Re the using live vocals in the movie -- These are tweets from "the barricade boys" and one of "the lovely ladies" **************************************************** Alistair Brammer @alistairbrammer I MUST say, to people that don't know or realise, ALL the vocals were done live on set for #lesmismovie. Makes it that bit more amazing... Gina Beck @gina_Beck @alistairbrammer and with those ear pieces in where you can't hear anything but the piano and that hissing noise! Alistair Brammer @alistairbrammer @gina_Beck nightmare wasn't it. plinky plonky
Alistair Brammer @alistairbrammer ... no dubbing whatsoever. Hell of a hard job. No musical movie's ever done this before. I think the leads deserve a ruddy pat on the back!x Robbie Towns @robbietowns @alistairbrammer are you sure no movie has EVER done that?
Alistair Brammer @alistairbrammer @robbietowns no musical movie, yes, they havent had the technology**************************************************** Maybe the leads had to wear the ear monitors the longest I remember Russell tweeting that he had to have the ear monitor for 7 hours straight! :o Jo

For song stuck in head: Confrontation - To this day, I love the two voices playing off of each other though DYHTPS runs a very close second.

Was there a Seinfeld episode in which George couldn't get a song from Les Mis out of his head? Anyone know what song? Kathy, that was "Master of the House" in a very early SEINFELD episode. Val, thanks for the better directions to the mp4. It came out fine.

"Master of the House" reminds me of former Dodger pitcher Orel Hersheiser. Vin Scully (my hero) gave Orel the nickname "Master of the House," (the house being Dodger Stadium) during a game. The organist picked up on that, and thereafter played the song every time Orel walked to the mound at the beginning of a game.

Heads up ladies! The Les Miserables trailer IS attached to the film Snow White and the Huntsman; at least here in Toronto it is! Just saw it. It's so much better seeing it on the big screen. ;D

Actually, I have a question regarding the trailer. Jo, maybe you can answer this one? In the film, are they doing some of the songs out of sequence? I'm not sure, but I always thought Fantine still had her long hair when she sang "I Dreamed A Dream" and then didn't get it chopped off until "Lovely Ladies" the song which followed after. In the trailer she's singing "I Dreamed A Dream" with her hair already cut, so are they having "Lovely Ladies" (where she turns to prostitution) precede IDAD? I'm a bit confused here???

Perhaps "Lovely Ladies" may be shortened or moved. Running time for this movie is a concern. I'm sure that there will be less sung through material (replaced with dialogue). Also, they have the new song to add.
The teaser is also a condensed version of scenes. Maybe "I Dreamed a Dream" is divided into segments instead of a one-time number.

You're right Kathy! I never thought of it being divided into segments. I guess I'm still thinking of the "theater" version in my head and forgetting this is film and how much they have to "fit" into a film version. Perhaps it is indeed intertwined with "Lovely Ladies" to give more impact into the grief of "I Dreamed A Dream". Now having not only lost her job, but resorting to prostitution to provide for her child and having sold her hair (in a time when a woman's hair meant femininity and beauty), she has now reached rock bottom and the song becomes even more heart wrenching and powerful. That would totally make sense!

Re the sequence of scenes in the teaser --
It is hard to tell if they have been changing things around, just based on what was shown here. The teaser was meant to give us a glimpse of the storyline and the characters -- not necessarily to tell us the whole story.
There have been speculations that cutting of Fantine's hair may take place at a different time compared to the stage musical. Maybe in the director and the screenwriter's judgment, it works better that way.
Maybe we should have an open mind as to how the film version is going to work out? Besides, there are aspects of film-making that they can take advantage of, which a stage musical has limitations with. Plus they may even change some aspects of the characters?
Maybe we should not expect a clone of the stage musical. After all, the stage musical is not also a clone of the original novel by Victor Hugo.
This is cinema and I personally welcome a fresh cinematic vision from Tom Hooper.

