I am out of town and was just able to get on for the first time. My husband told me my CD from Amazon was there. We don't get back till Monday and our tickets for the movie are on Tuesday at 12. Wait to see the movie first before listening to the CD, or pop it in as soon as I walk through the door? Just wanted some opinions. This is a real hard decision LOL.

I am also hoping for the full version, instead of just the Highlights.
However, I thought you all would want to know that Amazon is selling the mp3 version of the Highlights on their website for five bucks today.

Jackie I'm still holding out for the full version of the soundtrack and I still haven't watched that full video of One More Day. Got to save something for the main event. ;D The good news is... we have tickets for the movie at 10:30 Christmas morning!!!!! > > > So excited! Sue

I was thinking about holding out, too, when my daughter surprised me late last night with an email directing me to Amazon, where I could pick up the LES MIZ digital mp3. This was the last part of her Chanukah gift to me, albeit a little late. What an unexpected and delightful way to end the evening! Of course, it does seem incomplete, so i'll still be on the lookout for the deluxe or whatever other "complete" edition when it materializes. But this will do very nicely until then. Love how you can hear the roles being enacted and not just sung.

Haven't listened to it yet, still not sure if it will spoil the experience of the movie. Sue

You can also download to your iPod, mp3 player, and even burn to a CD should the need to drive down the freeway singing along with the cast arise. I do not recommend listening to the "Soliloquy" while driving. :'( Wow he does *such* an amazing job. I was so happy to have the mp3 album come out! Amazon screwed up my order, though happily not the 3 additional copies I bought as Xmas gifts. Just mine. > I was going to make an emergency trip to the mall on the Friday before XMas, but this worked out so much better! Now the trick is not to listen to it 1000 times between now and 10p on 12.24.

My sentiments exactly, Liz. As of now, I plan to go by myself to a nearby 10 PM show Monday night, and the next morning hubby and I are meeting our daughter at an east side movieplex, all the better to add--in however tiny a way--to the opening grosses. Happy holidays and happy LES MIZ-watching.

I can only grit my teeth and jaw with extreme jealousy - you know I won't be able to see it until mid-January My only lifesaver is for my CDs to arrive by December 28, as promised by Amazon ! But I am quite pleased that while I had some reservations that listening to the CD before the movie is seen might result in people being totally disatisfied with the acting cum singing -- it seems it is only some dyed-in-the-wool musical theatre purists ( whose views seem stultified - they don't seem to want to give the movie a chance ) are expressing er... musical superiority with things like pitch, Ab instead of B notes, chest voice instead of head voice, etc.!! Let them enjoy their misery Me - I am going to enjoy everything about this movie! Starry-eyed, maybe, but this has been so long in coming and to have it realized with my favorite actor -- what more can I ask for > Jo

Here's SUDDENLY, uploaded on YouTube ( hope nobody sees it and have it taken down) --- www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAyK-iEpesYAnd here are the lyrics --
Suddenly I see Suddenly it starts When two anxious hearts Beat as one. Yesterday I was alone Today you walk beside me Something still unclear Something not yet here Has begun. Suddenly the world Seems a different place Somehow full of grace And delight. How was I to know That so much love Was held inside me? Something fresh and young Something still unsung Fills the night. How was I to know at last That happiness can come so fast? Trusting me the way you do I’m so afraid of failing you Just a child who cannot know That danger follows where I go There are shadows everywhere And memories I cannot share Nevermore alone Nevermore apart You have warmed my heart Like the sun. You have brought the gift of life And love so long denied me. Suddenly I see What I could not see Something suddenly Has begun.
What a lovely lullaby-like song, filled with so much emotion as Hugh sings it! Can't wait for my CD to arrive soon !! Jo

I don't think Javert is meant to be a villain, but an antagonist to Valjean. As someone said to Russell, Javert is more Old Testament (legalististic), and Valjean is more New Testament (redemption/forgiveness). I'm loving the highlights album. Soliloquy and Bring Him Home make me weep. I've never been comfortable with that comparison, as I find it not only open to argument but also somewhat pejorative. Here is a different analysis of the character of Javert and how his perspective differs from that of Valjean. www.aish.com/ci/a/Les-Miserables-and-the-Bible.htmlEllen

