Tenor? TENOR?!?!?! I adore him and he's one of the most electrifying performers I've ever seen, but even on his best days he's a narrow baritone. Maybe they are confusing the movie score (which HAS to have been lowered for our Boy From Oz) with the ethereal Valjeans on the various recordings of the original show. I always think of him more as a Lyric Baritone maybe even a Dramatic Baritone. I'm not worried about the Score. If Russell Crowe can increase his range by an octave for his part by working on it for only a few month then I'm sure Hugh, who is always working on his voice & technique won't have any trouble.

Still filming --
Maybe this involves the scenes when Valjean first encounters the Thenardiers and takes the first step to take responsibility for little Cosette, after finding her in the woods?

My favorite scene from the teaser -- Even better in HD but the photo is too large. *I find this one of the teaser's best-shot scenes. Very artistic! *I am particularly touched by the sight of Valjean slowly falling on his knees. It is very evocative of his first moments of redemption. It must be when he realized the good that the Bishop of Digne has done for him. *He is in prayer and contemplation ...and is likely starting to articulate these feelings through his SOLILOQUY ( What Have I Done?). Jo, you are so right! It is touching indeed. For me it has special meaning because I know what that's like to drop to my knees before God pouring out my heart. The emotion in Hugh's face in this clip tugs at your heartstrings. All the pain from those 19 years in that prison can be seen in his eyes and yet...there's hope there too that he can put all of that behind him and begin a brand new life with God's help! I am so happy for Hugh getting this role. At last his talents will truly be showcased.

We all wish that this is going to be his Oscar movie - after the disappointments with non-recognition of his work in The Fountain, The Prestige and even Australia. But the competition is going to be fierce, probably one of the fiercest of recent years -- Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln, Bill Murray as FDR, Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Master, John Hawkes in The Surrogate ( or has that gotten a new title?), and long-shot chances for other tested actors. I hope that he gets over the first hurdle - a nomination...and then we'll see how his portrayal of the Valjean role will win over the hearts and minds of close to 6000 AMPAS members! Hey, which actor can act and sing at the same time in an iconic dramatic role Jo

It will indeed be tough competition, but I have to admit; even if he's nominated that's enough for me! I'd be so excited for him just to be recognized that his performance is worth an Oscar! ;D

Not really about Les Miserables - but something he enjoyed doing while taking time out from filming in the UK. He visited the Uppingham School where he spent his gap year as a teaching assistant in 1987. quote: Hollywood star, Hugh Jackman, returns to Uppingham

Hollywood star, Hugh Jackman, made a flying visit to Uppingham on Thursday 24th May. Currently filming Les Misérables on location in England he made time in his busy schedule to revisit the School he had worked for during his Gap Year in 1987. "I just had a ball. I really could have stayed," he has said in the past. For many years he has wanted to find time to return. He has kept in contact with some of the boys who were in the House he tutored in and returned with Old Uppinghamian, Richard Billington, to revisit old haunts and reminisce about their time at the School.
Hugh spent time with the current chort of Brooklands pupils, met the Headmaster and had a whistle-stop tour of the School before whizzing back to the Les Miserable set.The boys must have been thrilled to get a visit from Wolverine ;D PS: Here's an old article on his stay at Uppingham -- www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/articles/2009/04/27/hugh_jackman_feature.shtmlJo

Have we seen this particular photo from the early filming days of Les Miserables? I have seen some images of stage Valjeans, but in this photo, he seems to redefine the physicality of the man. I saw Liam Neeson in Les Miserables but the lingering image to me was that of the older Valjean, father of grown-up Cosette Jo

I think the song is the quintessential song of Valjean - it evokes the moral dilemma he faces yet points to his true step to redemption! This performance will likely be his best acting and singing moments in the movie musical.
Remember how made a fine distinction about how it should be interpreted differently on film, as compared to the stage portayal, in the interview with Collider.com?

More thumbnails ( 2 pages) from another fansite, for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association press conference for Hugh Jackman. hugh-fan.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=626&page=1Just wondering why only Hugh was in the press conference ( this was on May 12) as this must be a major coup for the publicity department of Les Miserables. Maybe the photos for other sessions with the other stars will turn up later? Jo

Reprinting this portion pertaining to Les Miserables from the Parade interview --
Interesting comment about how "it is really about the acting"! I wonder if he means that he views the singing just like the spoken dialog in a non-musical ...but believes the acting is what will give the emotional core to the storyline and the characterizations.
It must he hard to start vocalizing early in the morning -LOL!
It looks like the weight gain also complements what he needs to bulk up for the upcoming Wolverine movie.

The movie is already in post-production and the last few scenes are likely being filmed ( mostly reshoots or pickups, plus maybe parts of Master of the House, if the story about SBC is true) simultaneously.
SBC may have lost his voice temporarily maybe because he joined filming only in the last 3 weeks or so and his scenes (which are quite a few important ones) were filmed just about one after another. Hooper has been asking many takes for each scene during the entire filming ( I think Hugh did Bring Him Home filming in 20-something takes...Russell did Stars close to 30 takes...a lot of takes for Do You Hear the People Sing and One Day More...and RC jokes that they did Confrontation so many times that his throat was well worked out... but stressed that his voice was in good form ...and that stories about his losing his voice were absolutely *beep* not true ;D)
The principal actors are done with their filming, except for the residual SBC/maybe HBC scenes. Russell confirms this and Hugh is back in NYC...and other actors ( Anne, Amanda, Samantha, maybe Eddie) are done with their parts. I think Aaron returned for a bit of reshoots but is also done.
Also, they cannot afford to delay the release in the USA beyond December - it has to be shown for a certain period ( it used to be one week minimum) in LA during the current year to qualify for the Oscars. Universal is pinning its hopes in this movie as their Oscar bait.
It is the post-production phase which some film fans worry about a little and not the slight delay in the SBC filming. They have less than 6 months or so to do post for an epic movie. Plus orchestrations will only be added to the live vocals during this period. But since a major studio is behind the project ( Universal is the parent company of producer Working Title Films), it is expected that full financial and technical support will be provided during this important last phase.
Just some of the things I have gathered on the filming.

You're welcome, Annette I think Universal would not have released the first trailer on June 1, if they were not very reasonably certain that the movie will be completed in time for release in December ( Remember " The Dream Lives On...This coming Christmas" on the trailer itself?). If there were looming delay problems, they would have delayed releasing that trailer. The current tweets from extras still involved in the production say that this week ( already Monday here) will be the final week of filming. Will post here any further developments. Jo

I was relieved that Hugh had finished all his scenes with SBC before this happened. It seems to be back on track now. Fingers crossed!
