Hi Lenka,
I was deeply impressed with the collection of political essays he wrote ( which I have mentioned earlier in this thread). Some political essays or literature can go over my head, but Vaclav Havel's writing engages one in a compelling way. After reading it, I gave it to someone whose political beliefs translated into more meaningful actions compared to me ( I only vote during elections).

He also warned Barack Obama from a political backlash - he was so popular that critic had to come. Sadly, there are people who critizise Havel these days for no apparent reason. He was against a system of political parties and he also openly admitted he didn´t feel too well in the modern world after 2000. I think he truly believed in his motto "Truth and love will win over lies and hatred" but unfortunately, some people think he was just naive. I am a bit worried about the growing rasistic moods in Europe so it is maybe a good thing he isn´t around to see it. He believed in united Europe so let´s hope at least that will prevail for some time (ideally forever but I am not that naive)

Sharing healthy diet tips once again -- I saw a tweet by someone who saw Hugh and Deb at Heathrow. It looks they may have been flying to Hongkong? It looks like the above photo waa taken while Hugh was having breakfast at The Peninsula in Hong Kong -- Afternoon tea at the Lobby of the Peninsula is a celebration of the English high tea tradition. I wonder if Hugh and Deb will observe it at such an elegant but public ( for hotel guests) place? Jo

Maybe the visit to the farm had taken place before he went to HongKong --
It looks like they stayed on the Kowloon side ?

Now he is in Paris for the weekend -- He was on the Left Bank, on Boulevard St. Germain - I wonder if he went to the Quartier Latin where Marius, Enjolras and the rest of the students supposedly congregated? Somewhere there would be the fictional Café Musain where they sang The Red and the Black and where the students finally fell in the barricade. Did he take the tour of the sewers ( there is one, or used to be one in Paris)? Or wander to the streets where the supposed resindences of Jean Valjean were ( Rue Plumet? Rue de l'Armee?)...You can't be in Paris and not think Les Mis But it looks like he is simply showing off the yummy French fare that he was enjoying this weekend Btw, RALPH's is part of the Ralph Lauren complex/store in Paris. The Museum is close to Rue Saint Denis, another street in the story of Les Miserables. Re chocolate in Paris -- the most ubiquitous reminder of French fascination with chocolate is Pain Au Chocolat, as equally popular as a croissant for breakfast Jo

That continental breakfast -- C'est delicieux! If ever Hugh published a personal travelogue, he would already have gorgeous images of food he encountered along the way

I really hate the look he has now. His sudden obsession with tweeting pix makes me think he's trying to get people accustomed to the look. It's not working for me though! Sue

He is filming PAN ...There have been reports/tweets of Hugh sightings at the filming location ( which is actually very near London) or towns where the studios are located ( the Warner Bros Leavesden Studios). He should probably complete filming by early September...then off to NYC for the start of rehearsals for The River. Someone has posted on IMDB that it seems Joe Wright may have imposed a ban on talking about the movie, while it is being filmed... let alone show something in photos or clips. That was according to supermodel Cara Delevingne who has a small role as a mermaid. So, maybe that is why Hugh's tweets/instagrams are focused on his side trips during weekends Jo

Well, if anyone should be enshrouded by sunshine from the heavens, it's Hugh. Beautiful shot!

Interesting tweet -- I thought of the same thing, too. In the novel, Javert had gone to the area by the Seine between Pont Notre Dame and Pont-au-Change, near Place du Chatelet where there was an unusual kind of current. Could that bridge on Hugh's right side in the photo have been one of those bridges? Pont-au-ChangeIt's one of the least elaborate-looking bridges crossing the Seine -- some have grandiose designs and lighting. Jo

I've found the link to a larger image -- and this has made a lot of difference. The image is almost ethereal! Jo

Unfortunately, the responder is woefully missing the point! The Paris Plage is a wonder because the artificial beach has been constructed (it replaces the lower level of the riverbank, Rive Droite, as a motorway in the summer in the last 10 years) to give Parisiennes a taste of summer by the water ( not to bathe or swim in )but simply to enjoy that social and physical experience of how being in a place right beside a body of water flowing in one of the most historical and most chic city in the world has become a relaxing experience. And it is in the middle of the City of Lights, where nearby Notre Dame and the most famous museum in the world ( the Louvre) and other beautiful architectural and historical wonders are located. As one article says, the Paris Plages ( there are three of them) are where natives and tourists enjoy the experience together Jo
