In costume - that cast ( including the Barricade Boys) will stun that audience and make them sorry if they had not voted for Les Miserables as Best Picture!!
I hope they also blow away all the naysayers ( from movie audience unbelievers to musical theatre purists) with their ability to sing live and on stage!

I wonder if they will be in costume though? I can't wait to see it no matter what! I hope the Les Miserables part is after the Dreamgirls & Chicago part so we can have the thrill of watching them bring down the house!!! > :-/ :P I guess if they do it chronologically it will be! I think watching them all perform live will make all the voters who voted without seeing the movie wish they had done it the right way! Sue

Just guessing, of course, or maybe because I see things with Les Mis-colored glasses ;D
But I am getting the feeling that the supposed Musicals Tribute portion is just a camouflage on the part of producers Meron and Zadan -- that it is being used to really feature Les Miserables very prominently -- without any Best Picture nominee complaining about fairness ?? It looks like Catherine Zeta Jones and Jennifer Hudson will be performing solos while Les Miserables will be featuring quite a large cast and maybe singing not just an ensemble song but could also feature a medley of key solos?

iphone.eonline.com/article?id=390480Towards the end of the interview, Eddie mentions that they will be rehearsing for the Oscars "tomorrow" -- is that today? Oldtimers to live singing on stage -- Hugh, Anne, Samantha, Aaron, Amanda ( 2009 Oscars). Newbies for live singing on stage ( musical theatre style) -- Russell, Eddie, Helena, Sacha. Former Oscars hosts -- Hugh and Anne ( have performed and commentated at the Oscars) Jo

It is going to be ONE DAY MORE and Anne performing I DREAMED A DREAM, according to Baz Bamigboye -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Samantha Barks, who gave her final performances as Nancy in Oliver! on stage in Bristol on Wednesday night. She arrived in LA yesterday and headed straight off to rehearse a Les Miserables musical number along with co-stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Helena Bonham Carter. It’s part of a huge musical celebration (as revealed here first!). They’ll be singing One Day More, while Hathaway will perform I Dreamed A Dream. Director and choreographer Rob Ashford will be putting the actors through their paces. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2282548/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Fre sh-Les-Mis-Anne-rock-chick.html I guess since Fantine is not part of One Day More, they have decided to add I Dreamed a Dream ( again, I am not happy with this one -- it may be a popular song but it is not anthemic to Les Miserables )...I guess the producers wanted something that will draw in more viewers. Hugh's singing parts in ONE DAY MORE is not really much. The song really belongs to Enjolras and Marius! I hope the plans for live performing of the nominated songs pushes through so he can sing a full musical number (SUDDENLY) during the show! We'll see... Jo

At least his part in that is a chance to belt out a few notes! I wonder if they are going to choreograph it like the stage version?? Can't think of any other way they would do it. I guess it's only fair that Anne gets a moment to shine but I'm really sick of that song now! Sue

But if they are, Hugh best not be wearing that godforsaken wig! Even without costume, it should be a show stopper and I can't wait. Also, with Hugh's lack of rehearsal time, it makes sense he is in an ensemble number. They have to capitalize on IDOD...like it or not, it's turned into the movie's signature piece. Why a musically oriented Oscar's? Les Mis gives a great excuse, but what came first, the producers plan for a musical awards show or the failure of Les Mis to garner a BP award nomination?

The producers have a musicals background - they did produce Chicago and Hairspray...and I think they may have also done some producing of Broadway musicals. Hence, their love of musicals was a given when the AMPAS decided to get them to take care of this year's ceremonies. Hugh once had a chance to work with them when Disney was still part of a 3-musicals deal for Hugh and Meron and Zadan were producing. I think that was supposed to include Guys and Dolls and If You Could See Me Now. The deal with Zadan and Meron fell through when Disney separated from the Miramax tieup. Not so sure but this is my recollection. The producers are also connected with the TV show SMASH.
Les Miserables is one of the nine Best Picture nominees!

