“We figured out a way to do it that’s Hugh Jackman approved and Kevin Feige approved,” he said.

Back in late September, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman announced that the latter would leave his cozy comic book retirement to play James "Logan" Howlett (aka Wolverine) one last time in the third Deadpool movie, which will introduce Wade Wilson to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While next to nothing is known about the overall plot, SYFY WIRE was able to eke out a vague, albeit exclusive, teaser from the project's director — Shawn Levy — during a retrospective interview focused on the original Night at the Museum (streaming now on Peacock).

"I can’t say much. Thank God, Stranger Things has trained me to shut my mouth more than is instinctive for me," said a jocular Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. "I’ll just say that to be developing and prepping this movie that has this iconic duo together in an entire movie for the first time — a pairing between Hugh and Ryan, Wolverine and Deadpool. [It's] very much a pairing that the world has waited for over a decade, [and] I’m the lucky son of a b**** who gets to tell a story about that pair. The potential is so rich and every day that we work on the screenplay, there are ideas that we didn’t anticipate that appear because you’re talking about the ultimate Marvel icon and the ultimate Marvel iconoclast."

As of right now, it's unclear how Jackman's character will return to the Marvel Universe, given how the fan favorite mutant with the Adamantium skeleton ran out of immortality and died at the end of 2017's Logan.

Fan speculation regarding time travel and the Time Variance Authority are currently swirling around the internet and if you think about it, these theories aren't too out of pocket. Let's not forget: Wade was able to repair Cable's temporal-displacement device in Deadpool 2. A device, we might add, that allowed the Merc with a Mouth to travel to the past and erase the universally-despised X-Men Origins: Wolverine version of Deadpool from the time-space continuum. Add in the fact the MCU is currently in the middle of its Multiverse Saga and the possibilities are literally endless.

"We’ve figured out a way to do it that’s Hugh Jackman-approved and Kevin Feige-approved where we’re completely protecting the legacy of Logan the way it was left off," Reynolds said on The Tonight Show last month.

Deadpool 3 claws its way into theaters everywhere on Nov. 8, 2024. Last we heard, the screenplay was being written by Bob's Burgers alumni, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin.

Hugh Jackman has publicly revealed what dynamic fans should expect between his Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool in Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3.

Reynolds has long been trying to coax Jackman into joining his Merc with a Mouth—not including their first on-screen appearance together that no one pays any kind to. Yet, the actor never successfully convinced the performer to put his metal claws back on.

Despite the world believing Jackman was done with his Wolverine role after Logan, the surprise reveal that came only a few months ago shocked fans worldwide—Wolverine was back. Not only that, but he's now set to co-star with Reynolds in a movie that will be entangled with the MCU.

But how exactly will those two interact with one another?

Deadpool and Wolverine’s Dynamic Revealed



While speaking on The Empire Film Podcast, Deadpool 3 actor Hugh Jackman commented on what fans should expect to see when his Wolverine collides with Ryan Reynolds' loudmouth mutant.

According to the actor himself, when rating the relationship closeness between the duo in Deadpool 3, they’re a “zero” on a scale of 1-10, and that Wolverine will want to “punch him in the head” on more than one occasion:

"10 being really close, zero being the reality—that's what we are. We're zero. We are opposites. Hate each other. I'm just talking from—let's talk from my perspective. [Wolverine's] annoyed by [Deadpool]. Frustrated by him. Wants to be a million miles away from him or punch him in the head. So... I'm probably going to punch him in the head a lot."




He continued, noting that the two’s dynamic will be similar to that of 1982’s buddy cop action comedy, 48 Hours, at least in terms of the banter between the two.

To conclude, Jackman once again reaffirmed his character’s desire to punch Ryan Reynold’s hero in the face:

“They’re sort of opposites. My vinegar to his… like he’s the fast talking, quick-witted, loudmouth, and my character just wants to punch him in the head.”



How Will Wade and Logan Collide?
What could be even more exciting than seeing Wolverine alongside Deadpool? Well, getting the TVA involved is a start.


But how?

