YOLO, Hugh! Haha - I had to look that up! "You Only Live Once!" Hey, our generation saw a movie which sounded similar -- James Bond's "You Only Live Twice" Jo

Was Barnum an actual performer? Or did he simply introduce his performing troupe?

I thought she meant impressive screen presence, strong cinematic charisma?
Isn't that a permanent quality... and desired by every actor?
Or did she mean something else? I have read other movie journalists refer to Hugh's strong screen presence as a great actor's asset.

A different Barnum! I don't know how to take this in yet -- But the West End is mounting a revival of the stage musical, Cy Coleman's BARNUM. And maybe at some point...try to transfer it to Broadway if the revival is successful ( although presumably any Broadway transfer cannot be done till after the release of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. www.broadwayworld.com/article/Menier-Chocolate-Factory-Announces-The-First-Major-London-Revival-Of-BARNUM-20170821It is even expected to open ahead of the release of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN! Bah *Is it safe to assume that this can only serve to heighten the buzz for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, at least in the UK? Hopefully, they are perceived as complementing each other. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN may likely have a different focus on Barnum's life. And given the current social focus on inclusivity and acceptance, the film will likely put strong emphasize on Barnum's relationship with the so-called circus freaks! Also, the musical score will sound more contemporary for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, as intended and as composed by Pasek and Paul. *Will there be comparisons? Between the 2 productions ( film and stage)? The Menier Chocolate Factory is meant only for small stagings, so presumably the stage would not be too large to house large spectacles? I have seen a video (it can be found on YouTube) of the Michael Crawford-led staging. *Will they compare the stage Barnum with the film Barnum and how will that affect the perception for Hugh as potential Best Actor nominee? My guess is that the more buzz about anything Barnum-related, the better. It can only reinforce in the public's mind that a Barnum entertainment is in the offing, soon to open as a holiday period movie. So it's all good. I hope.

If we are going to have some competition for the attention of the British public -- I hope the plans to release the MTV video promotion earlier recorded at THE ABBEY ROAD Studios with various international pop stars is released fairly soon...and ahead of the staging at Menier Chocolate Factory! That will reinforce the appeal to the younger generation of this movie musical with a contemporary musical beat!
Go! The GREATEST SHOWMAN!

The theatre itself MENIER CHOCOLATE FACTORY is not technically the West End, but fringe-theatre ( like off-Broadway). But like the famed small theatre, the Donmar Warehouse, it has staged remarkable revivals ( a few Sondheims, an Andrew Lloyd Webber, La Cage Aux Folles, etc). It is a 180-seater theatre though -- so I am not sure how large their stage is! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menier_Chocolate_FactoryHope the staging is successful and makes people who see it become curious about THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. We have wondered about the musical score for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. We have heard basically only THIS IS ME ( Hugh and Keala versions) and a short part of COME ALIVE. I was re-reading some of the Facebook comments on the official trailer and came across an interesting exchange. I understood the cynicism of the doubter - because the internet has many trolls I did a little detective work and clicked on the name of Brian Estanislao...and it opened to his YouTube site. www.youtube.com/channel/UCwMr9PKEtgOAnh9w5Xa9v6wGoogle yielded the following info -- he is Sydney-based; works in animation and art illustration/storyboard; His IMDB filmography is quite lengthy. And among his work -- www.theloop.com.au/b.estanislao/portfolio/lipton-ice-tea-commercial-ad/81092Maybe he continues to have a professional working relationship with Michael Gracey? Either he is involved in the film or Michael has shared the music with him? Hope his comment on the soundtrack is not just HYPE! Jo

Someone on ATC validates the size of the stage at Menier CF for the staging of the " rival" Barnum production And in comparison to a film version of the life of Barnum and the stage from which he operated -- there will be a marked contrast. But it seems that it isn't just the spectacle issue at hand. I have seen the Michael Crawford-led filmed production and it validates that the show emphasis is on typical musical theatre attractions -- music, dance, and spectacle (of the circus), and in this case the book did not seem like its strong point as it was more like a straight biopic narration. On the other hand -- Reading a previous on-set interview with Hugh Jackman re THE GREATEST SHOWMAN - he actually says that the movie emphasis is not really the circus. entertainment.inquirer.net/233579/hugh-jackman-bearded-woman-greatest-showman-setIt looks like THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will combine the appeal of music and spectacle with the more dramatic and compelling statement of how humanity has progressed in the path to success through merit and creativity...as well as that of individuality and acceptance !

So the soundtrack to SHOWMAN all not be released until a week or two before the film's release? Not liking or appreciating the wisdom of that. Don't most soundtracks come out well before that to help stimulate interest?

I think that opinion in the facebook comment was just a generality. We don't know how the marketing/promotion for this movie will proceed. Let's hope for a more optimistic schedule of the soundtrack release ...and other publicity stuff Jo

Can't wait to see Hugh's dancing!
*the tap dance with Zac on the bar counter *the exhilarating ballroom swirl with Michelle ( on the rooftop) *the spectacle with the "Oddities" in COME ALIVE
And the other big production numbers!
Hope we get more publicity clips ( maybe a second trailer) in early fall!

A Japanese fan has found Hugh's version of THIS IS ME.
Hope if further increases the interest in Japan ( Which loves movie musicals!) in THE GREATEST SHOWMAN!
The show was being recorded as it was being performed, to show the blown-up scene on the screen onstage. Presumably, they may still have that recording? Wouldn't it be great if they uploaded that clip to show the full song as performed by Hugh? There was a Periscope coverage, but it was uploaded for only a very short time.
