It'll probably be hotter than blazes there during the dog days of summer. I hope HJ's got lots of water bottles at the ready. (I have no doubt.) Ellen

Casting call for JUAREZ ( code name for WOLVERINE 3 ) --
With the call for Hispanic ethnicity ( not just for the above, but earlier for extras to play "federales"), it seems that the plot will have some scenes possibly in Mexico and/or to simulate a Mexican setting?

Jo If we lived closer to New Mexico, I'd get my son to audition. He has a tat and a couple piercings and his great-grandfather was Puerto Rican! Nancy

Someone on IMDB has raised the point that this film project could have the highest production budget ( $ 127 million) ever for an R-RATED movie!
Which raises the question -- how do R-rated movies perform at the box office?
*Deadpool has become the highest-grossing film in the XMen franchise. It had a budget of $ 58 MILLION
*American Sniper was also very successful at the box office. It also had a budget of $ 58.8 million.
It is not necessarily the budget that will define the success at the box office. It is how good the movie is perceived that will bring out movie audiences in droves. Deadpool had an average rating of 84% (with an audience LIKE factor of 91%) while American Sniper had a 72% average rating ( with an 85% audience LIKE factor) at Rotten Tomatoes. Deadpool scored $363 million at the domestic box office while worldwide grosses amounted to $ 781 million. American Sniper scored $ 350 million at the domestic box office while worldwide grosses amounted to $ 547 million. Presumably the wide disparity in worldwide grosses was due to the identification of Deadpool as part of the popular XMEN franchise.
It did take a long time before the screenplay for WOLVERINE 3 was good enough for Hugh and Mangold and Fox to decide to start filming the movie. Presumably, they have found the screenplay excellent enough to warrant such a fairly large production budget for a solo movie in a franchise.
We'll see.

I hope the high budget for this movie will not end up sabotaging its profit potential, thereby leaving a negative stain on HJ's swan song in his iconic role. I fear there's Wolvie fatigue, at least among the fanboys--although knowing this is the last original cast outing, which may or may or may not be partially drawn from the cherished Old Man Logan comic book, will hopefully bring even the jaded into the cineplex.
We'll see.

I really believe that Hugh's legacy as Wolverine will not be judged by his farewell movie in the role but by what he has brought to the whole franchise in his iconic portrayal. I have never read any negativity about how Hugh interpreted the role in all the 4 team movies, the 2 solo movies, and even the 2 cameos. The initial success of the franchise ( and to a great extent, even the continuing success) was squarely placed on Bryan Singer's and Hugh Jackman's involvement! In post-mortems about the disappointment over APOCALYPSE, part of the negativity was traced to the lack of a real presence of Wolverine! People may whine about having too much Wolverine, but when he is not around -- people ask for him. The comic book character is well-loved...and Hugh's own film portrayal enjoys equal regard! To the extent that a three-word cameo steals a whole movie!
For the final movie, what is most important will be the critical reception -- from film critics, from fans of the franchise, and from fans of Wolverine! Box office is a key factor for the longevity of the franchise ( which is going into a different direction) but that will be only one of the key qualities that will define Hugh's farewell portrayal. I would like Hugh to be remembered not because he generated $ and $ of box office success but because it is a portrayal that fully defines this most famous of mutants!
I am hoping that the cinematic vision and execution by Mangold and Jackman ( I do believe that Hugh had a very significant part in the development of the project and of course in its implementation) will be a critic- and crowd- pleaser! I hope they have also learned from the lessons from THE WOLVERINE and XMEN:APOCALYPSE where the focus on too much CGIs was rejected by a great number. If the farewell movie for Hugh delves deeper on the character of Logan/Wolverine and involves real and exciting action scenes ( not computer-generated), it will sit well with fanboys and non-fanboy audiences!
The Wolverine did fairly well at the box office. Worldwide receipts of $ 417 million (with a production budget of $ 120 million, marketing budget not available) were registered, with domestic grosses at $ 133 million and foreign grosses at $ 284 million. That is a multiple of 3.45 times the production budget, which may not be the true indicator of net profitability -- but it can used for comparison purposes. And if we include the domestic/USA sales ( foreign sales not available) for DVDs/BluRays of $ 78 million, that raises the multiple to 4.12 times.
What is interesting is that USA DVD/BluRay sales are very strong relative to theatrical sales ( 59% ratio) -- which means that fans in the USA liked the movie enough to buy the DVD/BluRay at this very high ratio! Why -- because it included a Director's Cut that was tantamount to almost an R-rating! So, the direction for WOLVERINE 3 may be in the right direction insofar as fanboy interest is concerned!
Also, based on the box office profile, it seems that the interest in XMEN movies in the overseas markets is even strengthening ( based on Box Office Mojo stats for foreign receipts)...and one of the disappointments with overseas fans with Apocalypse was that Logan/Wolverine was only featured as a cameo appearance. What is noteworthy about the overseas profile is that the good reception is well-distributed among key cities in Asia, Europe, and Central/South America. And we also have no stats for DVD sales for these areas.
The production budget for WOLVERINE 3 is only 5.8% higher at $ 127 million ( compared to The Wolverine). I am hoping that James Mangold and Hugh Jackman will do full justice to it!

