comicbook.com/blog/2013/05/24/bryan-singer-banned-comic-books-from-x-men-movie-set/Just an interesting thought -- I wonder what the working relationship is now for Hugh and Bryan Singer? The first times they worked together, Hugh was a newcomer ( esp for XMEN) and had not achieved the Hollywood acclaim and respect he has now. Bryan seems to be a dominating kind of director...but Hugh has also become a FOX key figure for the XMEN series ( even attaining producer's credit for the last few movies). Can Bryan still ban comic books from the set? LOL! Jo

Interesting that SEED PRODUCTIONS ( probably the corporate shell) is still listed as a Production Company for the two new XMEN movies -- www.imdb.com/company/co0018020/?ref_=ttco_co_11*The Wolverine *XMEN:Days of Future Past For Days of Future Past, it is listed as UNCREDITED. I wonder if that was part of the deal when Hugh signed up for Days of Future Past ( was that a way by which his compensation was worked out?)? Being producer for The Wolverine is understandable, though. Jo

Ah, Hugh's Entertainment Weekly cover issue was in my mailbox today, and he's nicely represented on several pages. Page 4 has a photo of him and EW editor Jess Cagle doing their SiriusXM interview, Page 8 features a mini-version of the cover photo, and there's a cute caricature of Hugh alongside others on the "Summer Must List" on Page 41. (He's the hairy one between Jessica Walter and Seth Rogen, LOL.) The six-page spread on THE WOLVERINE, "And Now for His Sixth Act...," begins on Page 42. Good article, though the slant does seem to be that this is Wolvie's chance to redeem himself after the franchise was "bruised" by XMO:W.
I liked the quote from model-turned-neophyte actress Tao Okamoto (Mariko) who initially didn't want to go to the audition, and then learned her character would be Hugh's love interest: "Oh, maybe I can go." Duh!!!
Just noticed: there's also a pull-out on the "25 Greatest Movie Superheroes," which cites Wolverine twice: once as a member of number 8, the X-Men; and once as a solo, number 16. The illustration for the number 16 spot is the EW cover preceding the release of XMO:W.

Thanks for the EW scoops, Ellen.
Some are disdainful of how fashion models were chosen for this movie - both Rila and Tao are high fashion models ( I have actually seen Rila in a Vogue photo shoot).
But high fashion photography ( especially in magazines like Vogue where famous photographers do the photoshoots - calibre of Irving Penn, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, etc) involves some amount of acting -- mood and emotions have to show correctly and impressively on their faces and body language even if it is the clothes and accessories that are being showcased. I guess that was why Eddie Redmayne was a successful male model for Burberry - he has an expressive face, even if he does not have the conventional good looks of a male model. Another factor in the choice of Rila and Tao could be their proficiency in English ( as they have worked in the English-speaking world) - it might have been difficult to cast other Japanese actresses who have only been in Japanese films.
Although James Mangold was very pleased with these Rila and Tao, shown on his tweets about them.

It looks like this is a Limited Edition cover page for an EmpireOnline edition -- It is a great image of Wolverine with a Japanese weapon. Hope it also appears on the regular issue. Jo

Two interesting responses from Hugh, which I think encapsulates the movie version and the approach to making it --

Here's Collider's account of THE WOLVERINE AND THE FORTY THINGS (about it ) -- collider.com/the-wolverine-set-visitHmmm... I thought he must have wandered into the wrong set - more like Pinewood than Fox Sydney Jo

Another interview -- from a producer's viewpoint! Very articulately expressed! The perspective is different( in some cases more widereaching and far-reaching) and his views really add more insights to what the actor and the director have already shared about the film. screenrant.com/the-wolverine-movie-interview-sequels/all/1/

Jo, thanks for posting all those incisive interviews. Some prognosticator on "Entertainment Tonight" the other evening predicted that THE WOLVERINE should do "monster business" at the box office. The movie sounds worthy of that. (I still can't fathom the popularity of what I consider crap like FAST AND FURIOUS 6.)
Hopes high for Wolvie!
