They did not do enough research as to actual album sales performance!


In 2018, they predicted Black Panther as winner ( won by Moana, predicted as 3rd...while TGS was predicted at 2nd). Interestingly they gave Moana a 4/1 win chance. In 2019, they assigned the same 4/1 odds to The Greatest Showman

Majority of people streaming The Greatest Showman soundtrack are men

The record remains the UK's most streamed album 18 months on from its release.

The majority of people streaming the soundtrack of The Greatest Showman, last year’s highest-selling album, are in fact men.

Both Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron – the stars of the hugely successful musical drama – are known for having avid female fan bases.

But according to new data from streaming service Deezer, over half (56%) of the album’s streams were by men – while 53% came from millennials aged between 26 and 35.


The figures also indicate that 74% of those streaming the album were under the age of 45.

The Greatest Showman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack remains the UK’s most streamed album 18 months on from its release despite competition from George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s and Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next.

It comes as Jackman, 50, kicks off his highly-anticipated world tour which will see him perform songs from The Greatest Showman as well as tunes from Les Miserables and other Broadway classics.

The Golden Globe-winning actor begins in Glasgow tonight before heading to European cities including Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Zurich, Switzerland and Paris.

Robbie Williams is expected to join him at some stage.

The award was presented by Stephen Schwartz. Will he and Hugh ever finally get together for a musical theatre show? Houdini lay unfinished presumably. Hugh went to see Schikaneder in Vienna, but no word on that either.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, Hugh Jackman’s movie musical, has crossed another milestone after a year in the Official Film Chart.

It’s been 18 months since The Greatest Showman hit cinemas screens. And now with this week’s Official Film Chart, the Hugh Jackman movie music has crossed another milestone. The Greatest Showman has not once dropped out of the Top 20 of physical and digital home releases. In fact, the movie was the biggest seller of 2018.

Meanwhile, in this week’s Top 10, Mary Poppins Returns is back at No 1, after topping second place Bumblebee.
Avengers Infinity War continues to hang on at No 3 for this week, while Bohemian Rhapsody has climbed back up to No 4, as Stan & Ollie debuts at No 6.

Earlier this month, The Greatest Showman was still the UK’s most streamed album of 2019, and of the last 12 months, according to Deezer.

This is an incredibly impressive achievement considering the album released almost 18 months ago.

Interestingly, The Greatest Showman’s popularity in the UK is largely filled by male music fans, who made up the majority of the streams.

The album beat George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s and Ed Sheeran’s ÷.

Following the first film’s success, it’s unsurprising that there seem to be plans for The Greatest Showman 2.
Last month, Jackman said: “The real answer is ‘could be’, I'm not sure.”


Jackman continued: “I’m being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure.

“I think right now there's more emphasis being put on what will happen with... I was doing my show, will there be another live version.

“No one is really sure right now, so that's the honest truth.

“But I think someone is working on a treatment for something... I know they are, they're working on a treatment for something.”

I wonder -- is part of its strong impact on the younger generation partly because this set of songs is vastly different from the kind of pop songs prevailing in this culture now?

I was reading thru the Even Hansen Playbill enumeration of work credits of Pasek&Paul and chanced upon this --

And The Greatest Showman original motion picture soundtrack is certified PLATINUM in over a dozen countries including Triple Platinum in the US, Australia and Indonesia, Quadruple Platinum in Singapore, 5 x Platinum in Korea, 6x Platinum in the UK, and 7x Platinum in Ireland.

In the US, Platinum certification is per million - so that means that the soundtrack has sold at least 3 million copies. In the UK, a Platinum certification is per 300,000 ( which means at least 1.8 million has been sold in the UK.

On Tuesday, the 2020 Olympics released a teaser trailer for the upcoming event, which will be held in Tokyo from July 24th, 2020 to August 9th, 2020.

The video — which is set to Panic! At The Disco’s cover of “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman — features clips of beloved athletes including gymnast Simone Biles and USWNT player Alex Morgan.
