I wonder -- will the Deluxe edition feature all the songs originally used in the movie, or will Tom and the musical director give the listeners other choices from other takes during filming? It will not be a true soundtrack, but it can certainly be a DELUXE edition!
The version of IDAD which landed in the movie was certainly different ( more muted and ultimately more poignant) than the more bombastic song in the teaser/trailer.
Looking forward to spending more money - ouch, ouch :'(

I got the MP3 from Amazon for $5, but I wanted the insert, so I purchased the physical CD...
I will purchase the physical CD of the Deluxe collection, as hopefully, the insert will have been equally expanded...
Though I probably will also purchase the MP3s also...

I came across this remarkable comment on a local message board here, which is devoted to Les Miserables -- "Suddenly is going to be the next big song for weddings. "and realized how the song can seep into the cultural consciousness. It is a breathtaking song...and can actually refer to love at first sight...and in the context of when two lovers take wedding vows, can be remarkable in its beauty! I know that a soon-to-be released album by Brit musical theatre/recording/concert stage star Michael Ball will include a cover of SUDDENLY. It is going to be released this month! I also checked out if there have been attempts at amateur covers, yet -- and there are some on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4kklLaHkWAwww.youtube.com/watch?v=R7aICvF_fmIwww.youtube.com/watch?v=WTSY3dwinukAnd how about this lovely piano cover and tutorial arrangements? It will probably also sound as gorgeous on guitar! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLY06aKA15cQuite a few out there! Jo

LES MIZ has been (re)added to the FORBIDDEN BROADWAY roster, specifically Hathaway's histrionics in "I Dreamed a Dream." Sounds like they're also taken "Bring It Down" out of mothballs to represent Hugh's plea to lower the key. (That parody number had been featured in a much earlier edition of the satiric review.) I don't know if they've tweaked the lyrics a bit to pertain to Hugh. Perhaps a return to the show is in order. www.nydailynews.com/2.1279/anne-hathaway-les-miz-inspires-parodies-pop-article-1.1252402Ellen

Question:"Your mother gave her life for you and left you in my keeping." Is this lyric cut from the film? Moved to another spot in the movie?

I think we heard about that change in focus in the lyrics during filming. I welcomed it because it made the conversion/redemption process for Valjean complete. To paraphrase the rationale for SUDDENLY -- "The Bishop had taught him the meaning of virtue; Cosette had now taught him the meaning of love"I have also just re-read the episode when they first found their small garret and it is quite poignant, in how it describes the coming together of father and child -- "She had been so young when her mother left her that she did not remember her...The sad fact is that at the age of eight her heart had been cold and untouched, not through any fault of hers or because she lacked the capacity to love, but because there had been no possibility of loving. But now, form the first day they were together, everything in her that could think and feel went out to this man. She experienced something that she had not known before, a sense of unfolding...
The gulf that nature had created between Valjean and Cosette, the gap of fifty years, was bridged by circumstance. The over-riding force of destiny united these two beings so sundered by the years and so akin in what they had lacked. Each fulfilled the other, Cosette with her instinctive need of a father, Valjean, with his instinctive need of a child.
For them to meet was to find, and in the moment their hands first touched, they joined. Seeing the other, each perceived the other's need. In the deepest sense of the words it may be said that in their isolation Jean Valjean had been a widower, as Cosette was an orphan; and in this sense he had become his father. Her instant trust of him that evening in the wood, when his hand had clasped her own, was, after all no delusion. The man's entry into the life of the child had truly been the coming of God..."In reality, the defacto parent of Cosette has been Valjean and any filial relationship had always been between adoptive father and child! I have been thinking -- I think I will reread the entire book once again, in full, after having see the movie musical adaptation. I think with the characters now come to life, I expect to see the book characters and their relationships to strike a slightly different nuance to me. I have now seen the movie in a cinema for five times...and with the soundtrack highlights, the images and the sounds are even more vivid. I think I will enjoy the story narrated by Victor Hugo even more. Les Miserables - I am not done with you, yet Jo

SOS!!
Does anyone have that photo still of Valjean and Cosette, at the moment after he gives her the doll and she asks " Will you be like a Papa to me?" and he says " I will be a father...and a mother... to you"... then swings her up in his arms, and with a beautiful smile lighting his face, lifts her and on to their future together!
I love that image - maybe my most poignant image in the movie, but I can't seem to find an online one.
Thanks in advance!

The picture of Valjean with Cosette is a marvelous picture. What is interesting is that I don't ever remember seeing that expression on Hugh's face before. He really is a great actor.

So true, his face just says it all! I love the picture too, it's been my desktop wallpaper since I first did the screen capture. Sue

