I'm glad I retired after 41 years teaching elementary school in regular academic classes and music, but wouldn't it have been fun to see my students singing the songs from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN?!!!!

he Greatest Showman original motion picture soundtrack was this year's best-selling album globally, according to the The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the worldwide recorded music industry.

The album, which was released on Atlantic Records, sold 3.5 million album units worldwide, according to the IFPI, topping charts in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Japan and hitting No. 1 on iTunes in more than 77 countries. In the U.K. particularly the album has dominated, spending 28 straight weeks at No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart and even now, after 63 weeks on the chart, still sits at No. 4 after falling from No. 2 last week.

"At a time when the global possibilities for music feel limitless, it's fitting that the biggest record of the year defied expectations and took the industry by surprise," said Max Lousada, CEO of recorded music, Warner Music Group, said in a statement. "This phenomenon was ignited by unique voices and beautifully crafted songs, then amplified by our amazing marketing teams and the power of super passionate fans. It's been fantastic for everyone at Warner and Atlantic to help The Greatest Showman's message of tolerance and acceptance cascade across the world."


Added Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI: "The Greatest Showman soundtrack was the jewel in the crown of a year that reminded us of the powerful role music plays in connecting cinematic audiences with the movies they love. Alongside the movie itself, we have seen the soundtrack truly embraced on a global scale."

A new show ALLStarMusicals in the UK featured actors with singing talents.

A lot of gushing over a Coronation Street actor called Daniel Brocklebank, with his rendition of FROM NOW ON. Some even saying that Hugh Jackman had better watch out.

Er… no comparison at all to Hugh's rendition in the film. Hugh's interpretation showed off his best triple-threat talents -- acting range, powerful singing, and engaging dancing!


FROM NOW ON is primarily an acting song. It is best illustrated with strong acting showcasing emotional range... the singing to cover that range of emotions, which includes strong expressions of regret, redemption, and joy!

Your rendition was something NOBODY else has done. You each took a section of a song that was originally written to tell a solo story, and you each told your own beautiful own and unique story. You each spoke by saying, “I’ll remember where I come from.” It takes a village to raise a child. It takes that same village to empower the child as an adult, for them to be successful on their endeavors in life. I wish you all the best of luck, and thank you for taking such a great song, and giving it a different life.

I've just seen a tweet ( part in our language) here in Manila from someone who observed that as far as she knows every graduating class ( late March/early April is graduation time in our school year) here have used A MILLION DREAMS as their theme song for their commencement ceremonies!

Hugh was recently asked what his favorite song from The Greatest Showman is -- he did name a few -- but the first one he mentioned which seemed like a recent favorite ( partly because P!nk recorded it) was A MILLION DREAMS.

It looks like this is the real classic from the movie musical. This is Me is the anthem for those feeling unaccepted by all ( which is likely a minority) but A MILLION DREAMS is becoming the true anthem of the movie, as it is what drove Barnum on in his life! It is sung by the very, very young...to those who still feel young enough to weave their own dreams. Bill Clinton once said : one keeps being young when one continues to dream...it is when his memories are what are important, that is when he starts to grow old.

The Official Top 40 biggest albums of 2019 so far
The Greatest Showman, Ariana Grande and Tom Walker hold some of the year's biggest albums so far.

The Greatest Showman continues to enjoy huge success in 2019 and currently holds the title of the UK’s biggest album of the year to date.

The cast recording spent the first five weeks of 2019 at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, bringing its total to 28 non-consecutive weeks at the summit. It’s combined sales for this year stand at 263,000, 1.89 million overall.
The album, which includes hit songs This Is Me by Keala Settle and Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Show, hasn’t left the Top 10 since it first hit Number 1 in January 2018 – and only dipped out of the Top 5 once.

At Number 2 and currently the biggest artist album of 2019 is Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next (164k). Ariana’s fifth studio record logged three weeks at Number 1 in February/March and is the UK’s most streamed album of the year to date with 269 million plays across all 12 of its tracks.

2018 chart-topper Staying At Tamara’s by George Ezra is third (145k), and the Bohemian Rhapsody film soundtrack by Queen is fourth (132k). The band’s 2002 retrospective Platinum Collection has enjoyed a resurgence in the chart thanks to the film and currently ranks as the year’s eighth biggest album.

More cast recordings feature prominently in the year-to-date albums chart: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s two-week chart-topper A Star Is Born is at 5, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again places at 13.

Further down the year-to-date Top 40, Jack Savoretti’s Number 1 record Singing to Strangers is at 23, Andrea Bocelli’s Si – the first classical album to top the Official Albums Chart in 21 years – is at 32, and Dido’s Still On My Mind is close behind at 33.

For the 2019 Billboards Music Awards, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is nominated ( again) for Best Soundtrack). It was also nominated in 2018 but lost out to Moana presumably because at the time of the cutoff, it has not yet registered its full record-breaking run?
