Shawn Levy is now the third different director to direct Ryan Reynolds dead pool film, following Tim Miller and David Leitch. Deadpool 3 It’s moving forward with a September 2024 release date, and Levy reacted to all the news with several tweets that you can see below.

There is already a lot of excitement for the recently announced Deadpool 3, which brings back Ryan Reynolds to reprise the title character. In a hilarious announcement video, Reynolds revealed Hugh Jackman will be joining him in the much-anticipated threequel for another round as Wolverine. We already know this will be absolutely hilarious with as much action and hilarious moments as the first two Deadpool movies. Free Guy director Shawn Levy is also set to Deadpool 3, the the filmmaker shared an already classic photo of himself with the two actors.

Here we have Levy alongside Jackman and Reynolds, all smiling big on a couch and visibly very excited to be working on the project. Levy's funny caption proves he definitely understands the tone Deadpool 3 is going for, so he’s the perfect person to spearhead the project. Check out the legendary Instagram post below.


Shawn Levy was announced to be directing Deadpool 3 in March. He has previously worked with Reynolds on movies like Free Guy and The Adam Project, so the Welcome to Wrexham star certainly has trusts him with passion projects. Levy will be the third director to chronicle the popular anti-hero, with the previous Deadpool movies being respectively directed by Tim Miller and David Leitch. This will also be the first Deadpool film to officially be a part of the MCU, so Levy certainly has some big shoes to fill.


Development on Deadpool 3 has been a long process, and recently the writers of the film admitted to difficulties bringing together Fox and Disney’s superhero worlds. The merger between the two companies allowed for the title character to enter the MCU, and there is a lot of lore to balance, especially with Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine. There was previously a lot of speculation if doing so would be possible, but as Reynolds recently explained, Logan taking place in 2029 allowed for Jackman to canonically be involved with Deadpool 3. Jackman previously announced his retirement from the role, but evidently he changed his mind.

Ryan and Shawn were at Opening Night of The Music Man on Feb 10, 2022.

Maybe they were already in deep discussions then. And the fact that Shawn's daughter acted as Hugh's PA during the early part of TBFO is probably also another clue that something was brewing.

Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Knew About Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Return for a Long Time

Marvel Studios broke the internet Tuesday by revealing the return of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in spectacular fashion. Jackman joined Ryan Reynolds in a video announcement shot by Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy, which was then shared on Reynolds' social media accounts Tuesday afternoon, lighting the internet ablaze shortly thereafter. While virtually the entire internet didn't know about Jackman's return until Tuesday, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld got a heads up.

Speaking with ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis, Liefeld says he was tipped off by an "industry friend" that Jackman had signed a deal to return to his Wolverine role long before the announcement, officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the events of Deadpool 3 in 2024.

"These performers, maybe they need some time away, but the point is—the day after the Disney meeting, I had an industry friend who has never been wrong and quite powerful in the entertainment business. He calls me and says, 'Dude, Hugh is signed on. Wolverine is back. They are doing it. Don't doubt me. I have it locked. The deal is done. They're doing it,'" Liefeld says. "I knew when they wanted to film and kind of all that production information and all that information seems to be right on target, but nobody knew when they were going to announce it."

Marvel Studios originally had a February 2024 date open, which was delayed to September earlier this month. At the time, many suspected the Reynolds-led threequel would fall on that date—and those folks were right.

I don't think it's that serious. It's just two actors seeing an opportunity to work together and make money. I don't think it harms the ending of Logan. This swapping of universe's feels pretty comic book.

Not to mention Ryan Reynolds had wanted to do this with deadpool 3 originally, and hugh Jackman said he'd love to return for thr mcu, which he still may not be the main line universe's wolverine. So how is Disney being evil for letting Ryan Reynolds and other do what they want

given us the Wolverine saga (especially in the Wolverine trilogy) w/ focus on the dark and difficult side of his life, ending in the tragic but triumphant LOGAN. 1/2

Hugh Jackman Talks about his X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Cameo as Wolverine. The actor tells the story of how his Wolverine cameo made it into the film.

Fox’s X-Men: First Class caught quite a few people off-guard when it opened this past May. The stories of the rushed production schedule and reshoots had many thinking that the prequel would be a mediocre popcorn flick at best. Instead, we got a smart, taut, and entertaining period film that turned out to be one of the best superhero movies of the year. Among the film's many strengths were the nods to the previous entries in the X-Men franchise, including quite possibly one of the greatest cameos of the past decade: Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The actor turns up for just a few seconds, and delivers just one line, but he gets the biggest laugh of the entire film.



Recently, Steve got the chance to sit down with the actor to talk about his upcoming pic Real Steel. We’ll have the full interview up soon, but Jackman told a great story about how his cameo in the X-Men flick came to be. The scene was filmed at the last minute, and Jackman came up with the final version of his line himself. Hit the jump for the full story.

Jackman revealed that director Matthew Vaughn and the studio were unsure of whether or not to include his Wolverine cameo in the film up until the very last minute:

“I think it was a big debate for them. They brought me out and I know all of those guys from all of the X-Men movies. They said, ‘This is what we are thinking.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, well tell me the idea’ And I was like, “Okay. Is anyone else in the movie?” and they said, ‘No.’ So I said, ‘I’m in.’ So that was that. It was a year between now and when I actually did it. I don’t know if you know the history of it – I was sort of outside of it – but [the production] went on longer [than they planned], they were here, they were going to—all the X-Men movies are the same, I’m used to it. There’s something chaotic about it all. We were going to shoot it in Savannah, and I was doing something else so I was like, ‘Well, if you need me, I’m available. Just give me a call.’ So then Savannah came and went and I never heard anything. I was like, ‘Well obviously they didn’t want that.’ But then I didn’t hear anything for 3 or 4 months. I finally said, ‘Do they want me to do this thing? Was I meant to call them? Was I meant to turn up some day? I don’t understand.’ They finished shooting and I was like, ‘Oh obviously they didn’t want it.’ Then they rang me up and said, ‘Look, we’re doing reshoots, we’re not sure if we want it or not. Are you around?’ So I said, ‘Yeah, I can do it.’ They said, ‘Okay.’ And I never heard anything. Even when I went down there I was generally not sure if that was going to be in the movie. I don’t think they knew. I think they just thought it could be a good moment and we should just try and work it out. So we went down there and did about 8 takes.”

When it came down to delivering the line, Jackman had an idea of his own that he wanted to try out for the last take:

“The line was ‘Fuck off’ and then I said, ‘Matthew, give me one more. I have a feeling.’ So the last one I said, ‘Go fuck yourself’ and Matthew said, ‘I think that’s gonna be the one.’”

From Jackman’s story I think it’s safe to assume that all those rumors of a hectic production schedule were true. But in the end, Vaughn turned out a fantastic movie with one hell of a cameo.

We all know that the actor who was first cast as Wolverine was Dougray Scott. But because of a filming accident in his Mission Impossible 2 project, DScott was unable to meet the filming dates. Hugh who replaced him got the part only a few weeks into filming.


That was why Patrick Stewart got first billing in the first movie.

However, by the second movie (XMen 2), it was already Hugh Jackman who was billed first, presumably due to the highly-unexpected popularity that he earned from the first movie.