Just got in from seeing Les Mis. What can I say. There are no words. Hugh, Anne and the whole cast were great. I've read a bunch of not so positive things about Russell. I think the critics are wrong!! Maybe I'm just not a good judge. We went to the first showing today and I'm glad we did. For the next showing, the line looked like a maze at Disney World. I'm so happy for everyone. They have a big hit (but we knew that already) >

My daughter got me the CD for Christmas (I had already downloaded it off iTunes but I didn't tell her that!) We're going to the 2:20 show this afternoon as we're both off.

Question about the CD: Played it in my car, but the TITLES do not appear on the audio readout - did anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering if mine is defective.
also, totally agree about Russell. While I've never been a big fan of his, I was very pleasantly surprised, and thought he did a good job with Javert's character. As for Hugh, the first 15 mins and last 15 mins of the movie would be enough for him to earn that Academy Award...let alone his entire performance. A+ (can't wait to see it again)

It is # 33 on the overall Music chart for Billboard.
It is #1 on the bestseller chart for all Music at Amazon.
It looks like people who have seen the movie immediately decide to get the soundtrack after being impressed with the film musical.
I wonder how the book is doing, too?

It's now # 2 on the Billboard 200 > www.billboard.com/news/taylor-swift-s-red-les-mis-soundtrack-lead-1008067172.story#/news/taylor-swift-s-red-les-mis-soundtrack-lead-1008067172.story--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taylor Swift's 'Red,' 'Les Mis' Soundtrack Lead Billboard 200 Chart by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | January 03, 2013 10:55 EST As forecasted last week, Taylor Swift's "Red" album spends a seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. In the sales week ending Dec. 30, 2012 -- the final frame of the year -- the Big Machine Records album sold 241,000 (down 12%) according to Nielsen SoundScan... It seems likely that "Red" will hang around at No. 1 for at least another week (if not more), as no new major albums were released this week. .. Below Swift this week on the chart is the fast-rising "Les Miserables" film soundtrack. The movie musical's companion album jumps from No. 33 to No. 2 with 136,000 sold and a whopping 218% sales gain. The set's 31-position jump is the largest to the top two since the Feb. 28, 2009 chart. That week, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand" rebounded 67 rungs from No. 69 to No. 2 after it won the Grammy Award for album of the year. The "Les Miserables: Highlights" soundtrack was released on Friday, Dec. 21 -- four days before the film arrived in U.S. movie theaters. In the week ending Dec. 23, the set sold 43,000 (with only two full days of sales). It was only natural for the album to see a big gain this week, after it had registered a full seven days' worth of availability and had the film's Christmas Day opening to help drive sales. "Les Miserables" stars Hugh Jackman and is based on the hit stage musical of the same name. According to Playbill, the Broadway show ran for 6,680 performances between 1987 and 2003 and is the fourth-longest running show in Broadway history. The last movie musical soundtrack to reach the top two on the Billboard 200 was "Hannah Montana: The Movie" album in May of 2009. It spent one week at No. 1 and seven weeks in the top two. The last adapted-from-a-stage-musical movie soundtrack to climb this high was "Mamma Mia!" in 2008, which rose to No. 1 for one week on Aug. 23 of that year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not so bad for singing that has been criticized by Lambert and message boards Hope the soundtrack will also be released locally in the overseas market. It is very expensive to get it from online stores like AMAZON - shipping plus customs duties can be prohibitive, esp if one wants it pronto! Jo

It continues to be # 1 bestseller on the Amazon Best-Seller list!
I think the demand will continue to be strong as the movie finds its long legs on its release path!

Yay - there is going to be a local release of the Soundtrack here in the Philippines! > It will be released on the same day as the release of the movie! And the price is only about a third of the Amazon price per CD > They are even offering to give a movie pass (very limited basis only) for one screening on the night before the regular movie release for a pre-order of the album! But I already have 3 straight days booked to see the movie before that, so I don't think I will even try to go to that advance screening - LOL! Jo
