With Hugh Jackman up in Montreal shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past, reshoots for The Wolverine have also been taking place. If the following is to be believed, it sounds as if they've shot an after-credits scene with a surprise cameo setting up the "inbetweequel".

JoBlo reveals that additional scenes for The Wolverine were being filmed in Montreal on Sunday and it appears as if Professor X will be making a cameo appearance in the X-Men: The Last Stand sequel. Their sources tell them that it took place at an airport and sounds, "like it appears at the end of the movie, possibly when Wolverine returns from Japan." Considering the fact that Xavier dies in the Brett Ratner helmed movie, how exactly Patrick Stewart appears in both this and X-Men: Days of Future Past is unclear, although a popular guess is that he will simply use his psychic powers to make the comatose body he inhabited appear to others as his former self. Regardless, here's their description of the scene that was filmed. What do you think?

An extremely reliable source in Montreal has contacted JoBlo.com about a scene that was re-shot for THE WOLVERINE on Sunday and has given us some details on the new scene.
Before I get into spoiler territory, here's a bit of other information regarding the new scene: it takes place in an airport and all cell phones were (obviously) banned on set. The re-shoot was for only one scene and it shouldn't effect the release date for THE WOLVERINE.
This is where things get interesting. This news might not come as a huge surprise but I'd still consider it a spoiler so scroll past the image of Logan if you want to know who appears in the new scene.

So according to our source, the airport scene involves Wolverine....and Professor X. The new scene has the two of them walking into the airport and then going into a freeze frame. The source goes on to say that while things could always change, this is what he/she witnessed and was told on the set of the re-shoot.
What's interesting (and credit goes to fellow editor Alex Maidy for pointing this out) is that THE WOLVERINE is suppose to be set after X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and Professor X died in that film. Granted there was that whole transferring his conscious to a comatose patient thing but it sounds like the "real" Professor X was used for the re-shoot. I doubt it'll be explained why Professor X is alive in THE WOLVERINE but with Logan appearing in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST could the new scene be a tease for that film, similar to Nick Fury showing up at the end of the first IRON MAN? The scene does sound like it appears at the end of the movie, possibly when Wolverine returns from Japan.

Any other year THE WOLVERINE would be in most people's lists of top five movies to see this summer but there are a ton of options this summer. Plus after seeing the new previews for films like MAN OF STEEL, PACIFIC RIM and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, THE WOLVERINE just doesn't seem as epic as some of the other big films this summer. That isn't necessarily a bad thing since THE WOLVERINE looks a little bit more personal and not so much about saving the world, but I do think excitement for the movie has dropped quite a bit recently. I really believe that THE WOLVERINE will be an excellent return for Hugh Jackman's character and that flying under the radar a bit might actually help the film in the long run, but I hope that the movie doesn't get lost in the shuffle of other high profile releases this summer.

Let's hope Fox will try to match the aggressive marketing that is being used for many of the top blockbusters! The Wolverine seems like a serious and smart story...unlike the others with very typical comic book/superhero action fare! Someone noted on another site that of all the superhero fares, it is only The XMEN series and the Nolan Batman series which attempt to have more depth to its storylines.

Reshoot info sounds interesting. If they are shooting something with Professor X does that mean they will definitely have another X-Men movie?? Maybe Hugh isn't done with Wolverine yet after all. As for the demise of Xavier, the scene at the end of Last Stand made one think that he was indeed alive and in the comics the characters certainly get resurrected with great ease, so anything is possible.

When I was looking at the new pix posted on the DoFP thread I kept thinking that his hair looked more like The Wolverine so the reshoot may explain the look there.

When official stills and posters for James Mangold's The Wolverine first started to leak out, a strange pattern started developing: all of them featured Hugh Jackman without his shirt on. The images made it appear that the movie would feature Logan developing an allergy to shirts. Since then the Australian star has managed to keep his top on in new pictures, but that streak ends today with the latest Tweet from the director.

Mangold sent out the image with the message, "Hiro Sanada and HJ rehearse clash of claws and blades. Hiro is a truly great actor, martial artist and friend." Sanada plays Shingen Yashida, a samurai also known as Lord Shingen, in the movie.