Russell, resident tweeter on the set, shares this --
He is supposed to be filming Javert's suicide, hence the reference to " I live yet".
He tweeted this around noontime of Sunday. They seem to be filming around the clock now.
Are they filming at this pace to wrap as scheduled? There was some talk that originally scheduled filming scenes have also been postponed for others. There was a recent interview with Cameron Mackintosh where he was asked about the filming and he said they were "very busy and they expect to finish filming by June" and that it was going to be a tight schedule afterwards. This seems like a delay of a few weeks based on the originally buzzed film wrap date of June 10. Now that they have already announced on the trailer a release date around Christmas time, they must be on a real tight schedule now. After filming, the elaborate and tedious post-production takes place ( orchestration, film scoring if any, editing, visual effects, sound and light editing, etc.) -- and they would have only over 5 months to do that - Whew :o
I hope that the accelerated filming pace is so as to catch up with the original filming schedule.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERSRussell hints that he has completed the Suicide ( he calls it Sue's Side) scene...but that he needs to be alive again for the confrontation at the sewers ...It looks like they are close to wrapping filming soon. There is buzz that they might wind up by June 17 or so. Jo

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
The sewers scene is one of the longest episodes in the musical and involves the 4 most important characters in the story --
*Valjean escapes through the Parisian sewers, carrying Marius on his back, falters *Thenardier comes upon them, robs Marius while Valjean lays unconsious too ( "Dog Eats Dog") *Valjean recovers and continues to carry Marius on his back. As he emerges from the sewers, he encounters Javert *Final confrontation song.
Maybe this is why Hugh had been going to the gym regularly even while doing some heavy filming. Other than for rebuilding muscle for The Wolverine, he also has to have the easy strength to carry Eddie Redmayne all throughout this scene.
Hope there are not too many takes!

I'm a bit confused here??? I think we can expect, and have already seen, some changes in the film version. I'm one of those who think it makes perfect sense to have IDaD come after she has sold her hair and degraded herself as much as anyone can be degraded and has now reached her lowest point of despair and hopelessness. That is really what the song is about. Really when you think about it would losing your job be the last straw in your miserable life? Probably not. I think selling everything you have that's of value including your hair and teeth would make one feel pretty hopeless. Then having nothing else left, you have to become a prostitute in order to survive and provide for your daughter. That might do it. When I see her in the teaser I really believe she's at her lowest point. I think that in the theatrical version it would be hard to stage her walking around & going through weeks or months of degradation so it was simplified. We will be seeing many more things that were difficult or impossible to do on stage that can be done to the max in a film. And it seems that Tom Hooper is also using the novel to fill in some of the gaps that were necessary to make the story work on stage. I'm excited to see how it will all come together in the end. Sue

Crowe has tweeted that he is done, so Javert is dead. Can't be too much more. Have they done the wedding scenes? Hugh might make the Tonys yet though he's unannounced.

Just read on Russell's twitter account that he finished his filming today.
I imagine that it won't be long until "it's a wrap"

Fond farewell to Inspecteur Javert! He has tweeted well!
Next stop is with another auteur - I bet Hugh is jealous - he was supposed to have worked with Darren Aronofsky on The Wolverine...now, it is Russell who will have that chance in NOAH!
There is still filming being done - some of the Thenardier scenes are being shot now (e.g., Master of the House, maybe The Robbery, not sure if the Valjean-sewers encounter has been completed).
Some extras have chattered that filming may wrap by mid-June.
Let's hope Hugh will be given leave of absence for the TONYs if he is still needed for filming till that time.

I can't imagine that even if he weren't quite finished, that he wouldn't fly back even for one day to receive his Special Tony. Of course he will! (I think.)

He likes to cross the pond often - maybe swim, if necessary! He once flew to NYC for two days to host the TONYs (2003) and back to Van Helsing filming duties.
Will be asked to perform?? Does he have time to rehearse anything?
Will he be allowed to sing any song from Les Miserables?

Tenor? TENOR?!?!?! I adore him and he's one of the most electrifying performers I've ever seen, but even on his best days he's a narrow baritone. Maybe they are confusing the movie score (which HAS to have been lowered for our Boy From Oz) with the ethereal Valjeans on the various recordings of the original show.
