And please tell me --
What was all the fuss about SKYFALL (I have heard it before and could not find anything spectacular with it, compared to previous Bond songs)??
What was the fuss over Adele -- Shirley Bassey, with her mature voice, was still enough to draw a standing ovation with her GOLDFINGER! There was more showmanship in that rendition worthy of the early Bond movies ( I am with the Connery related fanbase - stories, acting, spectacle, and music) and the Oscar crowd recognized her singing with a standing ovation. I think the Adele song did not impress the crowd too much - no ovation!
Still crossing my fingers that AMPAS will do the right thing and give the song that is fully contextualized in the movie (Suddenly)the honor!

She may be in her 70's -- but Barbra is the true song diva!!! Lovely, lovely voice even in her mature years!

I'm on my way to bed! Very disappointing show on several counts. Will discuss tomorrow. Here's the best & most enjoyable part of the Oscar show for anyone who wants to download it: youtu.be/Yl7k3dUvWtQ Enjoy, Sue

Overall, I enjoyed the show very much. My favorite segments of course were the musical highlights from Chicago, Dreamgirls, and especially Les Mis!! And I loved seeing Shirley Bassey and my idol, Barbra! It would have been a perfect night if Hugh had won. I still loved seeing him there as a nominee.

Seth M. had a very fine line to balance: please the FAMILY GUY set (he did so with "The Boob Song" and certain edgy jokes) and yet pay homage to classic Hollywood (the song-and-dance numbers near the beginning of the show). I also liked his and Kristen Chenoweth's use of the Sinatra tune, "Here's to the Losers" at the end. On the whole, I thought SM acquitted himself fairly well.
Loved the homages to semi-recent film musicals (esp. LES MIZ, of course--loved how it began with "Suddenly"), and Barbra was in better voice than she was at the Village Vanguard a year or so ago, as captured on PBS.
I could not help but feel pleased that SLP managed only one win, while LES MIZ garnered three.
Ah, gentlemanly Hugh tried to help Jennifer Lawrence up after her spill. But she righted herself just before he reached her.
Did anyone else notice how oddly Meryl Streep announced the Best Actor? I never saw her open an envelope; she just seemed to pick the winner herself, LOL. And then one camera tried to get a reaction shot from Hugh at the same time as another camera was trying to show all the nominees, who ended up not getting their visual due because of Streep's actions. So strange. Ah, well, I knew even a tie was too much to hope for. But Hugh and Deb looked snappy and happy. Nice!

That Les miserables segment was fantastic. Hugh looked incredibly handsome and as he walked on the stage, you could tell he belonged there. I love Charlize Theron. Barbra Streisand, also great. Jennifer Hudson? Not so much. I am sort of sorry Hugh didn´t win but it was expected and it was obvious that he was just enjoying to be there. I think Meryl gave the presentation exactly the sort of tone that it deserved - this year´s line up was stunning and to see all their clips (except Cooper´s yelling, I just disliked it and the movie because of it), made me proud of Hugh because he certainly was up there, with all of them. DDL´s joke about him playing Margaret Thatcher was funny because he was so serious and suddenly said this...he is a classy Brit. I still think Hugh or Joaquin (who looked like he didn´t give a damn ) were better but what can I do? Hugh will get his chance, maybe already next year

I think on the whole the show sucked.
Liked Bab's loved Les Miz but can Anne just go away now, please? Hugh was totally awesome in his rightful spot - center stage. As for the final outcome on best actor award, I demand a recount

I liked all of the musical segments, but was a little disappointed in Adele. She didn't seem balanced with the instruments. Seth wasn't funny, and was on the edge of being rude. John Wilkes Booth joke? Really?. Loved Shirley B., Jennifer Hudson, Barbara, and most of all, the LES MIS segment. Hugh's eyes really sparkled! The awards were not what I hoped, but as I expected. I think Meryl opened the envelope during the clips to save time, as they were running late.

Hugh looked wonderful. deb is nice but she needs a designer I hate to say it but she has the handsomest man alive and dresses very oddly sorry folks but it is true don't jump on me After nobody has commented on this I have to. Comments like these are completely unnecessary and make me angry! They are even worse than all those hateful tweets against her, because it comes from a fan! If I think someone is nice, I don't bash this person on a public (!) board! Do you know his and Deb's interviews about this issue? You think Hugh would like it if you diss his wife publicly on the web? Deb HAD a designer! She wore a beautiful Tom Ford tux and looked stunning. It's not odd at all to wear a tux instead of a dress as a woman, if you mean that. I love her pantsuit, her hair, her make-up, her jewelry - everything!

