Love that Kelly named two of my all-time favorites, John McMartin and of course Hugh. I remember one TBFO performance that necessitated a quick rehearsal by Stephanie's understudy (perhaps Kelly...?) , who was unexpectedly going on for the first time in the role of Liza. Those of us waiting at the stage door were alerted by its late, colorful watchdog Kevin that Hugh had arrived early to rehearse with her. He didn't have to do so but wanted to make her feel more at ease. What a pro--and what a mensch.

A recent interview from Hugh's former acting teacher at WAAPA...who had seen Hugh in THE RIVER.
Will Hugh ever do King Lear?

Liev Schreiber has been described as the finest American theatre actor of his generation by Ben Brantley of The New York Times -- www.nytimes.com/2007/03/12/theater/reviews/12talk.html?pagewanted=all&_r=He won a TONY for Glengarry Glen Ross, and was nominated for Talk Radio and A View from the Bridge. He is a very fine actor and he has also won film and TV acting awards. And...and he was really hateful as the villainous Victor ( Sabretooth) in XMEN Origins: Wolverine Jo

I was looking for my hard copy files on the TBFO reviews and later articles and found something from Liz Smith. She shared this about Lauren Bacall, in an article about Hugh and TBFO --

So, Bardem was not really in serious contention for the role.

It looks like Broadwaycon was held on Broadway despite the bad weather. Or was that Friday?
The New York Times reporter who must have covered it tweeted this --
