At least a UK media site has debunked the "Is Hugh ill?" speculations -- and even featured Hugh's latest Instagram cheering on the Aussie Olympic Team

Such is the reaction to the innocuous (from Jackman's point of view) image, that fans and showbiz media alike have started to speculate on his health in quite a macabre way. There have even been some thoroughly unpleasant suggestions that the actor may have cancer or some other serious affliction.

The thing is, Jackman is an actor, and actors change their appearance all the fucking time. In his latest (and reportedly final) appearance as Wolverine in the presently untitled third movie as the scrap-happy mutant, he plays a much older version of the character - more akin to the 'Old Man Logan' incarnation in Marvel comics.

So the new 'gaunt, ill' look? That's almost definitely makeup and weight-loss to more closely resemble a centuries-old character. Thankfully, Hugh Jackman looks just fine...

The movie did get a lot of publicity mileage, albeit it was more of unpleasant speculations. Although it was pointed out that the social media responses carried the tone of concern for a much-loved actor. Today, I was surprised to see the same speculation on the Entertainment Section of one of our largest national newspapers *rolleyes*

With the dark cloak of secrecy ( sounds dramatic ) surrounding the project -- filmsites are left wondering about the real status and the real creative content (including the real film title) of the movie project. Now, a few film sites have started reporting that the film project may have already wrapped, under their very noses

I wonder if a few of these sites were granted access to the film set ... and they will eventually surprise us with detailed set visit reports?

Back in early May, filming began on 20th Century Fox's Wolverine 3, which has been confirmed to be Hugh Jackman's last movie as the title character, which will also be R-rated. While there is still very little known about the actual story, a few set photos surfaced during the production, which started in New Orleans before moving to New Mexico. Now it seems filming has wrapped, with star Hugh Jackman posting a fond farewell to the state.



While Hugh Jackman doesn't specifically say that filming has wrapped in his Twitter image, which features the actor overlooking some picturesque New Mexico scenery, he does say "Thank you New Mexico!" On Location Vacations has also confirmed that filming has wrapped, with the actor posting photos back in his native Australia just a few days after his goodbye image. Now that filming has wrapped, hopefully 20th Century Fox will finally start revealing any details about this mystery project, including the title.

Last week, Hugh Jackman made headlines with another photo, that appeared to tease his Old Man Logan look in this superhero adventure. While this story line has never been confirmed, it has long been rumored that this movie will follow the Old Man Logan comics, which feature Logan losing his mutant powers as he starts to finally age for the first time since getting his powers through the Weapon X program. 20th Century Fox has set a March 3, 2017 release date, so we'll have to wait and see when the first footage will surface.

Hugh Jackman is joined by longtime co-star Patrick Stewart as Professor X, along with Boyd Holbrook as the new villain, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant and Eriq La Salle, although no details were given for their characters. There have also been photos from the set featuring an unidentified young girl, who many believe is playing the popular Marvel Comics character X-23, a clone of Wolverine himself. The post credit sequence of X-Men: Apocalypse featured a mysterious character walking through the devastation at Alkali Lake, where he picks up a vial of blood marked "Wolverine." Many believe this vial will be used to create X-23, but that hasn't been confirmed.


James Mangold (The Wolverine) is directing from a script by David James Kelly and Michael Green. We'll have to wait and see when 20th Century Fox will finally unveil new details about this highly-anticipated superhero movie, so stay tuned for more details. It's been covered on mainstream and social media -- a simple Instagram post which was Hugh's regular way of connecting with fans!

But only one site was able to confirm that filming has really wrapped!

A Fox rep confirmed to Collider that principal photography has officially wrapped on Wolverine 3, so that means it’s time to prepare for the end of a legacy.

Hugh must be proud to be identified with a personal legacy in the world of filmmaking! Way to go, Bub!

Everything is very secretive about this project. No one even knows the title of the movie. Nobody has any clue about the plot. No one knows if the full cast has been revealed.

