Someone who seemed to be knowledgeable about the production of the soundtrack album reported that album sales were "astronomical" on a message board! It seems the person was not using hyperbole Although a number of naysayers on that board were looking down their noses on the quality of the album *rolleyes* www.broadwayworld.com/article/THE-GREATEST-SHOWMAN-Soundtrack-Hits-No-1-on-Billboard-200-Chart-20180108Happily, the success of the album is also reflecting on very good although a little unexpected results in the film box office. Long may the partnership shoot for the stars

variety.com/2009/film/markets-festivals/hugh-jackman-to-star-in-showman-1118006842/I wonder who thought of using a contemporary tone to a period-musical? Was it the successful juxtaposition of the humor and singing dialog in the 2009 Oscars about 5 serious film nominees which gave them the idea of melding original contemporary songs with a period-musical storyline ? The 2009 Oscars hosting is a longtime favorite of viewers and earned an EMMY for the songwriters. Also, was the project ever pursued with the British singer/songwriter Mika? Eventually we know that Michael Gracey took over the helm in 2011 ( also firmly believing in a contemporary score in his cinematic vision of the movie) and after a number of iterations with a number of pop music exponents, he finally decided on the unkown team of Pasek and Paul then. Ironic that for a while FOX was said to have wanted to use known pop songs for the movie ( like a jukebox musical). Had that decision been followed, it is likely that the success of the soundtrack album would not have raised the profile of the movie and its music to its current levels! It's the great combination of original music with a storyline inspired by the story of Impresario Barnum and of course great performances from the cast ! Jo

Benj Pasek ( Justin Paul could not make it from snowbound NYC) was interviewed by Billboard in view of their string of successes. www.billboard.com/articles/news/8093224/greatest-showman-songwriter-benj-pasek-interview-number-one-album?utm_source=twitterHere are some interesting excerpts, although the entire article are worth the read -- Q&A with Hugh for GREATEST SHOWMAN -- I doubt that it is for the Golden Globes since the awarding ceremonies would only be 2 days later nor for a press promo ( since the movie has already been released). Is this just a format for a plain interview that features both Hugh and Benj... or has it anything to do with the song that is been offered for AMPAS consideration? From what I heard, this has always been the plan -- but I think it was meant to be released before the movie was released since they thought it would be great publicity before the movie opens. But as it was - the original soundtrack album had such appeal that it became a magnet for the movie. I wonder if the songs by other artists have already been recorded or will this be simply another project by Atlantic Records and not a publicity vehicle for the movie?

David Archuleta came in 2nd on American Idol in 2008. I knew the name sounded familiar, so I Googled him. Nancy

I have been listening to the album a number of times --
And without the visuals...
My best impression as to individual performances -- is that Hugh Jackman is acting out his songs so very well! He was not just mouthing the words and raising his voice to reach the notes, he is acting out the emotional nuances! I also think Michelle Williams gives me a similar impression ( the pain in her delivery is so heartfelt) but she has only one song, unlike Hugh who has a range of songs to express himself as the character. Interesting, too, that in THE OTHER SIDE, there is a strong contrast between his more nuanced performance compared to Zac Efron's delivery ( no offense meant, just making a comparison).

It's now the music that America loves Oops...are we on the verge of losing Hugh Jackman to the music business There are so many reports of stock-outs ( Amazon/HMV in London/etc)...and people complaining on social media that they had to wait a week to get their copy ( which is annoying because they wanted it to accompany their car travel) But the whole team must be skyrocketing with happiness over how the music for the movie has taken America and the world by storm CONGRATULATIONS to Pasek and PauL, Michael Gracey for his cinematic vision which inspired the score, and the singing cast members led by Musician Jackman!

LOL - he's auditioning for the job, if and when the movie is adapted for Broadway He's hoping Hugh is too busy... Or if Hugh opens the show...that he is considered a hopeful to take over the lead Except he's singing it without the joyous abandon that the scene calls for ...and how Hugh gave it its distinct life How I wish the awards community really gave this song a chance! It looks like FROM NOW ON was part of his concert at the SouthBank Centre in London.
Maybe it is just coincidence, but the RNT OKLAHOMA! revival played its initial run in the National Theatre which is part of the Southbank Centre across the Thames in London. Ramin probably had his concert in one of the smaller theatres in the complex.

He has performed there previously.

Of the Hugh songs, I wonder which one will get the most covers? They are all different and each one tells a different story/message -- *The Greatest Show is the not only the waker-upper...but it is used as a device to frame the movie. It serves as the grand overture as well as being the grandiose musical epilogue! I had asked a 16 yr old relative which of the score she liked best -- I thought it could be This Is Me... but her answer is a resounding THE GREATEST SHOW! *A Million Dreams -- is my special favorite -- such a beautiful melody and the lyrics are romantic, lyrical, and redolent of one aspiring for the beautiful things in life. This song is also a great forerunner of what is to come in the story of this particular look at Barnum. *Come Alive -- the great unfolding of the idea of a pre-circus troupe! Hugh is such a great ringmaster, with everything embodied in his voice and body movements! That is also quite a strong piece of choreography. Can one cover this and even slightly approximate the strong message contained in this production number? *The Other Side --whoa!! The greatest and best surprise! Such a precise and technical number...but the best example of a song that advances the story! It's all the triple threat talent on display -- acting, singing, and dancing! Not sure anyone would dare do a cover to replicate the movie's most intricately conceived piece. *From Now On -- such a great eleven o-clock number for the movie! Such a strong display of also triple-threat strengths -- act/sing/dance...and run ... It could lend itself to a dramatic stand-alone interpretation of how one meets life's struggles and move head on to better things, just as it seems Ramin is doing here. Could be a piece for reality song contests because it also displays such a range of vocal power and has its own message to tell! Of course, there might be bias on our part because this is the number that likely got the greenlight sealed for the film project ( given the circumstances surrounding its presentation at the final workshop)! But I think we are all rejoicing for the joy and warmth of the reception of all the songs in the musical score! Jo

In terms of pure enjoyment of a song irrespective of who performs it, I'd have to say "Never Enough" is my favorite song in the score. Its plaintive and sweeping melody is abetted by the simple yet powerful lyrics that convey the realization and intensity of love. It's just a beautiful song.
But I like all the others very much, too, especially "The Greatest Show," "From Now On," and "The Other Side," the last also because of the snappy and clever way it's enacted on screen.