Analyzing the picture, it's cool that you can see a bit of the film crew off on the left side, and that Wolverine's claws look that cool as just a practical effect. It's worth pointing out that the strange nail-bed featured in the trailer is in the background of the shot, suggestion that the set will be not only used more than once, but the setting of some violence.

Based on a script originally written by Christopher McQuarrie and given rewrites by Mark Bomback, and Mangold, The Wolverine is set after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand and follows the titular hero to Japan where he is given the chance of a lifetime: to be rid of his immortality. The film will be headed to theaters on July 26, and for a refresher you can watch the trailer again below.

I wonder if his interest in IM3 had anything to do with gauging audience reactions to the superhero movie and see how it can work as successfully for The Wolverine?

I went to see IM3 Mon. #1 son was taking me grocery shopping and he wanted to see it so I was a captive audience as we went to the early matinee on the way to the store It was good, not great-I'm sure young viewers are making it a big money grabber. The good new was that they played The Wolverine trailer so I enjoyed that also the Man of Steel trailer which I'm also looking forward to. I also liked the kick butt version of Pepper/Gwyneth.

I do not remember Wolverine with blood in any of his movies, except for XMEN 2 when he got out of the tank after the adamantium conversion wolverine

How are you in dealing with a foreign culture as the backbone of a movie you are excited to see?

I hear that according to the first draft of the script of The Wolverine, as written by Chris McQuarrie, (presumably adapted, revised, and enhanced initially by Darren Aronofsky and much later on by James Mangold), this movie is in a big sense a tribute to the centuries-old Japanese warrior culture and revered traditions. It is supposed to serve as a backdrop to the Wolverine tale in modern-day Japan, while on a continuing quest to find more of himself. Action scenes are supposed to be very impressive and quite different from the typical action hero fare this summer ( the trailer already reveals something of that excitement). Will Wolverine speak a smattering of Japanese - LOL - maybe the words "sushi" and "tempura" smiley-happy082

I've read the same assessment ( but not as starkly expressed) on some film sites ... and on message boards, even more discussed that The Wolverine is not getting too much vibe as a top blockbuster in the super slate of action movies this summer --

Arguably the underdog comic book movie of the summer next to RED 2, James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE has debuted two new character posters for the film, featuring Yukio and Viper, as rendered in the graphite/watercolor fashion we've seen from the marketing department thus far. It's a pretty cool design choice to do the character posters this way, however I would like to see what the final poster holds in store.

In addition to these new posters comes the news that a new trailer will premiere tomorrow morning at 6 AM (PST), which will likely be the final "narrative" trailer for the film. So far, I'm impressed but not blown away by what I've seen. It's a foregone conclusion that I'll be seeing the film, which is likely the same for most fans, but I'm really hoping that this one turns it all around for ol' Logan. Like Robert Downey Jr. as IRON MAN, however, Hugh Jackman is more than enough to get my ass in the theater. It'd be nice if the movie did his presence justice, though.


*Are people tired of Wolverine?
*Is Days of Future Past, with another Wolverine appearance, taking away the attention or causing more people to complain about too much Logan?
*Did the Origins movie create too much negativity?
*Are the fanboys wanting more of the Avengers type of movies and less of the serious themes in an action/fantasy fare?
*Is the marketing for the movie too tame and scattered so far?

Hopefully, the new trailer can provide the new excitement! Hopefully, Fox is going to invest heavily in the marketing of the movie ( as it would also have fringe effects for Days of Future Past) and keep the interest in the franchise heavily going. We know there have been some changes in the upper echelons of Fox and News Corp --Jim Gianopulos is now sole Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment after the departure of Tom Rothman and reports directly to Murdoch's in-command guy, Drew Carey ( whom we hope has more flair about movies as a business and is not just too focused on immediate profitability).

Can the Japanese market help rev interest in the movie on a worldwide basis - we know what it did for Les Miserables ( $ 62 million, almost beating the UK's $ 63 million). The movie is heavily based on Logan's sojourn in Japan ( with its centuries-old warrior culture and revered institutions). And if I recall my nephews's childhood interests -- fanboy enthusiasm for action figures and animated movies of superheroes started there!