I was hoping it could be One Day More. I just hope IDAD won´t be sang as a whole thing because it wouldn´t make any sense. It is not a nominated song and ODM is just more representative and better says what are Les Miz about. Hugh´s part in it is small but the few lines he has will show his singing abilities.

So unless Hugh sings "Suddenly," the only LES MIZ cast member to have a solo will be Anne? It figures. Ellen

And don't we wish, Kelly, that Les Miserables is getting the frontrunner buzz that ARGO is getting One thing I have learned after my first year of being constantly exposed to all the politicking for awards (via all those media coverage, message board discussions, and film site blogs, not to mention all the publicity and FYC ads) -- is that the Oscar statuette has lost its real shine to me! I would have been better off not knowing what goes on behind the scenes. I cannot believe that Oscar wins are equated to what Weinstein's money can deliver or for the influence that Spielberg can exert! For one, many have said that DDL became frontrunner when he was announced for the role - so is it Abraham Lincoln himself, America's beloved president, and not DDL who is really being honored? Someone criticized Hugh for his entrance at Letterman's show for being disrespectful to the US president! But Hugh was simply parodying DDL, who parodied Lincoln in the movie. If the overt efforts of Spielberg ( that GGlobes Clinton initiative worked out by him, the Time cover, the White House screening) had not been involved, would the movie and the actor have left the chances of others relatively weaker? I hope Hugh is moving on from all this circus -- he has worked hard enough delivering the monumental role ...and has also been asked to lead the tremendous publicity effort to promote the movie release and the Oscar campaign. I hope what he takes away from all this is that his worth has now been established ( Who can question that he is now one of the most, if not the most, versatile talent in Hollywood???) and that it motivates him to bringing us even more memorable roles! End of rant Jo

On to more pleasant, if a little uncertain, thoughts -- I hope Deadline Hollywood has given us the accurate information on the plans of the producers for Oscar night. www.deadline.com/2013/02/oscars-ceremony-producers-want-to-uphold-tradition-and-modernize/#more-430260I just find it strange that the producers are not making direct announcements and capitalizing on the fact that this section will feature very popular entertainment figures! Wow - if you can get Adele, Norah Jones, Scarlett Johannsson/Joshua Bell, the Indian talent Bombay Jayrashi...and Hugh Jackman ( who hosted one of the most hailed Oscars show...let alone, a current Best Actor nominee) -- that is such a coup! So, why are they not making a big media deal of it ( and reassure us that Hugh will have a solo number - LOL!) ;D Does this sound like another rant - Haha!! Jo

What struck me thinking about this is the analogy of how it is when fans are in love with a public figure only to find, upon digging deeper, that perception is not reality. Since my first viewing of TBFO in 2004 I have marvelled how Hugh Jackman has exceeded my initial impression and expectations as a human being 1000%. Hater's be damned. Hugh is the real deal.

I really hope that Anne isn't singing I Dreamed a Dream. I don't think that's fair to the rest of the cast. They should sing a song that they can all participate in, period. It shouldn't be one person's moment. Jennifer Hudson sang her little heart off in Dreamgirls, and they didn't have her sing at the Oscars, even though she was nominated and won for that performance. Why should Anne get special treatment?
I'm hoping the media accounts of this are wrong, but I guess we won't know until Sunday.

Jo That's becoming an issue with me too...why can't someone announce whether Hugh is singing the nominated song. Hello Oscar planners & media people...there are several other songs nominated besides Skyfall and some of them actually have something to do with the movie they represent! Seems like Skyfall, DDL, Anne, Spielberg are such sure things that they forget to talk about the rest. I have to say that if they hadn't been talking about Anne as a sure thing since around June, I would have thought Sally Field would have been a contender. I really liked her performance in Lincoln. I even mentioned previously that I liked her performance a bit more that DDL's! But all these sure things just blur the picture. And don't even get me started on finding out that many voters don't even watch all the nominated films. Like you, Jo this year has been a revelation to me and not at all in a good way! Sue