James Mangold has not officially said that it is a wrap. It was only Collider ( who seems to have strong connections with Fox) which was able to confirm officially that the film has wrapped.

I am guessing that maybe some special feature in the BluRay/DVD release may include such a clip of Mangold declaring that it is a wrap...and thanking Hugh in behalf of FOX for the legacy of 17 years! Or if we are luckier, maybe it might appear as a promo clip during the marketing period?

Hey Hugh.

It's us, the sideburns you wore while you played the character Wolverine. All the times you played Wolverine. To refresh your memory: When Wolverine 3 comes out next year, we'll have been together, the three of us, for 9 movies over the course of 17 years.

Seventeen years, Hugh. Do you know what anniversary that is? It's the furniture anniversary. We were gonna make you a footstool!


But then you went on Twitter on Monday, after you finished shooting Wolverine 3, and shaved us off. Just like that. Just ritually murdered us for the amusement of your 6.74 million followers.

So we imagine you're surprised to hear from us.

But you can't kill us, Hugh. Not really. We mutton chops — we're more than the follicles that make us up; we're a way of life. An attitude. An emotional state. We are eternal.

And we're here to tell you: we refuse to accept this. You owe us.

Oh sure, you were a working actor before we met. Your Curly in Oklahoma on the West End? Very impressive. We'll note here: Your character's name was Curly. Your hairstyle was essential to the character; it carried that performance.

Hunh. How about that.

Life patterns start early, I guess.

But then in 2000 you got the part of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's X-Men, replacing Dougray Scott, the man whose two names are three names.

Let's face it; casting you was a stretch. Wolverine, in the comics, is 5'3". You're a full foot taller. He's Canadian, you're Australian. And yeah, you bulked up for the part, but the Wolverine of the comics is a compact ball o' muscle, and you, Hugh, even at your most burly, retain a certain stubborn ranginess.

So. Go ahead, tell yourself it was your performance that sold audiences on your Wolverine. But we know the truth. It was us. It was always us.

That's because, qua coiffures, mutton chops signify something very specific: chaos and control in perfect balance. Facial hair allowed to grow thick and bushy — pure untrammeled virility! — but only within rigid parameters. The cheeks, not the chin.

Business in the front, party on the sides.

Historically, we are worn by men who channel their aggression into proscribed outlets — military men like General Ambrose Burnside, and, um, Colonel Mustard.

Wolverine is a character trained to be a weapon — a superhero whose superpower is the disemboweling of others. To be a hero, and to live among them, he must mediate his propensity for violence, he must keep his bloodlust throttled.

And all of that backstory? Is sitting on his cheekbones.

Yeah. You're welcome.

You sure seem glad to be rid of us. You tell everyone who'll listen how much your wife always hated us, which we'll be honest: hurtful.

But that's fine, because we're not going anywhere, Hugh. We'll always be here, just underneath the surface of your skin.

Waiting.

And we're not alone. That ridiculous bushy hobo number you sported as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables is here with us, too. And that wildly unfortunate Van Dyke from your turn as Blackbeard in Pan.

So on nights when you're drifting off to sleep, you're beloved, us-hating wife in your arms, you may catch, just at the edge of hearing, our united voices raised in defiance.

We're here.

We're beard.

Get used to it.

That's ... that's what we've come up with for now, but we're ... I mean we're still workshopping it, obviously.

What Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Run Ending Means for the 'X-Men' Universe

The actor has been teasing his upcoming goodbye in next year's third 'Wolverine' film.




It's been the best of times (X2: X-Men United) and the worst of times (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but through it all, it's been Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Over the past week, the actor has been sharing photos signifying the end of his run as the character, which began with his casting in 1999 and is set to conclude with one last movie, next year's third Wolverine film. In a video posted to Instagram Monday, Jackman shaved off his trademark Wolverine facial hair. Last week, he shared a photo of him surveying the landscape of New Mexico, where he recently wrapped shooting.

Jackman's exit leaves a lot of questions for the future of Fox's X-Men movieverse.