It looks like Hugh's work towards promoting this movie is going to be cut out for him. Because he is the only well-known star, he will have to bear the entire brunt of the promotion ( except maybe in Japan). Hope Bryan Singer is going to work around his schedule in Days of Future Past ( which is supposed to film until August).

I love the trailer! I was happy that the mystery of whether Famke actually filmed something got solved. Lots of new little nuggets to digest in this one...I did a lot of frame by frame! That one scene with the wires was shown better in this one. The first time I saw that-don't remember if it was the domestic or international version-I thought it was just a shot before CGI had been done. It now appears to be Wolvie utilizing the power lines to give himself better odds against a large group of ninjas...very cool! Viper looks like she is going to be quite vile/evil!

(CNN) -- When we think of the perfect summer blockbuster, we think of action -- and July's "The Wolverine" will have more than enough, star Hugh Jackman says.

The 44-year-old is back for another round as the ferocious mutant Logan/Wolverine, but James Mangold's take is somewhat darker than its predecessors.

As the trailers have shown, the typically sly Logan appears to be in a pretty serious funk as he's haunted by thoughts of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). When a man whose life he once saved summons him to Japan, the ageless mutant is presented with an offer of mortality as a so-called expression of gratitude.

"He's sort of interested in it, because if your life is not great and there is a lot of regret and pain, would it be great to live on and on?" Jackman said of his character's dilemma. And yet, as Wolverine hints in the trailer, the time hasn't come where he has nothing left to live for.

Fans are anticipating seeing the iconic "X-Men" character put up an intense fight against his foes -- part of which happens atop a bullet train, as previews have shown.

"The only bad thing about filming a scene on the bullet train is that the wind machines are so powerful that when you watch it back on the monitor, you're like, 'man, I got to get a facelift because there's just skin flying everywhere,' " Jackman joked. "When I was lying on that train, I would just get pushed back -- and a couple of times, I just fell off of the train."

But, as a guy who loves the "popcorn element" of summer movies, he knows those sorts of action sequences are what audiences are hoping for.

"Yes, ('The Wolverine') is a character piece, and I would say it may be a little darker in tone than the others, and it certainly feels a little different, (but) it's just as much fun," Jackman said. "The action is probably in this is more inventive than we've ever had before."

CNN's Nischelle Turner spoke with Jackman about how he bulked up once again, his character's vulnerable side and why Wolverine makes a pretty solid wingman for a teen.

CNN: Looking at you, the only thing I can say is, "Wolverine is back!"

Hugh Jackman: He's back, and I couldn't be happier. I never in a million years would've thought (that) I'd still be playing this character (12 years later). It kind of really is shocking to me, but at the same time, it's such an instant gratitude, because I love this character.

CNN: So you know him now, really know him?

Jackman: I hope so. I feel like I do. I certainly feel proprietorial over him, and, you know, I have now read a lot of (the) comic books. Being someone who had never read the comic books, when I first heard about the audition, I was like, 'They want me to play Brian Maddox?' who is the lead of this Aussie rock band called the Uncanny X-Men. ... So I knew nothing. It's been a great ride.

CNN: This picks up after "X-Men 3," so we do know that Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) has met her demise -- but I've seen the trailers. She's there!

Jackman: I don't want to give away too much. She is there in the way that loved ones are always there ... in a very real way, she's there.

CNN: Is it safe to say that Wolverine, especially in this movie, is a little bit of a sensitive superhero?

Jackman: He's certainly more vulnerable.

CNN: He's a broken man, a bit.

Jackman: Oh, yeah. I mean, Wolverine is the toughest superhero. I may be biased, but I think he's the toughest. He doesn't necessarily have the strongest powers on paper, but ... he's the one guy who you don't want to be on his bad side. In this movie, however, you kind of see the toll of that; we start with him questioning everything. His life has been dominated by pain, by regret, mistakes ...

CNN: He loses the love of his life.

Jackman: (He) loses the love of his life, (and) we've seen that impact. He's one of those people where whenever he gets close to someone, bad things tend to happen. So in a way, not only for himself but for the world, he decides to just completely go off the reservation and sort of deny who he is and be like a recluse.

