People criticized the movie for not being historically accurate, but it has been clearly stated that it's not a biopic, but rather an entertaining pseudohistory of showbusiness, hinting on PT Barnum's business tactics (deception which is shown in the movie). It's a great movie to watch with family, is witty, and has great music tied into perfectly to scenes.

I've been trying to work out how this movie has garnered such an overwhelming response globally despite the relatively mixed reviews. I think the answer is encapsulated in this video: there's a spiritual passion and comradery about this film - in part from the great music, the great people, and the forceful nature of Hugh's passion for the project - that trickles from the production stage (seen here) right through to the final product. I think why it connected with so many people is precisely because of that overwhelming passion that's poured into the movie, almost like it's spilling into the viewers through a transcendent experience when they watch. I'm almost inclined to say that it creates something akin to a religious experience - which is absolutely fantastic. How many films can you say you've seen which has had such an impact on viewers in recent history? Critics can give it all the flack they want, but they can't the deny the positive effect it's had on the people that are passionate about it. Love it - I will be seeing it a 3rd time this week <3

The message of thanks from Hugh has drawn so many heartfelt responses ( usually, Instagram responses are mostly breezy) from so many, it seems that this is worth putting up a scrapbook for!

There was one which I just lost which seemed to both very funny and yet so appreciative -- A group of men with macho-related jobs ( warehouse men and truckers) are rocking to THIS IS THE GREATEST SHOW everytime, at the top of their lungs. If I can find the exact reply, I will post it here. It only underscores the very, very wide appeal of this movie -- across ages, gender, occupations, nationalities ...

It is on the way to becoming a real classic! Did Hugh ever dream that this could happen

And the naysayers proclaim that it is just the music that has swept the world --

Paul G. Eberhart I saw the movie 3 times in 4 days. The first musical I’ve seen in a theatre. My wife of 38 years and I separated a year ago. She and my 19 year old daughter saw the movie first and invited me to go see it. They both said that I was P.T. Barnum incarnate. I didn’t believe them but went to see it so I could be with them. Well, they were right. I have been a struggling entrepreneur my entire life and I’m on the verge of hitting my biggest deal yet. I just don’t know how to quit. I want to thank all that made this great movie and the incredible music. My goal is to take voice lessons and learn how to sing so I can publicly sing “From Now On” to my wife. And I may be so bold I will invite Hugh to come be a part of it. Thank you Hugh Jackman for saving my life with such an inspirational movie. Grateful

This was a film that was “loosely-based” on the source material. A sentimental film that romanticized the source material, much like it’s predecessor over 50 years ago, the Sound of Music.

I believe that THIS movie will be THIS GENERATION’S The Sound of Music. It’s clearly resonating.
