Band’s Visit, which begins performances October 7 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.


Z100’s Elvis Duran will host the one-day outdoor music festival. Attendees can expect surprise guests and performances.
Elsie Fest is co-founded and executive-produced by Criss, Ricky Rollins, Jordan Roth, and Dr. Sidney J. Stern. Elsie Fest is a Bowery Presents production. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Wkipedia incorrectly reports that the playdate for SHOWMAN was postponed from 2016 to 2017 because of the release of LA LA LAND. The above account from H'wood Reporter which came out in September 2015 suggested that it was due to the priority given to WOLVERINE 3/LOGAN because it had an announced release date of March 2017.

Now two " drama" movies are joining the movie musical for a Christmas Day release. Previously announced was PHANTOM THREAD ( with DDLewis) ... and now the Sorkin-directed movie with Jessica Chastain called MOLLY'S GAME.