I also think Deb looked great. They were truly a good loking couple. Yes, Meryl´s envelope was already open and she had glasses on so she obviously looked into it during the last clip. I was like "wtf" first as well, but then I noticed the envelope in her hands was open. Did you notice how Hugh grabbed Deb´s hand when they introduced the movie? Anne also took her husband´s hand. I wish Hugh could host again. Nothing seems to compare to it because he was first who came with the musical number and everybody who follow him just seem to copy him. Billy Crystal singing last year was painful to listen. Also, how everybody suddenly seems to try to show their ability to sing and dance? Well, guess what, Hugh was the first actor nominated for a musical after 30 years. What does it say? I didn´t have probelms with Seth´s hosting but he seemed a little "too professional", like there was no spontaneaous joy Hugh had. Also, the joke about "look how Jean Dujardin is everywhere" was stupid. Jean does a lots of movies in France. It doesn´t mean that when someone isn´t in Hollywood, he doesn´t work Anyway, DDL was very classy and funny, so I don´t mind. Especially since Hugh looked like he was just enjoying the whole thing, not really expecting anything. He will get that Oscar eventually

The neckless Deb was wearing was magnificent. She has her own style and the confidence to wear it. Love that they refer to themselves as The Tom Ford couple. The Les Mis could have gone on for the whole show.

Like/Love: Shirley Bassey, Barbra and the entire Les Mis performance. I love how it got the biggest ovation of the night, which was well deserved because it was the best performance by far. Might be a silly thing but...I love the suit Hugh was wearing during the Les Mis performance. Look at the close ups-during Suddenly when he he says "yesterday I was alone..." and the camera closes in and then "these men who seem to know my crime..." shows it even better. May be the most beautiful jacket and on Hugh it's even more beautiful because he wears it so well. Ever gallant Hugh rushing to aid Jennifer when she fell was so lovely even though she righted herself quickly he gets the chivalry award of the night. I like the way they were able to incorporate Anne into the Les Mis production without having to endure the whole IDaD number. Dislikes: The opening was far too long and had very little to do with the movies, especially the contenders and other movies that succeeded in 2012. The opening would have been fine if this were what we used to call a variety show. For me it was all wrong for an Oscar show. I thought it looked more like it should have been called the Seth Macfarland(?) Variety Hour. As much as I'm a Star Trek fan, I could have done without Shatner in the silly time travel bit. I thought a lot of his jokes were not funny and some tasteless. Also he was far too enamored with himself. I know Hugh will say he was wonderful, he would say nothing less about anyone, but I'm not as good as Hugh so, except for a couple moments, I didn't care for SM. He is talented at singing and dancing and if he had more appropriate material I would lave enjoyed that. But seriously??? Saw Your Boobs??? I thought some of the schtick by some presenters was also too long and tacky. But the tackiest most tasteless bit was playing Jaws music when someone ran over their time. Fortunately only a couple had to endure that. The rest probably hurried in order to avoid it. I hated that Catherine Zeta Jones lip sang her number. Skyfall!!! When Adele was singing I paid attention to the words and not only did it not have anything to do with the movie, the words don't even make sense! I think that award should be retitled Most Popular Singer because that's what the award was really about. I have heard her do some great numbers but I don't think her rendition or the song itself deserved any award. I actually saw one headline this morning online somewhere that said "Adele wins best song!"...kind of proved my point! The creators of the show really blew the whole Best Song presentation. If they were going to have any of the songs sung completely, (forgone conclusions or not) they should have had them all sung completely...although the snippet of Scarlett singing her song was enough to make me glad I didn't have to hear the whole thing. Still it should have been all or none!! They could have done them all with snippets running with bits of their movies...but I am glad that Hugh got to sing at least part of Suddenly! When Best Actor was announced I seriously thought Meryl hadn't even opened the envelope. I screamed at my TV! Of course I hated the outcome of that too! I hated that the nominations and the awards themselves were all over the place. How could Les Miserables be nominated for sound mixing and not sound editing? How did Spielberg not win when by not nominating Tom, Ben & Tarantino they really cleared a path directly to him! I'm not saying he was the best last year I'm just saying that Ang Lee wasn't and the best didn't even get nominated! Just more of the mystery the Oscar process has become. I hear that Kristin did get to do her number but I missed it. I turned off the TV when DDL was announced plus I thought it would be cut since the show was running long. If it was good I hope someone has a link to it somewhere. I know there are a couple likes & dislikes I'm forgetting. I actually was flipping over to Doctor Who Revisited a few times during the show so there may have been even more if I had watched the whole thing! LOL! I know that Hugh will win someday, but unfortunately, I don't think I care about any of the awards shows anymore. I've been losing interest in them for years but this past year just did me in. I'll be glad if he wins but I may not watch any of them again unless he's on them. Sue

Likes: -Les Miz segment with Hugh as the only one on stage at first -Hugh and Deb on the front row -Hugh trying to help Jennifer Lawrence when she fell -Jaws music to play off winners who stayed at podium too long -Seth did well and the show overall was good especially the musical numbers Dislikes: -Meryl should have opened the envelope like normal...that was a strange moment for her to just blurt out the winner -I am not a political person at all...but thought it was also a strange moment for Michelle Obama to announce the Best Picture Winner by satellite...it took away from the big moment when a legendary star (in this case...Jack Nicholson) announces the Best Picture. It was very odd because Michelle Obama is not in the film industry and she was not there in person....plus I thought those envelopes were under lock and key and arrive at the ceremony via two different secret cars..so it was strange to see the envelope opened at a place other than the ceremony...I would feel the same way even if my favorite celebrity/politician/king/queen/etc. had opened the Best Picture Envelope in a remote location....that moment should take place on the Oscar stage

I really hope the producers hire a host next year that has a lot more taste and class. I was very disappointed with the tone of this year's show. The Oscars should be held to a higher standard.