The release of the BluRay disc and the DVD on March 22, 2013 has been announced through Entertainment Weekly -- insidemovies.ew.com/2013/02/12/les-miserables-blu-ray-release-d ate/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'Les Miserables' sets Blu-ray release date -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO by Jeff Labrecque What exactly is it about Les Misérables? Has any musical ever been so beloved? Based on Victor Hugo’s 19th-century novel, the stage musical about the redemption of prisoner Jean Valjean ran on Broadway for 16 years beginning in 1987 and was a worldwide sensation. Director Tom Hooper’s ambitious film adaptation has been a spectacular popular and critical success, grossing more than $144 million at the box office and earning eight Oscar nominations, including a nod for Best Supporting Actress frontrunner, Anne Hathaway. Fans of the musical flocked to theaters to watch Hugh Jackman’s heroic Valjean joust with Russell Crowe’s devious Javert, to see Hathaway sing the heartbreaking “I Dreamed a Dream,” and to vicariously stand atop the barricades on the eve of France’s 1832 revolution. On March 22, the experience comes home when Les Misérables arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand. Click below for an exclusive trailer for the new Blu-ray. Bonus Features Exclusive to the Blu-ray •Les Misérables Singing Live: The star-studded cast and production team discuss how the daunting challenge of singing live rather than lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks ultimately gave them the creative freedom to deliver nuanced, emotionally powerful performances. •Battle at the Barricade: Director Tom Hooper wanted the dramatic building of the barricade to be as visceral and intense as possible, so he had his actors build it in real time, literally hurling furniture out of windows to construct an actual barricade. This featurette takes an in-depth look at the creation and filming of all the action on this remarkable set. •The West End Connection: Meet the “godfather” of the original stage production of Les Misérables, renowned West End producer Cameron Mackintosh, who was deeply involved in the filming, as well as former Les Misérables, theatrical stars who were thrilled to appear in supporting roles in the current film. •Les Misérables on Location: Filming rather than staging Les Misérables presents the opportunity to shoot in real world locations: a massive dry dock on the coast of England, a beautiful underground chapel in the heart of London and the ancient city of Winchester. Members of the cast and crew talk about what it was like to find and work in these incredible locations. Bonus Features on Both the Blu-ray and DVD•The Stars of Les Misérables: Director Tom Hooper talks about casting the iconic characters, and the actors discuss why it was important to them to be a part of this groundbreaking version of Les Misérables. •Creating the Perfect Paris: Production designer Eve Stewart created a massive Paris set featuring real cobblestones and running water. Take an intricate look into the detailed recreation of these Paris streets that no longer exist in today’s world. •The Original Masterwork: Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables: This mini-documentary takes a look at the historical backdrop and universal themes of Hugo’s classic, and how the filmmakers mined the novel to enrich the look and feel of the film. •Feature Commentary with Director Tom Hooper --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the official press release from Universal Entertainment -- www.sacbee.com/2013/02/12/5184354/universal-studios-home-entertainment.htmlNo mention of the exclusives for Target. Has anyone bought DVDs with exclusives ( like the Target one)for other movies ... and how did you find them? Or are these just crafted together from previous press releases or interviews or other publications ( e.g., are the postcards of the Vogue photographs officially sanctioned?). I am trying to figure out if I should go out of my way to get a copy -- it is not shipping internationally, and on the very slight chance I can have someone take home one for me ( but I need to pay for same-day shipping on top of the basic cost of $ 27.99 plus tax, if any-- and this could be a pretty hefty bill), I would like to assess that the Target exclusives are worthwhile. Also, I have already ordered the book by Nightingale and Palmer ( from Amazon.co.uk, which is shipping it way ahead, compared to the US site ) and could it be a duplication? Thanks for any info. There is no Director's cut in the forthcoming release, but there is speculation that Tom Hooper may put together one eventually ( he was a little hesitant about it when asked directly). Les Miserables is certainly making my pocketbook miserable - LOL! ;D :'( Jo

I just learned from Target.com that if you order the deluxe edition online using your Target Red Card (that's the regular Target credit card), you not only get FREE SHIPPING but also FIVE PERCENT OFF your purchase. Tax applies, however. Pretty good deal.

Full /Deluxe Soundtrack for release in the UK on March 18. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21472978----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15 February 2013 Last updated at 11:36 GMT Les Miserables soundtrack: 'deluxe' edition planned An expanded, two-disc edition of the soundtrack to the film version of Les Miserables will be released next month.
The complete Motion Picture Soundtrack will have 22 more tracks than the Highlights edition currently available.
Available in both physical and digital formats, the full soundtrack will be available from Polydor from 18 March. The Highlights edition, which has 20 tracks in all, currently tops the UK album chart and is the fastest-selling album in the UK this year. "Post-production on the Les Miserables film was extremely tight, with recording of the orchestra, final edit and sound mix having to be completed in only a few weeks," said producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh. "There was only enough time to remix a limited number of tracks so that at least a highlights album could be released for the fans before Christmas. "We are delighted with the success of that album and very pleased that we can now add 22 more tracks." The new record's release, he continued, meant "that audiences can now enjoy at home a full representation of the film's powerful and emotional version of this great score".
The new CD packaging will feature previously unseen photos from the film set as well as additional explanatory notes.Directed by Tom Hooper, the film version of the long-running stage success stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne. The box-office hit was honoured with four Bafta film awards on Sunday and will be up for eight Oscars at the Academy Awards on 24 February. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is now available on Pre-Order at Amazon.co.uk, in case anyone is interested. Hope it is released in the USA and not just treated by Amazon.com as an Import.
I have occasionally purchased items from Amazon.co.uk and they have an unusual policy for pricing. Like in the case for the Les Miserables deluxe soundtrack edition, the list price is GBP 14.76, but when you send in a pre-order, the committed price is GBP 12.30.
They have done this in almost all of my past pre-orders. I am not sure if the same policy applies to orders when the item has actually been released.
EDIT : Someone has told me that the discount is probably the VAT which I don't have to pay as I am not from the EU.
