Probably not an official movie poster - maybe a one-sheet for purposes of advertising the movie at this particular convention. Although if filming is starting in January, it is not really that far to go before news on the movie becomes more widespread.

There is some similarity to the poster for The Prestige -- Or was it DECEPTION ? Unless you were referring to a non-Jackman movie? Jo

I was thinking a non-Hugh movie, though I really can't place it. I thought it may have been one of the Bourne films but I can't find any of their posters that match. It's possible I'm just going crazy. - Alicia

Alicia, it reminds me a little bit of the Taken posters. Same kind of..."I'll do ANYTHING to get my daughter back" look on their faces.

A lot of comparisons are being made with TAKEN because of the supposed vigilante themes.
But I think PRISONERS, apart from the thriller aspect, is more of a character study of the various personalities in the story, most especially that of Keller!
Can an upright, Bible-reading citizen go the way he did, even if he was intensely provoked by his desire to get back his daughter and to exact some form of retribution.
I need to read the script again, as filming comes closer on the schedule. I wonder if there have been rewrites in the script/screenplay?

Hey Jo, I wasn't comparing the storylines because they are very different. The only reason I put the posters on was just in case that was what Alicia was trying to think of. She's going crazy trying to think of what other movie poster the Prisoners one reminds her of.

Not the 'Taken' ones, but thank you nevaeh! I'm probably just going crazy. It happens to the best (and sometimes worst!) of us. Thank you, though. I never mind a little Liam Neeson mixed with my Hugh. - Alicia

Jo I get that whenever I tell someone about Prisoners...sounds like Taken. But you're right Jo, it's a much more complex character study. Taken was more action driven whereas Prisoners will be character driven. Keller, Loki, the aunt and Dano's character (have to look up the name) will all combine to make a compelling dramatic story. Even the background characters seem to be pretty well defined. I need to read it again too to get the names right I think 'the aunt' has a name too. ;D Sue

Nevaeh, No, I didn't mean to comment on the use of the TAKEN images I just remembered how often I have come across feedback about the supposed similarity of the movie themes, which has also been mentioned by Sue. I have seen it on many film sites, even by film bloggers themselves. To the point that I sometimes find it a little annoying - LOL! It smacks of ignorance of the PRISONERS's more complex storyline. I guess not too many know how well-rated the PRISONERS script was when it came out. It was on the famous BLACK LIST - a list of the BEST UNPRODUCED scripts rated by producers and other Hollywood decision-makers. I think this was in 2009 -- and as a commentary on how good it impressed these people, they rated it # 4. The SOCIAL NETWORK was # 2 at that time on the list! THE KING'S SPEECH only made it to # 58. I have seen the first TAKEN and, no offense meant, but I thought it was nothing more than a bang-bang thriller, in the tradition of the Mel Gibson/Danny Clover and the Bruce Willis movie cop thrillers. And Sue - I have to reread the script, partly to give the main supporting characters their names, too ;D Jo

No worries Jo! ;D I understand and agree with your feelings regarding people thinking this is going to be like Taken. I find those that have read the script and have made comments on some different sites have said it has echoes more of "Silence of the Lambs" and "Seven". I'm not sure if they'll keep the same character names as in the script, but Dano's role would be Alex Jones and Leo's role would be Holly Jones.

Wow -- this is beginning to look like such a great acting cast. I wonder what role ( of substance) will Viola play? It will be a reunion for the Duke Leopold of Albany and the lady cop who chided him for his dog's streetside manners Jo

I think Viola Davis is an amazing actress, but I cannot look at her without hearing, 'Pick up the poop!' I'm also curious what role she'll play. I don't remember any other female leads. Could she be Keller's wife? Because that's the only other female role I can think of, unless they've done a rewrite to included new characters. But like you mentioned Jo; her role will more than likely be a bigger part and I just don't recall Keller's wife being that prominent. Maybe someone who's read the script more recently than I would be better at speculating. lol

Thanks so much Barbara for the update! Wow, they're definitely going with an "Oscar" cast here that's for sure. I'm excited that Viola Davis is on board. Very cool news. ********************SPOILERS*************************** I don't believe she'll be playing Keller's wife though. The part of Grace is described in the script as "a fragile looking beauty with a whisper thin voice". This leaves me to believe that the only other possible female role that Davis will portray is the neighbour across the street "Nancy Birch". She's described as "tough, happy, no nonsense". She has a fair size role in it as her and her husband are great friends with Keller and his wife and it's also their daughter that's missing too!

Please, can you do me a favor? I haven't and won't read the script, could you at least warn before you comment some spoilers, please? Or better, open a new spoiler thread? I want to get surprised when I see the movie, and unfortunately now I already know more about the characters and storyline than I'd like to know.

Sorry about that Luzie! I have gone back into my last post and put in *Spoilers*! I actually hadn't mentioned anything regarding the storyline that hasn't already been mentioned prior on this thread or in the media for that matter (other than the character names), but you are right in that a new thread should begin. Since we are drawing close to the filming of Prisoners now, I have started a SPOILERS thread for the film. This will make it easier for those of us who have read the screenplay and want to discuss it in any way.
I apologize again Luzie if I've ruined anything regarding this film for you. Thanks for the idea of starting a new thread!

Thanx a lot for opening that new thread, Nevaeh. I'll avoid it till I've seen the movie. LOL And don't worry, there is no need for you to apologize.

They've cast the role of Keller's wife -- www.deadline.com/2012/11/maria-bello-prisoners-movie-casting-hugh-jackman-jake-gyllenhaal/
>>>EXCLUSIVE: Mario Bello has signed on to the kidnapping thriller Prisoners. The Touch actress will play Grace, the wife of Hugh Jackman’s Keller character in the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano and Viola Davis are also in the Denis Villeneuve-directed film. Prisoners follows a small town carpenter, Jackman’s Keller, who tries to find his kidnapped daughter and her best friend himself after the police can’t. Gyllenhaal is the detective assigned to the case – a cop who doesn’t like civilians getting involved in police work. Alcon Entertainment is producing Prisoners. Production on the movie is scheduled to start early next year and Warner Bros is planning a September 20, 2013 release. Bello is currently working on Paul Haggis’ The Third Person and recently wrapped up Grown-Ups 2 with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and gang for Sony. Bello is repped by CAA and John Carrabino Management.<<<Things are moving now at a fast clip. Jo

I love Maria Bello as the wife. I think she's an interesting actress (she's had some hit and miss roles, admittedly) but it'll be good to see her with Hugh. This cast is really aiming for a Golden Globe Best Cast nominee, isn't it?

Jo Great to see how quickly things are progressing. I wonder if either Philly or Atlanta has a sound stage where they'll shoot interiors. I'm guessing Derby for the wintery New England look and Philly for the more industrial look--the abandoned apt bldg maybe. Hopefully they have time off for Les Miserables promos, openings and awards events written into Hugh's contract. ;D Sue
