Ruby had a chance to talk to Hugh at the Live-read -- Yessssssssssss !!! People are getting very antsy that the second trailer is very long in coming...although I hear there will be some unexpected publicity blasts soon... plus there is excellent news about the album from someone involved in the production of the soundtrack! Jo He brought up Showman. He just busted out how excited he was for us to see Showman. Went on about the album and I did ask about the second trailer. He just kinda shrugged, soon. He is up to something else too. On a real high after the live read- he loved it. Could he be referring to a potential major project by Michael Mann, as reported by Agence France Presse? Jo

Jo He was specific about what he's thinking about doing but who knows if it will come together. I probably shouldn't have toyed with you by referencing that but I will say this property wasn't mentioned.

Thanks again ... Okay -- my initial gut feel from what you said about " something else" -- Broadway?? I am hoping it is something to do with Sorkin? But maybe that is just very wishful thinking Jo

Barnum's red coat -- the costume may very well win awards with other striking designs ... or is it more of a fashion statement leatherswear.com/greatest-showman-hugh-jackman-red-coatIt's already up for sale as merchandise by an enterprising entrepreneur ( ala P.T. Barnum ) I wonder if Fox knows all about this PS: The Ringmaster's red coat is more striking and eye-catching ( for Halloween or Christmas carolling) Jo

Great find, Hughmanity If I may, I would like to reproduce part of the article ( in case it gets pulled out online) -- This is probably also a major pitch for Oscar consideration for BEST COSTUMES Will the costumes be taken to major locations for any planned premieres for the movie in key cities? Just like they did for Les Miserables? And PAN ? Jo

What does a producer for a soundtrack song do?

Just guessing, but perhaps a producer supervises the recording sessions ,and along with union reps, designates the number of musicians needed depending on what the orchestrations require..

Ok But what I find a little difficult to understand is -- *Presumably they did record the songs in a recording studio before filming started... and then lipsynched to them as they filmed. I am not sure if the full orchestra was around... Or did they just concentrate on the actors's singing being recorded ( so it is a clean version when they lipsynch to it)... This was done sometime before November 2016 ( filming start or thereabouts). *But it seems additional work ( with some key music people involved) was done on the soundtrack during post-production and before the album is released. This was what I heard that has people getting excited about the soundtrack. Hmm... life was simpler with Les Miserables. They rehearsed the songs! They sang live on set! Two pianists were on hand ( with the music being piped into the actors's ears as they sang)! Except for the Opening Scene when the water drowned out the singing, they were able to retain the live-singing concept all throughout the film! The full orchestral background was added during post production! As it was a sung-through musical, the film scoring and the music background to the "real" songs were added at the Edit suite! Presumably, the soundtrack was picked up live from the finished film? That is how I understood that process Whatever it is -- I am very excited ( and from what Ruby reported, so is Hugh!) to hear the full soundtrack from SHOWMAN! Jo

Now for the songs -- * THIS IS ME is the only one we really have heard ( trailer music with Keala...and Hugh's concert version) so far. *There were bits of COME ALIVE during the CinemaCon LA presentation. *Variety reported a duet with Hugh and Zac ( THE OTHER SIDE)... and another duet for Zac and Zendaya ( REWRITE THE STARS). *There is the supposed finale song which Hugh performed with the ensemble during the reading in February 2016 ( which saw him singing against doctor's orders) for that final song of the score. We got hints of it from the Variety article : 'For instance, “FROM NOW ON,” the big moment in the last act for Barnum (Hugh Jackman) as he faces a critical stage in his life and career, is uplifting and powerful.'*Presumably, Michelle and Rebecca will have songs to sing, too? *How many other songs will Hugh sing? *How many songs all in all in the soundtrack? Hopefully, 10-12 by Pasek and Paul?? Or is that a bit much Here's the Variety article covering Pasek and Paul's work in THE GREATEST SHOWMAN -- variety.com/2017/artisans/news/songwriters-barnum-greatest-showman-1202573848/Jo

Great find, Hughmanity If I may, I would like to reproduce part of the article ( in case it gets pulled out online) -- Maybe the costume replicas will be partly used for this purpose? The following was taken from the announcement of Cunard that the world premiere of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will take place onboard the QueenMary2 --

Remember the announcement of the book to accompany the release of the movie? Check out the page on Amazon or your Order details, if you have already pre-ordered the book (The Art and Making of The Greatest Showman by Bergstrom, Signe) They have added some images from the book at Amazon -

Okay -- the film has already been completed because it has now been rated by MPAA: So, where is the second trailer?? If Fox does not hurry, it might get overtaken by the release of the movie ( premieres in early December?) Jo

Sorryyyyyyyy.... You're awfully mistaken That is the other Barnum... the Barnum for whom Cy Coleman wrote the music ... the Barnum of Jim Dale and Michael Crawford en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnum_(musical)Jackman will only do nearly death-defying stunts for Logan/Wolverine Jo

I thought I would reprint this article from Variety from AUGUST 2009 -- variety.com/2009/film/markets-festivals/hugh-jackman-to-star-in-showman-1118006842/*It was always planned to be a musical! Some have reported that it was originally planned as a straight biopic which is not true. *It has always said that it was aiming for a contemporary musical score. This was likely the reason why the first composer that was being considered for the film project was a European pop singer/songwriter named MIKA. *It has always been identified as a FOX project. *However, Bicks was not part of the EMMY-winning team which wrote Hugh's Opening Number ( Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics -- Hugh Jackman Opening Number: William Ross, John Kimbrough, Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab, Ben Schwartz) but had probably written part of the script for the telecast. The following year, when the EMMY was awarded to the team, I remember that it was composed of an all-male writing team. Maybe the connection with Bicks led to the writing of the first draft of the script for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH ( as it was called then). Jo

Product tie-in! His and Hers Fragrances inspired by THE GREATEST SHOWMAN www.moodiedavittreport.com/house-of-sillage-aims-to-add-its-sparkle-to-travel-retail/Excerpts -- Based on the full article, it looks like the fragrance company products are a little on the high end. Are products of the House of Sillage generally available in many big cities or is availability fairly limited? But given that THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is for mass audiences, will the fragrances created to tie in with the movie be made at more affordable prices and widely available? Or is this simply a limited publicity tie-in for the forthcoming movie? Nevertheless, this puts the publicity for the movie on a different scale compared to the usual popcorn/soda/memorabilia stuff. Jo It will be available exclusively at Bloomingdale's. www.imgrum.org/media/1635785611514561028_4057439866
