Wolverine is coming back to the big screen -- and we've got your first shot of Hugh Jackman in "costume."

The buff actor was spotted on set of "The Wolverine" yesterday in Sydney, Australia ... where he was showing off his incredibly ripped physique as he ran around shirtless.

The bulked-up Aussie star showed off his well-sculpted pecs as cameras rolled in the makeshift Japanese prison camp that has sprung up on the shores of Botany Bay in NSW.

It looks like the speculations that Wolverine gets involved in another episode where he battles with a bear may be true???

Hmm...and maybe that was why his head was all covered up when he alighted from the car. He did seem to be looking a little dishevelled and straggly hair framing his face ( see photo in previous post) ...

The other day I was informed by my source that Hugh Jackman's character Wolverine/Logan will be headed into town to buy camping gear. As you can see in the set photos below an old hardware shop in Picton has been converted into a hiking/camping shop. Also, a bar will be featured in the movie, that is why you will see a mural of a moose promoting "Ed's Bar."

Why is this important? What does it mean? Well a savvy CBM user pointed out that this could be scenes emulating the beginning of Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga" in "Wolverine #1." In that version of the tale Wolverine/Logan is seen in the Canadian Rockies pursuing a man-eating grizzly bear. During the eventual confrontation Wolverine notices that the bear has an arrow lodged in it's back. A closer examination reveals that the tip of the arrow had traces of poison and is the cause of the bear's erratic behavior.

Wolverine then seeks out the hunter responsible by picking up his scent at the bear's cave. That leads him to a local pub, "Josie's Bar 'N' Grill," where Wolverine identifies the hunter and a one-sided fight incurs.

EDIT: I checked my one and only graphic novel ( aka comic book series) on Wolverine and in the Japanese saga, this is the first episode indeed!

Fanboys will be thrilled that they are hewing close to the comic book stories

The Wolverine descends on Picton

HOLLYWOOD descended on Picton yesterday as Menangle Street transformed into a movie set for the filming of The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman.
Hundreds of people lined the street in hope of seeing Jackman.

Two semi trailer trucks loaded with tree logs, flaked with fake-snow became props in The Wolverine scene.

The snow-covered set, with snowmobiles and shovels, resembled a town in northern Canada’s Yukon region.

American pick-up trucks, a Canadian police car and a campervan were all part of the set.

Jackman emerged shortly after 11am to the sound of Ted Nugent’s epic Cat Scratch Fever.

The first scene filmed featured Jackman walking through the town’s old hardware doors as a group of hunters loaded their pick-up truck with bags and rifles, drinking beer, revving each other up.

The scene was shot half a dozen times and the hype grew as people begun climbing on roof tops to catch a glimpse of him.

But it was Sepesa Tarogi of Picton who had the best seat in the house.

Mr Tarogi lives above the old bank and had a 360 degree view of the set on the corner of Argyle and Menangle Street.

‘‘I was excited,’’ he said.

‘‘I’ve seen everything from this house.

‘‘It’s a beautiful place to shoot a movie, word has gotten around about Picton.’’

Wilton’s Christine Frame stood at the edge of the set in front a paparazzi photographer perched on an A-frame ladder in an attempt to see Jackman.

‘‘The last exciting thing that happened in Picton was the Sydney Olympic Games when the torch came through,’’ she said.

Christine Brown of Picton said: ‘‘I just want to catch a glimpse of him (Jackman) then go home ... I want something to make my daughter envious.’’

This past year has certainly been filled with quite a few transformations for him. It was only a number of months ago, he was bald!

On Friday 3 August 2012, we had the chance to visit the set of The Wolverine while filming in the beautiful town of Picton in Country NSW, almost two hours from Sydney.

At the location, we could see how part of a street was fully transformed into a Canadian location, including snow, Canadian police cars and a hardware store named Faro, where most of the action happened, with director James Mangold behind the camera and Hugh Jackman walking around the place with a long hair and beard.

Some of the scenes we saw included a truck anda hardware store during daylight. After a break we saw the crew preparing some night shots, with the action happening in tiny alley next to the same hardware store, where we could hear Hugh screaming, while huge spotlight was placed with a crane illuminating the alley in the night and while some fake rain was introduced in the shot.

Hugh Jackman left the set late in full costume, so he was not able to stop for the almost 400 local fans waiting for him around. Still, he pulled his window down in order to shake hands and thank all the locals for let him to film there. Moreover, we were told that early in the day, during one of the breaks, Mr. Jackman was as nice as usual taking some minutes to talk and greet fans, signing some autographs and explaining that he was not allowed to pose for photos with fans while in costume.

In addition we were told by an insider, that the last scene Hugh Jackman did, despite the cold temperatures at the location, was a very dramatic shot with cold rain in a small alley (That explains the Wolverine’s iconic scream full of anger we heard at one point) and that scene might be at the beginning of the film, before Wolverine traveling to Japan to learn the Samurai’s way.

The Wolverine will continue filming in some secret locations around Sydney the next weeks and will also include 3 weeks of shooting in Japan. Here enjoy some exclusive photos from the set below.

I have fond memories of the great beaches from my 2006 trip. We saw whales in Sydney Harbour - well, more like a "hump" and then the geyser "blow" - no breaching or anything, but amazing nonetheless.
