There seems to be a continuing love for Wolverine -- even at the stagedoor of the Winter Garden, you can hear people greeting him as Wolverine. During the fundraising drive for BC/EFA, didn't Hugh use the Wolverine come-on to make people excited to contribute generously to the Broadway charity. It all started when someone handed him from the front row a pair of huge foam claws.

Btw, wasn't it mentioned that Shawn Levy ( who directed Real Steel and who was at the Opening Night of THE MUSIC MAN and whose daughter served as Hugh's PA for a short time for Music Man) is directing this project? Presumably it will have comedic tones ( given that Deadpool is involved) and that it will be a far cry from the tragic storyline of LOGAN.

I wonder - did Mangold talk to someone in authority ( maybe Kevin Feige himself) and learned that a proposal is being actively pursued with Hugh ??

Mangold had 2 major film projects with Disney, after Logan -- FordVFerrari and the upcoming last Indiana Jones movie. He can't possibly upset the studio's plans

To be honest -- it doesn't seem that Hugh has actually agreed to any proposal.

The possibility of an offer - maybe from Feige - could be there...and Ryan is simply trying to persuade him by letting him see how the public reacts.

Kevin used to be an Associate Producer working for Lauren Shuler Donner for the first XMen movie.

*He even drove Hugh to the airport ( or was it picking him up from the airport in Toronto)
*he approved the Wolverine hairstyle.
*he was supposed to have given Hugh access to his immense library of comic books, including the XMen series.

Hugh was a producer for XMen Origins :Wolverine, which introduced Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
For Deadpool's first solo movie, Hugh let himself be used as prop for the movie ( Deadpool's mask) to help his friend.

Weeks after Marvel Studios' presentation at the D23 Expo, Ryan Reynolds took the comic book movie news cycle into his own hands by revealing that Hugh Jackman would return to the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

In a video, Reynolds shared that he was struggling to come up with an idea for the long-awaited threequel.

And so, when Hugh Jackman walked by in the background and Reynolds just asked if he would like to return to the role, the Wolverine actor responded, saying, "Yeah, sure, Ryan."

The video went on to reveal that Deadpool 3, featuring the two former 20th Century Fox heroes, would premiere on September 6, 2024.

But even though Jackman's response was casual at best, the same can't be said for Marvel fans once they learned the news.



Marvel Fans Respond to Deadpool 3 Casting News

Following Ryan Reynolds' announcement that Deadpool 3 will also star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the fan consensus online has been one of both shock and excitement.

Twitter user @sidewinder had nothing but praise for this surprising premise:

Why Deadpool 3 News is Shocking Yet Makes Sense
While audiences knew Deadpool 3 was on the way, Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine - and in a Deadpool movie - is news that no one saw coming.

Even though fans have long hoped that Jackman would reprise the role in the MCU, it didn't seem likely given the actor has been playing Wolverine since 2000 and seemingly put that chapter of his career to rest with 2017's Logan.

Therefore, it's no wonder that the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.

However, even though Ryan Reynolds' reveal took audiences and the industry by surprise, the pairing does make sense.

After all, both characters were previously owned by Fox. And, in the past, Reynolds shared that his original idea for Deadpool 3 was Deadpool and Wolverine road trip.

In addition, both heroes have been waiting to make their MCU debut following Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox and both characters have films that are R-rated.

Now, whether Deadpool 3 will stay true to what Reynolds initially planned, and just how their story will fit into the MCU, remains to be seen.

In the meantime, fans have yet another reason to be excited for Phase 5 of the MCU; and given the fan response to a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up, anticipation for this upcoming threequel is likely here to stay.

Ryan Reynolds has some big news: His Deadpool is not the only X-Man set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wolverine is coming with him. And not just any Wolverine. The Wolverine. Hugh Jackman.

Fans were wondering how Reynolds would make a splash as he brought his R-rated mouth into the primarily PG-13 MCU for the first time with “Deadpool 3,” and the answer is now simple: with Adamantium claws.