CAN THE ROLE BE RECAST?

The notion that some roles can't be recast has been disproved time and time again. However … this one genuinely does feel different than the others. Heath Ledger, whose Joker is the finest comic book movie performance of all time, played the role for one movie. Batman, like James Bond, is constantly passing the torch. But Jackman is the only big screen version of Wolverine — and has been since the dawn of the modern age of superhero movies with 2000's X-Men. The only corollary might be if one day the Marvel Cinematic Universe recasts Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.

It's hard to imagine Fox will sideline Wolverine for too long. It's possible X-23, the female Wolverine of the comics, could come into play. Fans have also offered up Tom Hardy as a possible replacement, and Jackman has even given his blessing to this notion. Hardy has comic book cred, having played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and he was signed on for Suicide Squad before dropping out. The guy has comic book cred and interests. It will take someone fans can embrace — whether a favorite like Hardy or an unknown with potential — to make a recasting work.


CAN DEADPOOL TAKE OVER?

Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool-hysteria swept the world in 2016, and it seemed that perhaps Fox had found the answer to its "shared universe" problem by finding someone who could replace Jackman as the guy to connect it all together. Ironically, Deadpool is the only X-Men movie not to feature Jackman's Wolverine (though Jackman's People magazine cover was used). As crowd pleasing as Deadpool is, there are some major challenges to making him the connective tissue to the universe — namely that he exists to mock said universe and comic book cliches. ("These timelines are so confusing," he remarks after asking if his version of Professor X was James McAvoy or Patrick Stewart.)


WHAT ABOUT THOSE NEW X-MEN?

X-Men: Apocalypse attempted to lay the groundwork for a post-Jackman world by introducing a young team of mutants, including Jean (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Meanwhile, director Josh Boone is prepping a New Mutants, which producer Simon Kinberg has said will take place in the '90s. The X-Men: First Class cast has indicated a willingness to reprise their roles. So perhaps there are enough irons in the fire where something will stick and Fox can feel confident marketing a new movie without a Wolverine presence.



BUT COME ON … IS JACKMAN REALLY DONE?

In comic books and blockbusters, never say never. Patrick Stewart (Professor X) already has had multiple goodbyes, first in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) then in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and again in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now he's back again for the third Wolverine film. Perhaps Jackman could pop up again. It'd likely make the role more appealing if he could skip the shirtless scenes along with all that working out and eating of chickens.

Then again, Jackman really does sound like he's done. He began his farewell tour at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, where a surprisingly emotional video debuted showing footage of director Bryan Singer offering a shocked-looking Jackman the part of Wolverine back in 1999. It would go on to be the actor's U.S. film debut, and also define his career, with him donning the trademark mutton chops for nine movies (counting cameos and the upcoming third Wolverine film.)

"I never knew more in my life I had not got a job than in that audition," Jackman told the Hall H crowd, noting that Singer seemed incredibly uninterested during the reading. Fortunately for all of us, Jackman was wrong.

Jackman's final Wolverine is set for March 3, 2017.

With all this free publicity...and the movie is still to be released down the road ( 6 months and some change) --

FOX marketing and distribution units must be very excited to get all this media ( mainstream and social) exposure! Even the shaving of the mutton chops has become a cause celebre, maybe it started as an innocent Instagram Hugh msg to fans about the moment, as he has done when he has a new look for a film ( e.g., the starved Valjean, the infamous bald pate of Blackbeard, a photo with his makeup artists...and even the fitness buildups to a forthcoming XMen movie), not realizing fans would seize on it as a sad symbol of the departure of a long-time pop culture icon.

Someone wrote not so long ago, that there will be a parade of farewells that will accompany Hugh's ONE LAST TIME movie...and it has become less of wishful thoughts but a true pop culture phenomenon!

How will the movie fare at the box office??


Fox Marketing, if they are shrewd enough, should include the fan sentiments ( and how they themselves made the Jackman Wolverine character become a firm film favorite worldwide!) when Hugh does his final walk on the runway!
