Hugh was also interviewed by Matt Lauer on NBC's red carpet coverage.
"Skyfall" song beat "Suddenly." Ah, well.

Sasha Stone @awardsdaily There's Hugh Jackman looking quite fine with the beard. I mean the one on his face. #goldenglobes #madeafunny

This is just wonderful! I'm so thrilled for Hugh, Anne and everyone involved with Les Miserables.
Well, maybe not quite everyone. SBC's tweet and his onstage comment about Russell were classless and offensive. Too bad.
Looking forward to the Oscars!!! ;D

Jackie, If you read the Film Experience /Nathaniel Rogers blog, it is not just reviews - he is wailing about the whole negativity pervading the internet against Les Miserables Nathaniel himself is very peeved at what he says is uncalled negativity towards the movie. He has been championing the movie since casting time. And he has Hugh, as of now, as the main challenge to DDL on his predictions section. He is posting about his annoyance of what is driving the seeming hate campaign. But in a few days' time - we will get a feel of how the AMPAS has been feeling about the movie! The screening reports are hopeful, and let's hope the "strong-arm" tactics of some people behind other movies ( that is how Kris Tapley has described the tactics of the Lincoln people -- "strong-arming") will not yield too much negative results about our movie. It is also hopeful that some people think Hugh is quite strong at SAG ( actors guild) and may just be favored for the SAG award -- but also because the actors branch of the AMPAS ( which would likely come from the SAGuild) are the only ones voting for the 5 nominations for acting honors. It is when the final choice is made from the 5 actor-nominees that the whole AMPAS votes. Were it not for Hugh, I would have zero interest in the politicking and strong-arm tactics ( don't forget Weinstein ) that go with the awards-giving. I do not even watch the Oscars if Hugh had no part in it! This movie means a lot to Hugh - hence, my interest and support for it and his Oscar bid! And Les Miserables has been my favorite musical since 1988! That is another thing that gets me - I waited more than 2 decades for this movie If he wins or at least get nominated - I am hoping that he will get better access to great film scripts! PS: I posted the RT Page summary to prove that the general public have much more affection for the movie than the critics Jo Hi Jo, Just saw the post. The ONLY reason I'm watching any of these award shows is Hugh. He's not one of those actors that would give it back, but he wants this one really bad and I just love the look in his eyes when someone hands him the award, like tonight. I just keep remembering our stage door conversation and I reall do want him to "bring it home." I also remember the person that said he was "an old washed up actor". I want Hugh happy and I want the last laugh. It's gonna make our tickets to Houdini a little more expensive, but he deserves this. I don't have to tell you or anyone else that on this board. I'm just so excited for him tonight.

Our jubilation is all over the place - LOL!
I posted my Congrats on the Awards section ( Nominations and Wins) -- but who cares!!
Hugh worked so hard to deliver this tour de force! Snarky comments about his win are just people being nasty and jealous -- they know that his performance outshone everyone else and were it not for the negativity against Tom Hooper and those coming from so-called musical theatre purists -- the win would have been the easiest to predict!
Btw, if you read one of my earlier posts, I had posted one article written by a Filipino journalist based in the USA for a Philippine paper and who also happens to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( which awards the GGlobes). When he wrote his feature predicting Hugh and Les Miserables for the wins -- I had been secretly celebrating, hoping that he has already given very broad hints of the results. But my heart still thumped when the moment came to announce Best Actor/Best Movie in Musical/Comedy and I think I teared up a little. LOL!
I am glad the HFPA has redeemed its reputation now!
Les Mis/ Jackman/Argo/Affleck/Day Lewis/Tarantino/Chastain/Hathaway/ Lawrence -- not bad, eh???

Wouldn't that be "loverly"--but I'm afraid lightning will likely not strike twice for Hugh this year. Then again, stranger things have happened. I'm still hoping for the miracle of a tie.

CONGRATULATIONS to Hugh and to Anne and the entire cast and crew of Les Mis! SO thrilled for them!!
I am also thrilled for Ben Affleck and the cast of Argo for winning both the Critics Choice and the Golden Globe! I thought it was one of the best films of the year, and I'm glad they got the recognition.