The final installment of Hugh Jackman's "Wolverine" will be shooting in New Mexico. Under the working title "Juarez," the film begins principle photography this month and work will continue through August in the Albuquerque area, Abiquiu and Chama. The New Mexico Film Office says the production will employ about 130 New Mexico crew members, two New Mexico cast members and about 600 background talent. The feature is directed by James Mangold, who also directed "The Wolverine" in 2013. Producers include Hutch Parker and Simon Kinberg, both of whom also worked on "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Re the size of the budget for Wolverine 3 ( $ 127 million) -- here's a reply to the question raised on IMDB as to whether it is the highest one for an R-rated action movie.
I guess major action movies preceded by very strong interest ( because previous movies were blockbusters) would call for such a high price to make. Given the secrecy involved in WOLVERINE 3 -- it is hard to say what to expect from the movie -- I guess the publicity will come sometime soon, after they have completed filming and a first teaser or trailer will be unveiled?
From the set photos we have seen and some clues from casting calls and even the casting -- it is hard to say what the overall theme or subject will be. There have been three speculations that have been circulated ( Old Man Logan, Death of Wolverine, Weapon X) -- but it seems there is not one dominant theme derived from any of those guesses. There is even a hint that it could also involve cyborgs called Reavers ( a rumor leaked by one film site...although a casting call did indicate the "reaver" name and motor vehicles commissioned for the movie did suggest the reaver theme even further). Also, the inclusion of a young X-23 has been hinted (plus the set photo of Hugh with a young girl, also sporting bloodied knuckles like Hugh could be a hint of that identity)...Also, the picture of Prof Xavier, suggesting a frail old man, indicates that while Logan also looked much older, it could not have been from an Old Man Logan scene -- that storyline happened 50 years into the future and Prof Xavier would have been gone by that time? We also do not know if sound stage filming will be taking place -- presumably, because major action scenes are likely filmed that way?
Everybody's mum -- from James Mangold who has been posting cryptic replies to tweets ...to no word from Fox at all -- will they even show up at ComicCon ??

It looks like Irv is Executive Assistant again to Hugh, for this project -- check out Full Cast and Crew of Wolverine 3. Jess Platt is also designated as Dialect Coach.
Another interesting info from the list of the Full Cast and Crew -- why are there 3 people involved in casting actors from the UK or based in the UK? Are there Brits in the storyline ?

Is this tweet from Ryan Reynolds a hint that FOX will be at SDCC 2016 in San Diego?
If so, will Hugh be there to promote Wolverine 3 ??
Or, are they just promoting merchandise ( including DVD/BluRays) and other publicity materials?

A few years ago on a family trip we rode the Sandia Peak Tramway. It usually has very long lines--but the amazing view at the top is worth it. Props to Hugh for standing in line like anybody on vacation.
