Too bad the LES MIZ soundtrack wouldn't qualify as Hugh's win if it wins a Grammy. That would put him three quarters of the way to EGOT.

Today was the first time that I listened to the soundtrack intently and without any distractions -- usually, I would have the album playing while I am on my keyboard or reading something or some other thing where my attention is not fully focused. The first time I listened to it - it was the only one vying for my attention but I was too excited to appreciate any nuances!
Today, I played SUDDENLY three times -- I am so taken with it -- it starts slow and a little hesitant -- but then it goes into a full expression of Valjean's stunning discovery of his feelings and attachment to his newfound daughter. Without one line referencing to the father/daughter relationship, it can actually be rewritten a little to sing a song about love at first sight! Beautiful, beautiful --- I hope the Oscar voters see it not only for the beauty of melody and lyrics but also because it relates fully to the story ( one of the Oscar criteria for best new song)...and actually advances the storyline, much like songs in a stage musicals do ! How many other original film songs serve that purpose so well?
Apart from Hugh's interpretation ( which reminds me a little of the "my little girl..." part in The Soliloquy from Carousel) - I am also awaiting Michael Ball's interpretation of the song. He is also a high baritone and does very well with this kind of song. He did say that he is planning to include SUDDENLY in his next album.

I just listened to the soundtrack this morning. I listened once before I saw the movie and I have to say I appreciated it even more this morning. I could picture the scenes and the numbers brought a tear to the eye several times. I have to get to a theater somehow to see the movie again. I never thought it would take me this long but with being sick bus travel has been out of the question. Well, that and not wanting to infect 100s of people. Hearing the soundtrack just strengthened my resolved to get to a theater sometime in the next week. Jo, you're so right in your interpretation of Suddenly. It's one of my favorite moments in the movie even with so many to choose from. Seeing him singing it to the sleeping child up on the big screen will surely do you in!!! I can't wait to see him do it on Academy Awards night! I wonder if Issy will be there to lay in his lap! Sue

A lot of buzz about the Adele song for Skyfall -- but is it only because it is flashy and she sings/composed it? How does it relate to the movie? Many Bond songs are popular hits but they usually do not win Oscars because they do not have any bearing to the movie to which they are attached. Many say that Suddenly is too quiet -- not as flashy as the other Les Mis songs -- but if you listen to the melody and lyrics, they touch the right cords to the storyline and the characters. I hope the voters (not sure if this is the entire AMPAS or just the music branch) will be more discerning. If the song is going to be performed live -- I have also been thinking that it might be a good idea if Hugh and Issy are both onstage! How can people resist such charming people in a very tender moment Jo

How can people resist such charming people in a very tender moment Jo I was very excited to see that Suddenly was nominated. Hugh was asked in one of the several interviews he's done about the hopes for the song being nominated (the interviewer also joking that a new song was written just for the possibility of an Oscar). Hugh said he hoped very much that it was nominated so that he can sing it on awards night. Something else to hope for/look forward to! Jennifer

Skyfall is nominated in the 50th anniversary year for Bond. Probably some favorability there. It is a good song. It just doesn't really have anything to do with the movie.

I placed a pre-order at Amazon, because I think they ship your item(s) in the order in which the orders are taken. We don't have actual BLU-RAY releases here -- hopefully a DVD release will come if the movie is popular enough. But on the precautionary side, I did place a pre-order for both formats. What makes the order more costly are the customs duties one has to pay, which unfortunately also includes the cost of shipping ( as they base the taxable amount on landed cost). Shipping more than doubles the cost, unless you want it to arrive 2 months after release ( in which delivery cost is close to 50%). But this is Les Miserables and Hugh Jackman -- this will be my most awaited pre-order to-date > Jo

I don't know if prime works in other countries. I think the UK has a separate Amazon but I don't know about Asia etc. This movie is making me very grateful to live here. Sorry you have to wait some more Jo. Sue

I really have to stop listening to the soundtrack at work. It looks weird when I am looking into papers and suddenly my eyes are teary ;D I love "One Day More" more and more. The same with "Bring Him Home". Also, I started to appreciate "Suddenly" I can´t wait to hear Hugh singing it at the Oscars (which he will, hopefully)

According to the Webmistress of ALL THAT CHAT/TALKIN' BROADWAY ( it has a tieup with Amazon because you can purchase items through them) - the projected/supposed release date of the DVD/BluRay is March 19!www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat/d.php?id=2116494Will this include a Director's Cut? Btw, the DVD/BluRay is rated # 1 among Movies for Drama and also separately for Musicals. It is ahead of all the other Oscar contenders) in the Drama category ( Argo, SLP, etc) and # 20 for all Movies! Jo

It looks like the Blu-Ray will be a combo 2-disc release, including both a Blu-ray disc and a DVD --
I have no idea what Ultraviolet means ...I am at the lowest rung of techies, if at all ;D
On Amazon, it is tracking as # 8 for all movies and of course # 1 in musicals and dramas!

Ultraviolet gives you a cloud-based copy, jo.
I,too, ordered the Two-Disc Combo Pack: Blu-ray + DVD because studios have developed this weird habit of releasing the bonus features on the Blu-Ray discs.

That's wonderful news--I just hope it doesn't rankle those who've already plunked down some bucks for the CD. I'd love to see the "deluxe" CD atop Billboard's charts, too. Would have been nice if they'd done it right in the first place! Still, I'm looking forward to getting the "deluxe" one, too.

Ellen I have a feeling that they didn't expect the reception it's gotten, Ellen. For a not perfectly studio performed soundtrack it is a very good response. I think it sounds great! I got the cheaper mp3 version so I'm good to go for the full CD. Sue
