What a coincidence


First, there is the planned revival of Coleman's BARNUM in London, to coincide with the release of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN.


Now, there's a recording related to the Michael Crawford-led BARNUM musical that will be released via Amazon.com in September ( per this notice from ATC) --

I've had that backers' audition on my computer for a good dozen years. Composer Cy Coleman runs through mostly upbeat songs planned for the then-upcoming musical BARNUM, which eventually starred Jim Dale. Odd that it's being officially released now.

But anything that keeps P. T. Barnum in the zeitgeist can only be good
for SHOWMAN.

Will P.T.Barnum's association with singer Jenny Lind be one of the dramatic conflicts in the storyline?

We haven't had much publicity material involving Rebecca Ferguson -- but in his interview from her previous movie, she is quite beautiful --



It seems that in the movie, there could be romantic conflict involving her character Jenny Lind, whose concert series in America of the Swedish opera singer was a great accomplishment of the Barnum impresario efforts, and the master showman himself.

Can Rebecca sing? According to reports, Rebecca who comes from a part Swedish background is said to be a trained singer in real life. I wonder if Jenny Lind will be portrayed as an opera singer in this movie( which it seems is leaning more towards contemporary music) or will she be a more modern type of musical entertainer?

This image is very appealing! There is something about it that reminds me of the staging of THE NUTCRACKER at Lincoln Center -- almost like a fairy tale kingdom ( of the Sugar Plum Fairy) ! Absolutely no connection at all -- but it has a very evocative, almost whimsical appeal.

Aside from by donning the occasional adamantium claws, Hugh Jackman has been able to dazzle audiences with his booming singing voice, expert dancing skills and bottomless well of charm. The claws may be sheathed for good, but he’s about to showcase everything else in the upcoming THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. The film about P.T. Barnum (Jackman) got its first poster, which put the focus on the idea that if anyone can turn a ratty, flooded auditorium into a place of wonder, it’s Hugh Jackman.

The movie has some months to go before release so chances are we could see another, grander poster come out that includes the rest of the cast, including Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams and Rebecca Ferguson.  The first teaser for the musical debuted a little bit ago, and you can marvel at the energy and grandness of it all below.

Not much to look at, for sure, but as a teaser poster, it gets its ideas across. Barnum took nothing and made something wondrous out of it, and the movie itself is all about how the spirit of imagination has the power to change the world around us. The movie is shaping up to be a real showstopper and crowd pleaser, and coming out during the holiday season could make it a smash at the box office, especially seeing how LA LA LAND has made live-action musicals more popular than ever. It could be a big hit of the Oscar season and it’s certainly one on my list of flicks to see. I will admit this is mostly because I like elephants and cotton candy.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN arrives this Christmas.

Many observations that the new poster reminds people of The Great Danton in THE PRESTIGE.

Both were showmen...and the stories take place in the 19th century.

The focus of the promotional material continues to be on how he "adopted" the so-called oddities/freaks and turned them into impressive circus performers - continuing on the themes of : creativity and meritocracy ... individuality and acceptance!

Chris here. Forgive us if festival season has us distracted from some of the bigger budget cinematic events to come in the months ahead. But rest assured that we are still plenty excited about Hugh Jackman's upcoming The Greatest Showman. An original musical so soon after La La Land feels too good to be true - no, this isn't adapted from the Coleman/Stewart musical Barnum - but we're curious if this also has a solid chance with Oscar. All of the design elements, as witnessed in that first trailer, look eye-popping and sumptuous - but will this be more than an entertaining time at the movies this holiday season? Composers Pasek and Paul might at least have a solid chance to return to the Best Original Song race after their La La Land win last year - they're our current trophy hogs after also taking the Tony for Dear Evan Hansen.
Here's your reminder that we've got a splashy musical coming our way - the film's first poster! Why so shy about selling its megastar, I wonder - especially with some of that Logan goodwill to capitalize on...

According to the folks at Awards Watch, it has screened abysmally and they are now trying to fix it in post. They were keen on the movie in their original predictions, but once the reports started to rush in they dropped it like a hot potato. Hugh Jackman still in for a Globe Comedy/Musical nom, but that's about it.

It's somehow fitting that a musical movie that has long been a dream for some of those behind it is all about the impossible somehow coming true. That's the message of the new poster for The Greatest Showman, at least, which features Hugh Jackman as PT Barnum.

The film charts Barnum's life from a poor upbringing to his first proper circus in New York in the 1800s, a time when such shows were frowned upon as morally dubious.

Michelle Williams plays his wife Charity, with Zac Efron as his business partner who initially isn't sure about the whole shebang. Rebecca Ferguson, meanwhile, is Swedish Opera singer Jenny Lind, and Zendaya plays a trapeze artist who catches Efron's eye.

Michael Gracey is in the director's chair for the film, which we predict will have a new trailer headed our way before the week is out. The movie itself arrives on 1 January.

We all love Hugh Jackman. He blew us away in "The Boy From Oz." He wow'd us in "Oklahoma!" He made us go through our fair share of Kleenex during "Les Miserables."

And now, he's starring in another musical! This time, he'll be playing circus legend P.T. Barnum in the new movie musical "The Greatest Showman," with music by Pasek & Paul and we're definitely counting down the days until the December 25 premiere.

But we still miss him on the Great White Way and want to know...what show do YOU want to see Hugh Jackman star in on Broadway?
