I hope a second unit is doing scenery photography in Japan, especially now - the autumn season - maybe the story of Logan in Japan spans a much longer period ( the filming at the Japanese temple seems to have reflected the summer season)?
I am hoping that the special film treat in this XMEN/Wolverine movie is the scenic beauty of Japan.

Well, it looks like the scene with the ninja on the previous page has snow and icicles, so if they're filming that and they did a more summery scene at the temple, it may be a story that spans a year or more. It's an interesting thought and it would be new to the character, considering we've only seen him a few days in one movie and a few days in another. If months pass in this movie, we'll (hopefully) see a character development that could add some new layers to Wolverine.

Maybe what James Mangold is saying in this brief interview brings out another element in the character of Wolverine -- that of isolation. The faraway culture and the landscape of Japan do help in that sense of being alone, by himself in his quests. www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/....es-mangold.html Also, check out a brief clip from Hugh, discussing The Wolverine. Thanks for the link, the other one didn't work. I hadn't seen that particular clip before. I hope he's right about hitting a "hole in one". Seems to me he has a chance to hit 3 in a row...wonder what that would be called? ;D Sue

I think it also will be good in terms of the romance with Mariko. Having more time to develop that will be wonderful to see. I also like the stuff in that Jim Mangold article that Jo posted about delving more into the immortality aspects of the character. This all sounds very promising and could end up being the definitive Wolverine movie that Hugh has been hoping for. Sue

I like that Clint Eastwood-ish, loner aspect. And Logan does age, albeit slowly, so his looking slightly more mature would not negatively impact the credibility of the story if it indeed does take place post-Alcatraz. I'm feeling more positive about this standalone.

EDIT : Found a more manageable-sized photo!
Wonderful imagery for the huge one, though ;D

Mine are so bad that I still haven't seen it but I'm glad to know it says that. Very cool! I do wonder how they're doing the timeline though. He seems to be in Army pants or am I not seeing that right? Could that be around the time of the POW stuff? Sue

There was some news that Bryan Singer might be returning to direct XMEN:THE DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, vice Matthew Vaughn who might have left the project. In the discusssions on IMDB -- I have also vaguely read about it. Could Hugh be doing some sort of role here ( Note to myself : I need to get a copy of this series )?? I understand the movie is supposed to be released in summer 2014...and there was some info that filming would start in January 2013 ( but that was posted in August 2012) and with the change in directors, there is the possibility that there would be some delay, but still enough to catch the 2014 release date? I have also read that Patrick Stewart has discussed the possibility when he was recently asked... Early days... But if this is going to happen...and Hugh could fit it in - -probably not a very long involvement -- maybe that could happen after he completes PRISONERS, which is expected to be only a short shoot. Hmmm... Jo

Then that would be sandwiched in between PRISONERS and HOUDINI rehearsals? Sounds like a pretty tight schedule.

I hope, hope, hope that Bryan Singer comes back. I feel like the franchise took a bit of a nosedive without him. And I've never read the Days of Future Past series but I'm a little familiar with it and it seems like it could be an interesting way to correct the problems from X3. Since the plot is very Kitty Pryde centered, does anyone know if Ellen Page is signing back up to play her or if they'll pick another (fourth!) actress to play her?

You mentioned Ellen Page --
There's something I've observed. It looks like the series attracts actresses who have already won the Oscar ( Anna Paquin/Rogue), are going to win the Oscar ( didn't Halle Berry/Storm win it for Monster Ball while she was filming one of the series) or get nominated later on (Ellen Page/Kitty for Juno...and there is very strong buzz that Jennifer Lawrence/young Mystique may not just be nominated for Silver Linings but could actually win for Best Actress)...hmmm

Funny enough, the first actress to play Kitty Pryde is the daughter of Juli-Ann Kay, my drama coach I used to take lessons with back in 2004. Juli-Ann is a Casting Director who happened to be casting some of the roles in Xmen back when they were filming in Toronto. Hmmm, I wonder how her daughter got the part?

I remember her -- the first time Wolverine entered Prof Xavier's room, Kitty simply flashed by as she exited through the wall ;D