Les Miserables fans who’ve longed for the stars of the Oscar-nominated film to join forces in a live performance will see their wish come true this Sunday at the Academy Awards. At rehearsals for the show Friday, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, Aaron Tveit, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter took part in a massive production number made up of a medley from the film, including the Oscar-nominated original song “Suddenly.”They weren’t alone. It was a Les Mis reunion in more ways than just the movie … The chorus for the performance was made up of cast members who’ve appeared in a number of different versions of the show around the world, including the U.S. tour, the most recent Broadway revival, the production in London’s West End, and the Hollywood Bowl concert. “What an amazing way to end one of the most extraordinary years in Les Mis history. The old girl still has plenty of life in her at 28,” said Cameron Mackintosh, producer of the stage show and film, who was helping coordinate the presentation. Also lending a hand was the film’s director, Tom Hooper, who popped forward between each rehearsal of the number to consult with Jackman and Hathaway. In the film, they occasionally sang duets, but ensemble songs tended to feature each actor cut together in montage from a different location, as with “One Day More.” The Oscars will mark the first time the major stars from the cast have performed as a group. At least they’ve each got experience singing their numbers live, since Hooper nixed the use of lip-synched tracks during the shoot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *At least, Hugh gets to sing even if only a part of Suddenly. Maybe the nominated songs will not be featured as a group, but integrated with some of the other numbers ( like Adele singing Skyfall in the tribute to Bond). *I wonder what the medley will include? We know Suddenly and One Day More will be there -- will I Dreamed A Dream be there, too? Or other solos or duets? *It seems it will be a huge number - apart from the main players ( which include the barricade boys), it will be supplemented by other former or current stage actors. *I am glad that Tom Hooper has a say in this staging -- I was a little concerned when Baz B reported that it will be directed by Rob Ashford. Maybe Tom is teaming up with Rob so as not to lose the spirit of the movie musical? I wonder how many seconds SUDDENLY is going to get Jo

At Oscar rehearsals -- www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/02/22/3871737/adele-les-miserables-cast-sing.html----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adele, `Les Miserables' cast sing on Oscar stage By SANDY COHEN AP Entertainment Writer Posted: Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 A seating placard of actor Hugh Jackman for 85th Academy Awards are seen inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. The Academy Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.LOS ANGELES It was an extra starry, musical day at the Dolby Theatre. Adele took the stage first Friday, followed by the cast of "Les Miserables," singing together of the first time. Oscar nominees Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, along with co-stars Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham-Carter, Sasha Baron-Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Barks rehearsed their performances on the Oscar stage. They were backed by members of the musical's stage productions from London and Broadway. "Les Miserables" director Tom Hooper sat in the front row of the theater as his cast sang... Just after Adele wrapped, the star-studded "Les Miserables" cast took the stage. Hathaway chatted with Bonham-Carter as Jackman sang a capella. Then Hathaway checked her microphone with a quick verse. "Ooh, that was flat," she said. The entire cast assembled for a final run-through when Jackman spontaneously began singing "My Bonny Lies over the Ocean." "My bonny lies over my daddy," the ensemble responded, breaking into laughter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Love the photo/placard - Hugh Jackman is really the Best Actor/Performer in the world !! Why is Adele performing her nominated song all by herself ( with all the bells and whistles) while Hugh's Suddenly is only part of a medley of the Les Miserables number The camaraderie of the major cast continues to show even after Les Miserables has been released in cinemas! They must have enjoyed their time together! It may sound whimsical - but I would like to see them or some of them act together again in another film! Jo

Jo, Whatever happens Sunday, it sounds like the cast has bonded so well that they'll have a great time. They'll make a great cheering section for Hugh, Anne, and LES MIS. I'm feeling the good vibes, no matter who goes home with the gold statues.

It also seems like they are importing other Les Mis alumni since I saw a couple tweets by barricade boys mentioning Ramin Karimloo who was Enjolras in the 25th Ann. concert and has played various other parts in West End productions too. So he's in LA for something??? Haven't seen any mentions of Hadley Fraser but it would be fun if he was included. I just hope it's a well designed number that shows why people all over the world love Les Miserables. Sue