Other than Les Mis, the only other movie that thrilled me this year was Life of Pi. It's an amazing book and I thought it would be very difficult to film, but they made quite a good movie of it. The other one I was really looking forward to was The Hobbit, because I loved the Rings trilogy. The best comment I've heard on that one is it's "punishment for loving Lord of The Rings." Sad to say, I agree. They should have just made A (one) movie. If The Hobbit deserves *three* films, then LOTR should have been made into a DOZEN movies. (greedy, Greedy, GREEDY!) ...and there are too many Best Picture nominations. If they're going to pick so many films there should be two different categories - Drama and Comedy/Musical (?) like some other awards do. I admit I started to watch The Hobbit on an app on my TV. Glad I didn't pay money because I only made it through a half hour! I love the LotR trilogy and originally I had thought I'd see TH in a theater when it opened. Once I saw the trailers and heard some of the comments about how it was filmed and that it would eventually be three-3-hr movies I became skeptical. I think the whole thing is just a money grubbing ploy and I'm very sorry to see that it is actually making money. There is no way a little book like The Hobbit should have been made into three-3-hr movies. One 3-hr movie would have been a stretch, but would have at least had a chance of being a good movie. I didn't like the look of it at all and I was so bored after a half hour that I had no desire to see more. You are also right about the stupid Academy Awards now having 10 nominations for best picture. That is the stupidest idea ever! It cheapens the craft and artistry of those movies that truly were the best of the year by having to throw in films of far less achievement just to fill out the 10 spots. Sue

Having so many choices may be an advantage for Les Miz. The vote may be split now between Argo and Lincoln and Les Miz may come out the winner because of this.

The irony is that while its format is that of a musical, Les Miserables is really a dramatic tale. Otherwise, it would not have had all those film adaptations in the past, if it were simply a singing marathon.
Also, the GGlobes Musical/Comedy category seems to imply that it is a lighthearted classification, although performance-wise, comedy and musicals are probably more difficult to do from the actor's point of view. It is probably easier to make people cry or feel intense than make people laugh and even more difficult to make hearts sing and to touch the soul because of the music and the drama. In Les Miserables, the movie musical, there is the confluence of drama, music, heart and soul!

I'm a little annoyed with that issue. It's got full-page portraits (yes, in the plural) of Daniel Day-Lewis and Jessica Chastain--and even that little nominated girl with the long name--but not Hugh. The band of small pictures of Oscar contenders on the cover (including Anne Hathaway) doesn't include Hugh, either. They really skimped on him.

I would have preferred that they said he's currently filming Prisoners instead! Sue

I completely agree! I picked up the Entertainment Weekly issue last night and was really upset by the limited coverage Hugh got. Look, I think Daniel Day Lewis is a fabulous actor, probably one of the best, but he got a full one page spread in the inside cover and then again during the Best Actor race section. How about spreading the wealth around a bit. He wasn't the only one. Jessica Chastain got the same treatment.
Also, I'm growing really tired of all the attention Anne Hathway is getting for her role. She's great as Fantine and she seems like a very nice person, so it's not a knock on her, but at the end of the day it's not her movie. In fact, it's not Hugh's either. It's everyone's movie. It would be nice if the media stopped treating Les Miserables like the vehicle that will win Anne Hathaway an Oscar.

Very funny. Thanks, Jo. I find it interesting that ads for PLAYBOOK are saturating the airwaves and seem to portray a heavy drama. I think the studio thinks a more "dramatic" serio-comedy has more gravitas and therefore a better shot at awards in what might be seen as a fluff category.

CNN analyzes the SAG Awards possibilities -- edition.cnn.com/2013/01/25/showbiz/sag-awards-preview/index.htmlSilver Linings Playbook is being touted at Goldderby as another solid favorite for Best Ensemble -- but everytime that possibility is mentioned in the same breath as Harvey Weinstein's name - it leaves a sour note in the air for me A Jackman win here over DayLewis opens up the Best Actor Race immensely, as the actors branch is the largest voting bloc at AMPAS!.