While the exact plot points are unknown, given Deadpool’s very nature, he’ll likely start messing with something he shouldn't. One thing will lead to another, and he’ll run into Jackman’s Wolverine, which will probably end with Wade Wilson accidentally displacing Logan from whatever timeline they first meet.

This would undoubtedly strengthen the “opposites attract” energy the two will be maintaining.

Maybe they can at least end up being reluctant friends by the movie’s end?

Deadpool 3 hits theaters on November 8, 2024.

Hugh Jackman is teasing Deadpool 3 by spilling some tea about the relationship the superheroes will have at the beginning of the new movie he’s filming with costar Ryan Reynolds.

In a recent interview, Jackman was asked to categorize the status of the relationship between the two superheroes.

“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other,” he said on The Empire Film Podcast (via ComicBook). “I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”


Jackman recently talked about how they were able to bring back Wolverine, and now integrate him into the MCU, assuring fans that Deadpool 3 wouldn’t mess with the Logan timeline.

“All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now we can go back because, you know, it’s science, so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too,” Jackman said on The Jess Cagle Show.

Jackman’s return as Wolverine was announced during D23, Disney’s fan convention. Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024.

The movie is in pre-prod and will not start filming supposedly till May.

Yet, every interview ( usually to promote THE SON) finds Hugh having to reply to questions on the forthcoming Deadpool/Wolverine movie.

How did James Mangold react to the return of Wolverine?

Jackman had been consistent with his stance on the matter until August 2022 when it was announced that he was reprising Wolverine on Deadpool 3. Still, questions about how Wolverine's upcoming MCU outing will affect the events Logan, including whether it will undo the mutant's death. In a new interview with The Empire Film Podcast, however, Jackman effectively resolves the mystery by revealing Deadpool 3's Wolverine timeline. Read his full quote below:

"He was actually really cool about it. I did tell him that it took place before our movie, so I wasn’t gonna screw with the claws popping out of the grave. So he was relieved by that, and he totally got it. He thought it was a good idea. None of us wanted to screw with that. I was really proud of that movie and what we did, and it felt perfect. And actually, for five years, I was really, honestly, I can tell you, I was kind of a hard done, I was like, this was it. It was August 14, I remember driving and it just came to me like that. I just thought this would be so much fun. I’ll probably have more fun on that movie than anything I’ve ever done...This year. And August 13, I was like, ‘I’m never playing that part again, I promise you.’"

Hugh Jackman, who last played Wolverine in 2017’s “Logan,” is finding it “a lot harder” to get back in shape as the character for the upcoming “Deadpool 3.”

Jackman, 54, was a guest recently on the Empire Film Podcast (via Comicbook), and was asked if his training for Wolverine had gotten easier given his hectic schedule.

“No, a lot harder,” Jackman said. “I’m doing eight shows a week right now, so I’m only lifting weights three times a week. But I’ll be getting into it once or twice a day as soon as this is done in a month. And I’ll have six months to prep, and I always have the same approach every time I go in.”


Jackman, who is currently starring in “The Music Man” on Broadway, added: “I want it to be better than ever, to be in better shape than ever, more able to do things than ever. I just get the added incentive of taking Ryan Reynolds out each day.”

The scooper tweeted : "Deadpool 3 will be a direct follow-up to Deadpool 2. Wade, using Cable's time machine will travel into the future to save Wolverine from dying. Logan does not know who that guy is and want him gone but using a time machine and changing history will get them on the TVA's radar."

By the sounds of it, Loki and Miss Minutes could be involved in this time travelling multiverse adventure that finally brings Ryan Reyynolds' Merc with a Mouth and Jackman's Wolverine into the MCU. The latter has been adamant that he wants to preserve Logan's death, so presumably, he'll be a variant like the god of mischief in Loki whose original self perished in Avengers Infinity War.

What is a variant?

A variant is a person who branches away from the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by creating an alternate version of events.

The term is generally used by the Time Variance Authority, a group of officers responsible for maintaining the cohesion of the MCU timeline.

When someone creates an alternate timeline, their officers work to arrest the individual.

They must then undo the change that created the new timeline, thus restoring the main MCU timeline to its correct form.

This stops the MCU splintering into an infinite number of other universes, which would make everything very chaotic.
