Lin Manuel is at it again -- this time for REWRITE THE STARS.
@lacketylac is Alex Lacamoire, his collaborator in Hamilton ( and his other works) but who also acted as Exec Music Producer for the movie The Greatest Showman. He was also on the keyboards accompanying Keala Settle and company when they performed THIS IS ME at the Oscars.

It seems the lyrics of THE OTHER SIDE was very powerful incentives for him to go the path he has now chosen!
It is wonderful how many people understand the outstanding job that the lyrics of the songs served!
They advanced the story and enhanced character development! It is very true to musical theatre!
I wish those who said that the plot was too thin or that there was not enough backstories or motivational aspects to the characters would have looked at the lyrics more closely.
*ThisIsMe shared the dark place where the Bearded Lady and her co-oddities came from;
*TheOtherSide clearly described the life that Philip used to live and from where Barnum was ready to "rescue" him;
*Tightrope is such a revelatory exposition of how Charity felt and how she would continue to travel along the same path as her chosen love;
*AMillionDreams exposed an imaginative young boy's yearnings...and how his grown up self would be guided by a life full of dreams and ambitions;
*FromNowOn could not have been a more perfect eleven o'clock number!
*And of course TheGreatestShow encompasses what mass entertainment is all about, who are the "troupers", and how their lives are transformed by their joy of performing ( same message as ComeAlive!).
*Even the reprise of NeverEnough served a purpose -- it was being sung by Jenny to tell Phineas that his overwhelming ambition is ruthless!

LOL - per Wikipedia : And I guess he initially struggled with making sure his grandiose visions became reality Hmm... this is the first open declaration that expresses what many people missed ( especially those who were critical that The Greatest Showman was more of an attempt to clean up Barnum's reputation) -- that THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is actually an inspirational artistic piece that traces a man's quest for success in a field that was celebrated only in his dreams! LinManuel compares what must have been his similar personal success before he finally landed with HAMILTON! The movie is really all about the quest for such a (grandiose) dream - in the case of the Barnum Greatest Showman story, that of pursuing the concept of mass entertainment in what is now popularly known as SHOWBIZ! |

This is fabulous -- weaving the song TIGHTROPE ( well-sung, too) across various museum piece art work! Lol - I wonder what DaVinci, VanGogh, Chagall, Warhol, etc., will have to say Someone on the YouTube Page identified all the museum art used, in case your memory cells are not cooperating If you continue watching his video, it seems there are other songs from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN that he wants to play with ...plus he is encouraging people to join him in a video project also inspired by the musical score from the movie. |