In a social media video Tuesday, Reynolds made the announcement of Jackman’s return to the X-Men movie world — which was especially shocking considering the character had died in 2017’s “Logan.” Reynolds proclaims a case of extreme writers block while preparing for “Deadpool 3,” which is set to arrive in theaters Sept. 6, 2024. He realizes he’s now in the superhero movie big leagues at Marvel Studios, and maybe not quite ready for the moment, but he says he did have one idea. And that’s when Jackman walks by in the background.

“Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks.

“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman responds while walking up a flight of stairs and directly into the consciousness of geek fandom for the next two years.

Cue the Whitney Houston music. Yes, Reynolds always has a way of throwing in songs you’d never expect to hear in a superhero setting. Remember how important Wham!’s “Careless Whisper” was in the “Deadpool” movies? It’s surprising Reynolds didn’t get Kevin Costner to show up when the video ends with Houston’s classic rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” but if you listen hard enough, it almost sounds like “I will always love, Hugh,” which is Reynolds at maximum comedic power.

This is a homecoming of sorts. Reynolds made his debut as Wade Wilson (the man who eventually turns into Deadpool) in 2009 in Jackman’s first solo Wolverine outing, “X-Men: Origins Wolverine,” a movie just good enough to barely remember. He then spun off into his own “Deadpool” movie in 2016, creating a bloody and R-rated corner of superhero cinema, which was unheard of at the time. By the time “Deadpool 2” came along in 2018, Reynolds had separated himself from an X-Men movie franchise that was withering in the shadows of what Marvel Studios was accomplishing with the Avengers. Disney’s Marvel Studios had become the dominant creator of movies based on Marvel comics characters, and Reynolds’s “Deadpool” movies over at Fox were the only thing that could stand up to their might.

Fast forward to 2019 and Disney’s purchase of Fox (which owned the rights to X-Men movies before Marvel Studios was a thing), which created a gateway for Reynolds’s Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine to finally appear in a Marvel Studios production, under the oversight of its president Kevin Feige.

We, of course, should not be here. Jackman’s Wolverine died very dramatically and in R-rated fashion in James Mangold’s “Logan,” a movie meant to be a swan song for a beloved portrayal of one of the most popular comic book characters ever. Reynolds and Jackman alluded to this issue — but didn’t give away any secrets — in a tweet and a video posted Wednesday morning. It should be no surprise that Wham! was involved.


Let’s not forget that in 2018’s “Deadpool 2,” a post-credits scene featured Deadpool getting his hands on time travel technology. He goes back in time and kills the very lame, mouth-sewn-shut version of himself that appears at the end of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” — essentially saying sorry to fans for the horrible idea of closing the mouth of a guy whose main superpower is his sense of humor. And then he gives Wolverine a message that now seems like a much bigger hint than anyone previously realized.

“Look, eventually you’re going to hang up the claws,” Deadpool says in the scene. “And it’s going to make a lot of people very sad. But one day, your old pal Wade’s gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes.”

Is that the loophole that will bring Jackman to the MCU? Maybe. Maybe not. This is the multiverse era at Marvel Studios right now, where alternate universes and alternate versions of heroes is a thing. There are plenty of options to justify Jackman’s Wolverine now walking in the land of the Avengers.

Jackman signing off as Wolverine in 2017 after almost two decades on film felt like a geek Greek tragedy. The big bang of the last two decades of superhero dominance at movie theaters was when a little-known Jackman blew fans away with his performance in 2000’s “X-Men” despite being too tall and too handsome for the role. He didn’t play Wolverine. He was Wolverine. The hair. The grit. The growling. The claws. The only thing that was ever missing was his classic superhero suits (one brown, one yellow and blue), an accessory hopefully Marvel Studios can now add. It would be a crime not to. There wouldn’t be three “Ant-Man” movies without what Jackman accomplished in that first “X-Men” movie, let alone three “Deadpool” movies.

Which is why Jackman coming over to Marvel Studios feels so right. It was almost unfair that such a universally praised comic book inspired performance couldn’t breathe in the air of Marvel Studios because of executives’ decisions. There aren’t too many things from Fox’s X-Men movie era worth keeping alive at Marvel Studios, but if ever there was an exception, it’s Reynolds’s Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine.