CNN: But there is something that's bringing him back

Jackman: There is something bringing him back. ... He just can't help himself, you know? I think the thing I love about him is, you know, he's reluctant, he doesn't want to get involved, he's not an idealist, but at the end of the day when there is an injustice, he can't help but rise to the occasion.

CNN: He's such a great character. (Playing him) had to raise the cool factor by 20 million with your kids.

Jackman: It does, yeah. Except now my son's turning 13, and he's like, "you're really nothing like Wolverine, are you?"

CNN: Does he use that to attract girls?

Jackman: This is very weird, but on some level, I'm kind of a wingman for my son, who's turning 13. This sounds very politically incorrect, but it's weird because most of the time, he doesn't want to talk about it with me. He doesn't talk about it much; he just wants me to be Dad. But I spotted him at the beach a couple years back, and he was talking to some girl who must have been 14 or 15. I was like, "Hmm ... like father, like son." And all of a sudden, he's pointing at me, and he walks over towards me. And he's sort of walking ahead of the girl, he's about 20 yards in front of the girl, and he's going, "Dad ... Wolverine. Just give an autograph, will you?" And I was like, "OK."

CNN: You sealed the deal for your son!

Jackman: For my then-11-year-old son! I know! If you see me in bars in about 10 years time, stop me!

CNN: Does the process of bulking up ever get tedious? I mean, there's muscles everywhere.

Jackman: I'll be honest with you, I kind of love it; I love the challenge of it. My personality is, 'I have to be in better shape than the last time." ... I feel really blessed to have the role, and I want to do it better every time, and so for me, the physicality of Wolverine is everything. I've realized it's preparation, it's time. Like in some of the old movies, you could see I didn't have time to prep. And I'm 44 now, so I need the time.

CNN: How much time did you spend getting ready?

Jackman: Three hours a day. I had a mentor, Dwayne Johnson, the Rock. We're mates, and I said, 'Mate, I need to know what you do." And he said, "Tell me you've got six months? ... You need six months to do this." He told me the diet -- 6,000 calories -- (and that) you have to train like no one else.

CNN: What does 6,000 calories a day consist of?

Jackman: It's six meals, with each meal having some kind of protein -- chicken, steak, fish, eggs -- a lot of it. Brown rice. If you're lucky enough, as you're bulking, you get brown rice or sweet potato. And then in the last month, I cut all the carbs out, and then it's a lot of steamed veggies. It's pretty plain, there's no salt, very little seasoning. And that's the big that gets hard.

This is what I learned: When I started, I used to think, "You want to be bigger? You want to be in better shape? Train harder, train harder, train harder!" It's not not (that), it's the food. Seventy percent of the way you look is your diet, 30% is your training. So if there's anything you've got to concentrate on, it's the food.

CNN: When you're done, what's the first thing you go for?

Jackman: Lasagna, ice cream, desserts, pizza ... All that stuff.

CNN: That's probably one of the happiest days of your life.

Jackman: So good. I love it so much. I eat pretty much everything.

"The Wolverine" opens in the U.S. on July 26.

For the cover story of our annual Summer Must List issue, EW visited the actor last year on the Sydney set of The Wolverine (in theaters July 26), where Jackman jumped and leapt and charmed his way through a series of seemingly back-breaking stunts that he made look as easy as pie. That’s entertainment — and who embodies the power and pop of summer in the cinema better than Jackman?

This is the epically buff, 44-year-old Australian’s sixth time at bat as Wolverine, and as he tells EW, he wants to make sure fans (and newcomers) walk away from the newest installment better acquainted with the elusive anti-hero than they might have after 2009’s critical dud X-Men Origins: Wolverine. “Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men – just with different characters,” he says. “I left unsure if we’d achieve our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character. This movie will really get to his core.”

Jackman reunited with director James Mangold (who worked with him on 2001’s Kate & Leopold) on a decidedly darker, more artistic approach to the character – this time, we see Logan headed to Japan, where he faces down two villains new to the franchise (The Silver Samurai and Viper), sneaky samurais (yes!), the Japanese mob and a gang of ninjas – on motorbikes!