And if Reynolds sitting on a toilet in his video reveal while reading “Wolverine” No. 21 is any indication, this Marvel team-up is in the right hands.

You could practically hear the cheers around the world on September 27 when Ryan Reynolds announced that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for Deadpool 3. It still feels like a dream, given that many fans have been hoping to see the duo join forces for a number of years. Now that it’s a reality, all that’s left to do is wait until the movie comes out in 2024. At the moment, though, we can look forward and explore why the news is so exciting.

Starting with the obvious, Jackman’s addition to the film is a huge win for fans. Deadpool 3 was already one of the most highly anticipated movies on Marvel’s slate, though it remained a mysterious project prior to the aforementioned announcement. Now, it has become perhaps the most buzzworthy installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aside from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. James Mangold’s Logan was a masterpiece and a beautiful farewell to the beloved character, but the send-off has left a sizable hole, both in our hearts and in the MCU’s potential introduction of the X-Men. Bringing Jackman into the fold is sure to delight Marvelites while building a strong foundation for future projects to expand on.

Jackman played Wolverine for a whopping 17 years, starting with X-Men in 2000 and culminating in 2017’s Logan. More so than any other superhero and their actor, he has become synonymous with the character. It was practically impossible to imagine someone else bringing him to life in an upcoming movie, as he set the bar incredibly high. With this in mind, it’s quite fitting that Jackson will reprise the role for Wolverine’s MCU debut; the concern for a newcomer to “do the character justice” goes out the window because Jackman is the quintessential Logan. Plus, if nothing else, seeing him popping his claws and being a badass one last time will be a wonderful trip down memory lane.

As thrilling as it is, the news of Jackman joining the film has overshadowed another major factor in the situation; Deadpool 3 will mark Wade Wilson’s MCU debut. Fans have been clamoring for it for years, as both Deadpool films were smash hits. Since the Disney/Fox merger, the subject was been surrounded by uncertainty, as many fans were curious, if not concerned, to see if the character would be warped into a family-friendly version that didn’t crack R-rated jokes and stab bad guys with swords. For now, that question is still on the table, to an extent. Writer Rhett Reese previously stated that the movie would not be “Disney-fied.” Time will tell exactly how true to the character he will be in the MCU environment, but more importantly, Deadpool 3 has the chance to instantly make the anti-hero one of the franchise’s most beloved characters.

Assuming the third film offers what fans enjoyed so much about its predecessors, Wade will instantly stand out among the rest of his peers. Plenty of MCU heroes crack jokes, but Reynolds’ Deadpool often delivers laugh-out-loud moments that stay with the viewer long after the credits roll. Plus, there’s plenty of heart within the hero, as his arc throughout the first two movies demonstrated. Wade is a man who has loved and lost, and while he uses humor and violence to cope, he’s still finding himself. It will be fascinating to see how the emotional core of the character continues to evolve in Deadpool 3 and beyond.

Last but certainly not least, the third film in the trilogy could go a long way in establishing mutants in the MCU. At the moment, references to the X-Men and mutantkind have been few and far between in the franchise. One fun Easter egg came when Ms. Marvel borrowed from the legendary X-Men: The Animated Series theme. Patrick Stewart’s reprisal of his iconic role as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was one major step forward. Otherwise, this corner of the Marvel Universe has largely been untapped in previous MCU films, so Deadpool 3 might be fans’ first opportunity to get a taste of what the X-Men will be in this new world or, rather, multiverse.

We’re all still buzzing about the announcement of Jackman’s involvement, but there’s a good reason fans have Deadpool 3 circled on their calendars so far in advance. Reynolds’ return as Wade has been a long time coming, and getting more Deadpool goodness is wonderful in the first place. Jackman coming back and playing Logan one more time will be a heavy dose of nostalgia., and it will also take the character in a new direction, given the different tone of the franchise. Finally, the simultaneous MCU debuts of Deadpool and Logan will continue to stack the lineup of heroes at the creators’ disposal while also potentially setting up the X-Men’s future moving forward.
